Having always loved the outdoors and everything the beautiful Lake District has to offer, we fell in love and chose Cartmel for a number of reasons. It really is a picture postcard English village and this 'thimble full of diamonds' whilst still steeped in history has become a fantastic foodie destination and whilst a great destination in its own right is superbly placed for exploring all of a The Lakes. Then there are the race days on what has been described as the prettiest racetrack in the UK. When we first stumbled on Maggie Puddle, we instantly fell in love with it. Two cute, cosy cottages that have been sympathetically restored and we hope you agree offer a real 'home from home.' We live locally and are on hand for any questions you may have at any point during your stay.
Harriet Morris purchased this cottage in 2015

Awesome hotel style bedding
We stayed at "The Nest" at Maggie Puddle Cottage in Cartmel and this was the perfect base for a couple to explore the local area. The Nest is clean, tidy and beautifully maintained and on arrival we found that the owners had provided a welcome pack which included, flowers, a bottle of prosecco and a couple of home made almond slices, which was a lovely touch and very welcome. It's only a short walk, approx. 100 metres to the nearest pub, "The Pig and Whistle" and only another 2 minute walk from there in to the beautiful village of Cartmel where you will find Cartmel's famous Priory, numerous shops, one of which Hales sells a variety of excellent ice creams, but the vanilla in my opinion is the best. You can take some time to sit and relax and sample some of the finest local cheeses, pies, fine wines, bread and beer from the micro brewery situated in Unsworth Yard. Or you could try one of a number of the busy pubs in the village that all serve food throughout the day and evenings. We had a particularly good time at The Cavendish Arms, where the food was really good, served in a relaxed atmosphere and they also have a large selection of gins just waiting to be experienced.
There are a number of good local walks to be taken, all varying in length and difficulty depending on your preference.
And after a day of walking, eating and the odd drink or two you can head back to the comfort of "The Nest" for a great nights sleep before it all starts again in the morning. Just a really lovely place to stay.
Our stay in Cartmel was enhanced by the clean, neat and modern styling in this cottage. The cottage was perfect with a good sized bathroom/shower. Ideally located to visit the southern lake areas,we used it as a base for Windemere & Morcombe bay. The village itself is a treasure and every one was friendly and helpful. I have recommended it to all my friends.
The Nest is a small, but beautifully presented and well equipped property close to many amenities. Its location and the comfort it offered made our visit to the Lake District an extremely enjoyable and memorable few days.
More than happy to recommend The Nest to anyone.
The Nest is perfect for a couple; cosy, comfortable, centrally located, and immaculately presented upon arrival. Harriet was most helpful before and after our visit too.
Cartmel is a beautiful and friendly village with good access to other parts of the lakes; we hope to return one day and will certainly stay at Maggie Puddle again!
