Peaceful one bedroom lodge close to shops and transport.
'Hare House' is a beautiful luxury wooden Lodge, set in two acres of an English garden; the River Nadder flows through the garden and there are beautiful views of the countryside and the Italianate church of Wilton. Designed in 2014 by the owner Sara, to be a calming and peaceful space, it offers the perfect base for a couple or individual seeking the quiet of the countryside, together with the many amenities of the small town of Wilton, the ancient capital of Wessex, just a few minutes walk away. Only 3 miles from Salisbury, it is also a good base to explore Stonehenge, the New Forest, Southampton, Bath and Dorset. Wilton has a good range of shops including a bakery and supermarket, together with pubs and cafes for meals. It is home to the Earl of Pembroke who lives in Wilton House, which has been used as the setting for many films, including Pride and Prejudice, and which is open to the public.
Hare House is a self-contained Lodge, adjacent to our home. It has a well equipped separate kitchen; luxury bathroom with bath and shower; and a super Kingside bed which can be separated into two full-size single beds if required. The sitting area has a lovely Swedish log burner which provides warmth in the cooler days and evenings. The Lodge is very well insulated and always feels very warm and cosy.
We appreciate how important a comfortable bed and offer a choice of pillows, Egyptian cotton sheets, together with fluffy white towels and luxurious toiletries.
Your Welcome Pack will have everything you need to get you started for breakfast, and will include homemade cake and jam, bread, milk, juice, butter, muesli and granola and a variety of teas and coffee. Freshly laid eggs are usually available when our hens are behaving themselves!
The River Nadder which flows through our garden is renowned for its trout fishing; our section of the river also has a variety of specimen fish. If you are interested in fishing during your stay, please ask us for more information.
We are surrounded by beautiful countryside and there are many wonderful walks through the Chalke Valley and beyond. We have many walking guides of the immediate area and the New Forest and can offer advice on walking routes.

About Sara Hunter
I love meeting people which is why I decided to join Homeway as a host in September 2015. I also know how important it is have privacy when you are travelling - my husband John and I travel widely and we love it when we can find somewhere which offers the perfect balance of leaving us alone to get on with our holiday, but being on hand to offer local knowledge and advice - ideally over a cold beer! I hope we can achieve this with our guests. We have sheep and chickens and I have rebuilt the raised veg beds and ordered the greenhouse so I can start growing my own seeds for the year's crop. Our guests are welcome to roam free in the garden and on our island over the river. John and I look forward to meeting you and sharing a special part of Wiltshire with you.
Sara Hunter purchased this Cabin in 2003

Exceptional. Peaceful restful and relaxing
What can I say.
Hare House is the perfect place for a get away and to do whatever you want.
Lovely scenery and wildlife right outside the picture windows and inside is all you could ever wish for.
Decor, furnishings and furniture all to the highest standards and that bed... wow. Just sink into it and get thoroughly lost.
Sara and John are the perfect hosts, giving you time and space and are always at hand if needed.
Lovely touches of fresh bread, jam and cake to welcome you.
Everything in the kitchen ready for you to grab a snack and drink on arrival.
There are a selection of local eateries which are very nice and highlighted in the welcome pack just inside the door, which is a very nice and handy pack explaining everything you need to know about your surroundings.
There is a big selection of reading and viewing material available to suit all tastes if required, but I must admit just sitting on the sofa, log burner going, looking out over the garden, river, fields and wildlife with cup of tea in hand was a luxury you can’t seem to manage in normal life..
Many places to visit within a short distance, and bus routes, park and ride etc very close so you don’t need the car!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay even with typical January weather.
The only problem... it is so nice it may be hard to get a booking again!! 😳
But we will try..
Thanks Sara and John for allowing us to share your home.
Thank you for your very kind words. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay - despite the January rain! And we very much hope to see you again soon. Sara and John.
Setting is like something out of a story book!
We have stayed at VRBO is the US, Mexico and Netherlands and Hare House is by far the best! You can't get better hosts. Extremely comfortable and everything you need is there. Besides the extras like fresh bread, jam and eggs. Location is great! View is beautiful and so peaceful just perfect for a holiday. I can't say enough good things!
A gem in Wiltshire
We had a very relaxing break at the Hare house. Thoroughly enjoyed the warmth of the log burner. The Hare house kitchen is well equipped. It has a cooking range and plenty of utensils allowing you to cook a proper meal. However it’s just minutes away from local pubs like the greyhound and Pembroke arms. The lounge is cozy and delightfully decorated. We will definitely revisit Wilton just to spend time at the Hare House. Thanks John and Sara for being such lovely hosts.

A gem tucked away in a quiet location...
The property is tucked away on a private road in wilton. It's close to the town centre but ever so quiet and it feels like you are in the countryside with views of green fields and a lovely running river. The cottage is very clean and decorated to the highest standard. The extra touches of flowers, fresh bread, jam upon arrival was welcomed along with all the extra touches in the kitchen. Would definitely like to come back and the property comes highly recommended.
Thank you for your kind words; it was lovely to meet you both and I hope to see you again - perhaps we can share a glass of wine on the jetty in warmer weather!
Relaxing, lovely views. The little extras provided were very thoughtful. We would recommend to friends.
A little slice of heaven
I can’t speak highly enough of Sara’s hospitality or the lodge itself. After being 7 hours delayed, we arrived tired and weary, but found a warm home with cake on the side, plenty of tea and a fire ready to be lit.
Everything you could possibly want and more.
The lake makes a wonderful sound as it ripples at the bottom of the garden, and the birds in the morning feel like you’re in a fairy tale.
The walks are great (books are so helpful and everything you could need in the handbook).
The extra special kindness shown by letting us stay later to miss the traffic home was so thoughtful and meant driving home was so much faster. That kindness was really extra special of Sara. Anyone who stays will fall for this magical place. We will be back x
Thank you very much for your lovely review; we are so pleased that you found the peace and relaxation you were seeking at Hare House, and look forward very much to welcoming you back!
15 min drive to Stonehenge. 30 Minutes from the New Forest. One hour from Bath. 10 mins drive to Salisbury. Salisbury railways station is 10 minutes drive and links to London, Bath, Southampton. Beautiful country walks in local area including pubs.
