The Cape, with its bold ocean views, offers the Atlantic at your door. Expansive windows and a deck perched on the hillside offer a look out to two lighthouses and and a scattering of islands on the horizon or watch the lobster boats putt by in the morning on their way out to haul traps. Walk across the lush lawn to a sandy beach with water at all times. Relax on the deck and watch the gulls, osprey or an occasional eagle hover above & dive for fish. Look down to the lovely cove from your bedroom window or search for sea glass while strolling on the beach. Fish from the beach or rocks for striped bass or mackerel for dinner. The house is decorated in cottage style with comfortable furnishings. A mooring is available with the cottage for you to moor your small to medium sized boat. A stay at The Cape will be the highlight of your vacation. As Maine author Rachel Field said, 'Once you have slept on an island, you'll never be quite the same...'
Our stay was better than we could have expected since we had never been to Maine. The cottage was quaint, clean, equipped with all our needs. The owners were very helpful with information of nearby attractions & we LOVE that they are DOG FRIENDLY! We will book again next year hoping to come in July when it is a little warmer so we can swim at the most peaceful, beautiful beach ever. Walking the beach each morning with my coffee looking for shells and sea glass was exactly what I needed. Thank you for this perfect location to unwind. We wish we owned a cottage just like this.
We had the most amazing week at Sea Spray! The most important thing to understand about this cottage is that the location is absolutely astounding. You are literally perched at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, and there are sweeping views from every single room in the house. And to top it off, a gorgeous sandy beach is just steps away from the house!
I was looking at the site to try to book the cottage for the same week next year, and I noticed the most recent review and felt like I just had to write one of my own. My family of five took showers, we used the water for cooking and general purpose and had no problems at all. We definitely didn't drink it, as the property manager recommended that we use the bottled water for drinking. As for the cleanliness and general state of the cottage we didn't have a single issue the week we were there. The house is definitely an older cottage, but to us, at least, that's part of the charm. I would recommend Sea Spray to anyone looking for an authentic Maine coast vacation. We're definitely booking it again!
This was our 18th year in Georgetown. My kids were babies when we started coming Fourth of July week. At one point, we came for 2 weeks. I was showing a friend the place when I saw the last review.
I have to say I was a bit shocked by it. 99% of the review should be about the view. I mean you can see the ocean from the toilet! Yes, the water is awful but you only use it for toilet and shower. If you were told to bring your own water, then, maybe this person will never be satisfied.
For all the years I have visited, there have been few issues. Any problems, ie: microwave and grille broken....were taken care of immediately. Someone in the family was always available.
This place is panoramic, majestic. Early mornings, seals come in. Rent canoes and kayaks and they will bring you to wonderful places.
Should it rain...say in, open a book, and enjoy the views!
#1). The view - As stated, the view from the cottage is very nice & unobstructed, quite exceptional really - the many large windows offer good harbor and open ocean views from both the downstairs living room and upstairs bedroom.
#2). The people - Everyone we worked with during the rental process was helpful, friendly and seemed genuinely interested in providing good customer service during our stay.
#3). The linens - The furnished linens were clean, comfortable and in good condition. However, there were a few serious issues that need to be addressed.
#1). The water - Though we were told that the cottage's water supply is not considered potable and that we would need to provide our own bottled water, we were not prepared for just how bad it was - it's disgusting, there's no other way to describe it. The water is simply not fit for human contact by any commonly accepted sanitation standard. It has a distinct off odor of rotten eggs, has a light brownish-tan color and appears only suitable for flushing the toilet.
#2). Property cleanliness - Besides the condition of the water, this is the other main area which contributed to the low rating. There were many areas in the cottage that required basic cleaning, such as: the kitchen floor (should be washed at least once a year); the kitchen cabinets; the living room windows (note that removing the film would enhance the magnificent view of the surf); dishes, glasses and silverware (note that we had to take all the silverware out of the drawer and wash the drawer compartment to avoid cross contamination with some unknown material in the drawer).
#3). Overall property condition - The cottage's interior walls, doors, windows, trim, lighting and plumbing fixtures are outdated and in many cases, in need of replacement and/or refurbishing. Though quaint, at the price of this rental, you expect higher quality/newer interior components. For example, getting in and out of the bathroom was a challenge due to the door sticking against the jamb. There were several places where extension cords distributed power to multiple devices, electrical outlet switch plates with open holes (code violation?), lights that operated erratically, etc.
In summary, this could be a very nice cottage if some simple updates & more stringent cleaning schedules were adopted. Would we stay there again? No.
I rented this house for one week in Aug. It was my first time visiting Georgetown and will not be my last. I enjoyed this house with a friend, dog, and two nieces. It was perfect!! The location is very quiet and has a private small beach. The house is equip with all of the comforts of home. It is located at the end of a private street and is the last house so the view from the deck is amazing! The bedroom with the queen size bed has two large windows which is great for watching the sunrise. Every room is wrapped in large windows so the breeze and ocean views can be enjoyed throughout the house. Prudence was a pleasure to work with, always available, and very friendly. We hope to return again.
We stayed at Sea Spray last summer and have just booked our vacation for this year. Our family had an amazing vacation. The children enjoyed meeting new friends on the beach, we enjoyed breathtaking views, coffee on the deck, cooking in the large kitchen, and exploring the area (lot’s to do with parks, kayaking, restaurants, and museums!). The house was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. The ocean is right outside of every window and the sounds of the waves are so relaxing! We will definitely be making this a summer tradition!
