A (Surprise) Familiar Location

  • 5 of 5

We secured this rental not realizing it's actual location, as the roads now have names; we knew them 28 years ago as only County road numbers. In addition, we knew this area as Laurel Fork back in the day, (listed as Dugspur).

We arrived delighted to learn that this cabin is situated 100 feet from property my parents owned, where we spent many happy times with them and our young sons. What a joy for us as empty-nesters, to return to our old stomping ground!!!

An incredible transformation from a cement hunting lodge to the immaculate, modern log cabin that overlooks the river, it was everything that it claims: Clean and fresh smelling, comfortable, had all conveniences, and so cozy...a perfect getaway cabin. And still quite secluded after all these years.

Upon arrival, we were greeted with a large fresh bouquet of pink and white roses in a vase. My favorite flowers!

We fished the stream and caught over a dozen, but all were released. Loved the hot tub under the stars in the evenings, and we cooked our meals on the gas grill every day with ease.

Walked for miles on the old path along the river, and visited cherished places such as the 'little falls' and the 'stair-step falls'. From the cabin, we were soothed by the familiar sound of the rushing river, the birds singing, and we watched bunnies nibble about, every morning.

We're thankful to have met Bob, the caretaker, and spent time chatting with him when we arrived. We also had the pleasure to meet the couple who purchased our old property. We will certainly be returning to spend more time at this cabin, or even perhaps the larger one to accommodate more family members.

Great stay at the cabin!

  • 5 of 5

I had a wonderful stay at the cabin with my wife and 3 young children. There was plenty of room for us with my sons on the pull out sofa bed and my daughter in a pack and play on the floor of the bedroom. The cabin is a short drive from Floyd, the Mabry Mill and plenty of hiking trails. My sons had a blast fishing just downstream of the little bridge on the nearby stream, and it's close enough that we could watch them from the deck.

Beautiful mountain getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

Truly picture perfect experience! Nice secluded getaway from the rush of every day life. Not far from the Blue Ridge parkway where we enjoyed breakfast at Mabry Mill! Also, enjoyed visiting the winery! Then back to our "sweet" cabin and wonderful hot tub! We will definitely be back to get away from it ALL!!

Tranquility at it's best

  • 5 of 5

This is our 2nd visit to the cabin from Northern Virginia, Quantico area. We absolutley love coming here. We have been out on the deck enjoying the sound of the creek, the beautiful star lit nights, and the simple fresh air. Having the hot tub to relax in, with a drink or two, was a perfect end to a day of riding our Harleys on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This time around, we actually had the pleasure of meeting a momma black bear and her three cubs. This was my husbands first time seeing wild bears, and although I lived in Alaska (Glacier Bay National Park) , I have been back in Virginia for 8 years and it was so nice to see these beautiful creatures again.

Thank you for a wonderful stay, and we hope to come back again next year.

If you love the outdoors and nature, this is the place for you. We only stayed for the weekend, but I wish it was longer. We started the day with drinking coffee out on the deck and listening to the running water and bird singing. It was so peaceful. We spent the day fishing and hiking. We ended the day with a camp fire and then relaxing in the hot tub. This cabin had everything and more. I would recommend it to anyone. Thank you Bob for bringing the firewood and going over a few things we needed to know.

A little Piece of Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

This cozy little cabin is heavenly! It’s perfectly located right on this magnificent trout stream with a delightful waterfall. You can see and hear the water right from the cabin and the beautiful large deck with the hot tub!

The view from the deck is breath taking; a beautiful portrait of nature like no other! The combination of the mountain trees, stream and waterfall is truly a feast for the eyes! Everything about the deck is perfect; the chaise longues, the lunch/dinner table with the high chairs, the grill and of course the HOT TUB that overlooks the amazing view!

The bedroom was spacious with plenty of drawers and a big wardrobe. The bed had a beautiful cover with flowers that matched those on the tub curtain. The bathroom had the perfect light and heating system. There was even shower gel and shampoo, which was a nice touch, we had actually forgotten our shower gel. The kitchen had all the needed utensils for cooking and grilling as well as a lighting system that you could brighten or dim as needed.

Bob the property manager couldn’t have been more supportive or friendly, he answered all our questions before and during our stay. The hot tub was so fresh, clean and hot when we arrived. When we asked him about fishing, he gladly helped even though he wasn’t into fishing and he confirmed a tip that George the owner had given other guests before regarding using a spinner in the turbulent water right after the waterfall and guess what?! They must have been around 16 trout that we caught! We lost count at some point. We got some on the spinner in the turbulent water and we even got some on night crawlers right after the waterfall but a bit further away from the turbulent water. And as another reviewer mentioned we did see the huge crayfish, we actually reeled in TWO holding onto a night crawler!

We also asked Bob where we could go walking and he recommended a walk over the cement bridge and the wooden bridge. Both walks were amazing, the one after the wooden bridge was mystical and the one after the cement bridge was just heavenly with colorful houses on the left and the water stream on the right. There were lots of beautiful trees, butterflies and we saw a deer 3 times! one literally leaped 5 yards away from us while coming back from drinking from the stream.

We had the most amazing time, thank you George and Linda for sharing and special thanks to Bob for all your support.
