If you want high-end perks and plush amenities, this isn't for you. But if you want lots of space, privacy and comfort you can't beat this place. 6 dads stayed here last October for a 3 day golf excursion to Western Mass and it was exactly what we wanted - a comfortable place to hang out at night without feeling cramped or crowded. Our only regret was that we weren't at the house enough during the days to take advantage of the huge yard and the pond.
Dan (the owner) was a great host - since we had no issue with the house we never saw him, but he was very responsive to all our questions and easy to deal with, and even set us up at the golf course he owns nearby.
We definitely plan on returning this year.
This large old house provided plenty of room for ten members of our family (four generations) to spend quality vacation time together. Whether rocking on the porch swing, slugging around on the living room couches, or spending long relaxing meals at the dining room table, there was never a sense of being too crowded. The property has an extensive backyard with apple trees and some picnic tables for enjoying the outdoors, and the private access to the pond and use of the canoe and rowboat was a real treat. Boating on the pond was enhanced by the fact that the pond is undeveloped and there were no other people around--just us and nature. Another thing--the outdoor fire pit was a wonderful experience, too. We built a fire on several nights and enjoyed roasting marshmallows and making 'smores under the stars.
The house and property were all exactly as advertised--much to our surprise and delight. The place is well-maintained, and was clean upon our arrival. (We made sure to return it to that condition before leaving). Although there is an air hockey table and foosball table, we spent most of our time outdoors or on the porch (barbecuing). If the weather had forced us indoors more often, we might have taken advantage of those perks.
We would definitely recommend this rental to others--it's close to all of the action in the Berkshires, yet a perfect hideaway for those who want to get back to nature and relax. And there are lots of local establishments where you can get farm-fresh ingredients for your dining pleasure. (We had fresh-picked corn-on-the-cob nearly every night!)
We came here for a family get-together (3 generations). This property is great for this kind of thing. Plenty of space inside and out allows everyone to enjoy without getting in each others' faces. Babies, toddlers, and older people can all enjoy wading and swimming at the sandy beach. We also toured the lake several times in the canoe that is provided. We even discovered a beaver dam and one day our canoe was tracked by two otters. Everything you need (except bedsheets and towels) to keep house and entertain yourselves is there. The worse thing we can say is that we couldn't find a potato peeler.
This house was perfect for our group which ranged from teenagers to 80+. The first floor bedroom and bathroom was perfect for the senior member of the party.
The grand kids had a great time on the lake fishing, canoeing, and seeing beavers and other wildlife.
The grounds behind the house that edge the lake are beautiful and well kept, and the firepit was a great hit with old and young.
We were close enough to points of interest to make day trips, but at the end of the day, had a cozy, homey place to return to.
It was very clean, and the internet service was good.
I would definatley come back.
In addition to 2010, we stayed again in Sept. 2011 are are soon to plan for 2012! The setting is great, house very neat tidy - the only thing they can't do for you is ensure great weather. The rooms are better suited for couples/families as opposed to 10 guys, but we got by nicely (otherwise 5 star). Owner added large flat screen TV in 2011, but you will likely want to be outside. We had a great fire each night and enjoyed the sky and camaraderie. Also, had better use of the lake in '11 and it was beautiful w/ lots of little coves to paddle into where streams flow into the lake, so bring your gear if you'll be more than the provided canoe can hold. Trust me, you won't want to leave-we didn't!
We had a wonderful week at this rental. Three generations went and the place is so big that we could be alone or all together. Everything we needed was there. The pond was fun. There is a chalk drawing of the farm house by Dan from 3 years ago- good job!!! Make sure you read the beams in the living room. We did not sight- see, just enjoyed the quiet. Owner answers any questions. Would go again!!! ..................Karen
