Around East Grinstead
High Weald Cottage is just a mile from the centre of East Grinstead. From here you can catch a train on the Bluebell Railway down to Sheffield Park, or a mainline train (sadly not steam hauled) up to London. Close to East Grinstead there are various National Trust properties to visit. Wakehurst Place is open all year round, and is used by Kew Gardens as its country property and home of the Millennium Seed Bank. Standen is also nearby, and is famous for its links with members of the Arts and Crafts Movement such as Philip Webb and William Morris. A twenty minute drive brings you to Nymans Garden in Handcross, as well as High Beeches.
To the east lies the Ashdown Forest, well know to fans of Winnie the Pooh as The Hundred Acre Wood. The bridge where Pooh and Piglet played Pooh Sticks is on the edge of the Forest.
