About The Owner

I have lived between Boston and Vermont for years and love my time in the Green Mountains. I have raised my four children in this valley and can recommend plenty of fun activities in the woods or in town for children or adults.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2004

Why The Owner chose Sandgate

Our little valley is a hidden treasure. It is quiet and serene with plenty of woods and streams to explore. There are towns with lots of activities for all four season nearby, great for having a blast and coming home to cook a big meal in the fully equipped kitchen. This cabin is perfect for a romantic getaway as well as for a large party looking to have fun for the weekend.

What makes this cabin unique

The activities are endless! Hiking, swimming, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, golfing, walking, biking, shopping, etc. There is a small local movie theater to get that local feel as well as several playhouses in the area. If you're feeling like staying in, you can kick back on the large porches with a cocktail and start the grill.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for sharing your wonderful cabin with us. Relaxing in Vermont was a perfect vacation, and the cabin was ideal for our family. We enjoyed great walks, swimming, and bridge jumping in the river, reading on the porch, trips to Manchester, and the adventure park at Bromley. Your delicious maple syrup brings back memories of our fantastic family vacation.

Many thanks for making us feel at home in Vermont...and for all the great tips you gave us prior to our arrival!

Enjoy the rest of your summer and the glorious fall colors that will arrive all too quickly.

The cabin is located on a quiet dirt road which meanders through a valley featuring cornfields, horse pastures and apple orchards, with 2300' peaks on either side of the valley. Ideally situated for those who like to get away from it all, there are numerous trails for hiking in the area. Our road is part of a loop, ideal for long distance bicycling trips, but is equally perfect for long walks. Or, if you simply want a break, just sit back, read and/or play games all day, then enjoy a wonderful meal, either staying in (the kitchen has plenty of work space and is well stocked) or going out (the area has numerous restaurants to chose from). Area activities, within a half hour +/-, include skiing, golf, fly fishing, theater, concerts, ice skating, shopping (antique, outlet, art, crafts & more), plus numerous historic destinations. Manchester & Bennington, VT are 30 mins away, Dorset, VT & Saratoga, NY are about 40-45 mins away.

Gorgeous, Secluded, and Memorable

  • 5 of 5

Friends and I spent 3 nights at this property and enjoyed it tremendously. Pictures really don't do this home justice; 10 of us were very comfortable in the 3 bedroom house, and the wrap-around porch was ideal for chilling out, barbequeing, and watching the sun set over the horizon.

We were especially impressed with the large, well-equipped kitchen and pine-lined bedrooms. The owner provided a comprehensive guidebook and numerous maps to area activities, and we enjoyed river tubing, hiking, and quarry swimming within 30 minutes of the property.

This home is very secluded, which was perfect. We were undisturbed by neighbors, traffic, or other interference. I've already referred friends to this listing, and look forward to returning in the future.
