Charming Peak District farmhouse with welcoming hosts

  • 5 of 5

We spent 7 nights total in England starting the weekend at this lovely farm and finishing in London.

We arrived here late in the evening and were excited to find a plate of cookies and farm-fresh eggs on the table. I was the first to wake in the morning and was excited to see a handful of sheep sleeping in their pasture about 6 feet from the kitchen window. It was an awesome sight!

We spent two nights here and 3 children ages 13 to 7 thoroughly enjoyed the time spent in the sheep barn holding baby lambs, feeding the chickens, gathering eggs, feeding their bull Hagrid and the fresh country air. My two sons and I climbed the large, steep hill that is a few hundred yards away and the views were incredible!

One thing that is not specific to the house, but more to the area is that restaurant reservations are a must and most stopped serving food around 8:00/8:30pm.

Last, but not least, our hosts were very welcoming and made us feel at home. Our biggest regret was that we couldn't stay longer!

Lovely farm stay in stunning location.

We were not in the cottage long as we were out walking all day. The location is great for a activity holiday in the Peak District. Very friendly owner. Nice and clean, cozy cottage. We would have liked to have stayed longer.

Well presented and well equipped property in a super location. Locally there is plenty to see and great places to eat, lots of dog friendly places too.

Beautiful, lovely spot in the middle of sheeps

  • 4 of 5

This property has everything you need. It has a beautiful sight on a big green hill. You can visit the farm with its sheep, cows, hens and cocks. The farmer is very willing to show it to children. There is no Wifi and barely any Internet which really brings you to rest, but for us a reason to give it four instead of five stars.

The owners of the house are very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.

Lovely cosy cottage, beautiful location, secluded garden for alfresco dinners andfriendly owners

Had a wonderful weekend away. The coach house is a perfect base for exploring the area. It has everything you need to feel at home. Teresa made us feel very welcome upon arrival and departure.

The enclosed garden behind the coach house is the perfect spot for enjoying Hartington cheese, bread and wine whilst watching the sun go down and the bats and owls come out.

We'll be back...

Ideal place to stay and get away from the hustle and bustle.

  • 5 of 5

The Coach House at Gateham Grange, Alstonefield is such a lovely place to stay. As two married couples, and pensioners, we can be a little picky about where we stay, as we know what we expect to find. No problems here - our expectations were definitely exceeded.

The welcome we received was unexpected. Six fresh bantam eggs as well as fresh flowers were there on the dining table. Everything we needed, and more, was available in the kitchen, so we were very optimistic as we explored the rest of the cottage. No disappointments there either.

Everything was just as described on the website. The reception from the Flower family could not have been better. All three were prepared to chat about their farm and this made a big difference to us. We felt welcome and not an inconvenience on their working farm. Even their bull was so docile we thought it was actually a pet. Life on the farm appeared to be like a silent movie as work was taking place. We could see it all but there was so little noise we could relax in a quiet atmosphere.

As a base to explore from it is ideally situated, and we had no problem driving to the towns and attractions in the Peak District. The weather was also very kind to us. Even when using the washing machine and iron during the week we were surprised just how little it cost for electricity.

When can we visit again? It will certainly be on our wish list for next year.
