Books, DVDs, puzzles, and games are at your disposal. Each bedroom has its own TV/DVD. This quiet cabin is 45 minutes north of Bangor, ME between Lincoln and Lee.
Like to hike? Like to ride your four-wheeler? Like to just sit and drink blueberry coffee and do nothing?! This is the place to do it! Lots of trails right behind the house. Canoeing is a good option also. Bring your best four-legged friend and hang out at the Lake!
In the area: Also in the area are restaurants in Lincoln and Lee, with a hospital with ER in Lincoln only 9 miles away. In Lincoln also are a WalMart and Hannaford grocery. Plenty of gift shops and antique shops are in the area as well has horseback riding.
For those in a gambling mood Bangor has a casino. And Bangor is also the home of Stephen King! Perhaps you will pass him on the street!
James bought the house as a retirement home. BUT he knew that retirement was a long way in the future so he outfitted it like he would like to see it and decided to rent it out so others could enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of Maine.
When we met he said he would never be able to see Maine again...as he had lived there as a young man and went to school for college there. This proves him wrong!!
Matilda Jamison purchased this cabin in 2005
We looked at homes in Vermont and New Hampshire because we thought Maine was totally out of the price range. But Maine is where we both wanted to be. He found this one on his own and I got to pick between two. This one is the winner!
Quiet, quiet, quiet!! Not in a subdivision! Lake to look out at one side and woods the other. My kind of living!
We just returned from our 2 week vacation and I must say this cabin has got to be the most comfortable place we've stayed at. Not one detail was forgotten (master bed was so comfortable!!). A few of our favorite moments: sitting on the deck and staring at the water for hours, the day Hurricane Daniel rolled in and we were all snuggled watching movies, playing a vicious game of Uno with friends for hours, listening to the loons all day, watching a bald eagle as he was perched in a pine tree on the property.....the list goes on. The neighbors were terrific and didn't mind Jett, our nosey black lab, peeking in their homes. So if you're looking for the comforts of your own home, but also want the 'cabinish' feel - this is the place. Thank you James & Tillie for sharing your home with us. We hope to make it back again soon.
Firstly, the house was one of the most outfitted VRBO homes we have ever stayed and we have stayed in many. Loved the openness floor plan. The house was very clean. Brightness of the lighting was questionable but may have been adequate if the weather was brighter. Great waterfront location with assets (canoe and paddleboat) available to us. Unfortunately, it was cool and rainy and could not take advantage of it.
The only issue with the reservation was the misinformation provided in the listing; specifically, the queen bed on the main level and the TV. What is not said is that the bed is a baffle-less water bed. My wife and I tried to sleep on it the first night without success. Each time one rolled over or got out, the resultant wave woke the other. To get some sleep the second night, my wife slept upstairs and I slept on the waterbed as I get up in the night to use the bathroom and didn't want to risk the stairs in the dark. Also, it lists as having a TV. That is true, however, what is not told is that there are no channels available.
This is a perfect house for a getaway. Quiet, on a beautiful lake with a canoe to use. We will come back again.
We spent three nights, four days at Silver Lake Cabin. The Cabin was clean and spacious with a lovely view of the lake. The weather was wonderfully warm and we were able to use the canoe and paddle boat and swim a few times a day.
We found it suited our needs as a family gathering place with a few exceptions. One major problem was that we did not know one bed was a water bed (no one knew what "soft sided" meant) and we would not have chosen this property had we known. Also we found the cabin to be cluttered with too many knick-knacks. The basement was very damp and the smell from it permeated the upstairs.
This property had everything they promised. When we arrived the house was open and ready for us. Most of our time was spent on the back deck with the dogs enjoying to view and listening to the Loons. The property was clean with plenty of towels, cooking utensils, dishes and lots of ice clod mugs in the freezer. I recommend this property to anyone traveling with their canine best friend. Skip the Walmart and Hannaford for groceries and go straight to Steak and Stuff, great steaks, deli, produce and any thing else you need at great prices.
The house was very clean. Everything you could want or need was there. James and Tillie thought of everything for their guests. The view was incredible. Every morning we enjoyed our coffee on the deck looking out at the water. Just what we were looking for. Very quiet peaceful and relaxing. Would love to go back next year .
Lee and Silver Lake in Maine are 45 minutes from Bangor, two hours from Acadia State Park and Bar Harbor, and a very short drive to Baxter State Park home of Mt. Katahdin. There are snowmobile trails behind the house and plenty to see in both Bangor and Bar Harbor and in between. In the winter the cabin is about 3 miles from a ski slope for $20/day and in the summer just a couple more miles to the beach outside of Lee. If you like boating you may bring your own to put in at Lee and dock at the cabin or take the canoe for a tool about the lake and surrounding areas. Or perhaps a day trip to Canada which is only an hour away.
