Overview

About the property

Firth Cottage is a pretty semi-detached cottage situated in tranquil wooded grounds in the hamlet of Alcaig on the Black Isle.

Firth cottage features stunning views of the Cromarty Firth with the mountains Easter Ross beyond from the large open-plan living area. It's a view which is constantly changing with the tide and light. The tidal Firth is a haven for wildlife and ospreys can be seen most days in the summer months from the cottage fishing over the Firth and in the winter thousands of geese can be seen.

The cottage is spotlessly clean, modern, well-equipped and peaceful.

There are 2 bedrooms that can sleep a maximum 4 people. It has a very spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. The kitchen is well-equipped with a dishwasher, washer-dryer machine, gas hob, electric oven, microwave and fridge-freezer. Of the 2 bedrooms, one contains a King Size bed while the other has 2 twin beds. Both bedrooms have built-in wardrobes.

The lounge has a TV with Freeview, a DVD Player with a selections of DVDs, a CD/Radio, games and lots of information and leaflets including our own comprehensive and unique guide to the area. There's under-floor heating throughout controlled by individually controllable thermostats in each room and a heated towel radiator in the shower room.

From the lounge, french doors open out onto the private patio area which has tables and chairs. There are shared wooded gardens that host a large amount of bird life. The cottage is located at the end of a private drive and has parking for 2 cars.

Despite the peace and quiet, the cottage is conveniently located for the town of Dingwall (3 miles away) and the Highland's capital Inverness (12 miles). It is also the perfect base for touring the Highlands being at the hub of the road network. Some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK - Glen Affric, Loch Ness, Torridon, Assynt - is less than an hour away. The Black Isle itself has historical villages like Cromarty, great beaches such as Rosemarkie and in Chanonry Poiunt has the best land location to see dolphins in the UK.

A well-behaved pet may be allowed at no extra cost but only by arrangement.

In short, the Firth Cottage offers you the opportunity to stay in a clean, comfortable, quiet location with exceptional views and be perfectly located for the best the Highlands has to offer.

Clean, lovely views, quiet, windy!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was spotless, modern and has all modern conveniences and good water pressure. There was a great collection of tourist information and maps. It was a good location for touring The Black Isle, Inverness, and further north. Unfortunately there is no shoreline access nearby.

Lots of hot water. We couldn't figure out how to turn down the heating so the cottage was very warm by late afternoon.

My husband loved the views from the sitting room.

Beautiful cottage with stunning views!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is outstanding. Clean, warm and spacious. A lovely welcome pack and even our little dog was thought of in way of a bowl of water on a tray. Beds were very comfy. Basically it has everything you could think of.

And the views! Amazing. I could've sat and looked at it all day.

If you are coming up to see the dolphins it is only a short drive away. We saw them twice. Amazing. We will definitely come back.

A lovely, quiet house, beautifully furnished in the most fabulous location.

  • 5 of 5

The property was very comfortable and pleasant with spectacular views along Cromarty Firth. The location was peaceful and relaxed but within easy reach of local amenities, tourist attractions and great walking country. The house was spotlessly clean, warm and well equipped. David and Amanda made us feel most welcome and were extremely helpful throughout our stay. A brilliant guide to area was provided with detailed maps and recommendations, providing useful tips about the best routes to take and the best times to visit certain areas. We spent three lovely days exploring the Black Isle and also the area around Loch Ness, it was nothing like long enough and we will have to return soon. Particularly special events were watching dolphins at Chanonry Point and salmon leaping at Rogie Falls both within an easy drive from the house.

We're perfectly positioned to travel in every direction. Located on the edge of the scenic Black Isle we're minutes away from Chanonry Point, the best place to see dolphins in the UK. The Black Isle also has a range of beautiful settlements such as Cromarty and Fortrose and a great family beach at Rosemarkie.

To the north are historic towns like Tain, world-class distilleries like Glenmorangie and fantastic beaches such as Dornoch.

In less than an hour you can be on the west coast with its sensational mountain scenery in places such as Torridon or Assynt.

To the south is Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, with a host of amenities and the world famous Loch Ness. Also to the south and around an hour away is Speyside with its huge numbers of distilleries and the Cairngorms, a fantastic place for outdoor activities such as skiing, watersports and hiking.
