About the property

Newly renovated barn (2015): traditional styling with contemporary home comforts

Hayfield View is a family owned, dog friendly, cosy and welcoming holiday let a mere hop, skip and a jump away from Hayfield - one of the prettiest villages in the Peak District.

Our luxury camping barn used to house our collection of rescued chickens; now it’s a home from home for weary walkers. Situated a little way from the main house among nine acres of heather moorland and pasture, yet also within easy walking distance of our guest parking area, the barn sleeps two to six people. There’s a double bed and two single bunks, as well as a comfortable double sofa bed upstairs for use by larger groups or families.

To take full advantage of the views across the surrounding fields and hills, we’ve put the kitchen and living area upstairs and kept the bedroom and shower room downstairs. Facilities available include a combi microwave, hob, fridge, kettle, and toaster in the kitchen, and there’s a big TV and a large, comfy sofa in the living area.

There’ll be a warm welcome when you arrive, and all the essentials (bread, butter, milk, breakfast cereals, tea, coffee, biscuits and wine) to help you settle right in from the minute you get here. Plus we’re chock-full of local knowledge and will do our best to help make your Derbyshire holiday a truly memorable one.

When it’s time to get out and about, it’s an easy drive to Peak District highlights like the Hope Valley and Castleton, the lovely spa town of Buxton, and the bright lights of Manchester... You may never get that far, though, since there’s some amazing walking and mountain biking country right outside our door: the gate at the rear of our property opens directly onto a lane leading up into the hills and freedom!

Please note that access to the upstairs living room and kitchen is via a beautiful spiral staircase which, while lovely (and space-saving!), may be a problem for some. If you think you or your pet might struggle with the stairs, please give us a call and ask any questions you need to before making the decision to book your stay. Thank you.

About Linda and Keith Scowcroft

Chinley Moor House has been part of our family for a long time. Linda was born and grew up here, and we bought the house from Linda's parents after the birth of our first son, to bring up our own family in. Our two sons are now grown up and, since our retirement, we've turned our attention to making our home pay its way! We live here with our dog, Danny, and enjoy regular visits from our young grandson.

Linda and Keith Scowcroft purchased this barn in 1950

Beautiful Little Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Firstly, communication with the landlords was very good. They also sent us an e-mail a few days prior to our visit with local attractions etc..

We were met on arrival and shown around this gorgeous little place. Pretty much everything you could need for a self-catering break is included in the cottage, from kitchen equipment to basics such as bread, milk and condiments etc.. EVEN some freshly made cake in the tin! Very clean, very tidy and very homely.

Surrounding area is amazing.. Walk straight out of the back door and carry on as far as you dare through some stunning (hilly) scenery. Hayfield is a very nice village and also has plenty of supplies for your stay.

We felt we only really scratched the surface of the area and are definitely looking to book again!

Beautiful, wonderful little gem of a cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage provided the perfect base for us and our dogs on our hiking holiday. Linda and Keith were perfect hosts, and provided many home comforts. If this were a hotel, it would be 5* for sure!

Ideally situated, a short drive from any "must see" Peak District highlights, but there was also a stunning walk from our front door.

The property itself was immaculate, with a very comfortable bed and living area and the dogs adored the huge garden space to play in. The well-stocked kitchen meant we could cook easily in the evening, the wi-fi was reliable (although we did try to "switch off" as much as possible) and there was even a smart TV so we could log into our Netflix account. The owners have thought of everything!

We will definitely be back as the weather meant we couldn't do all the walks we'd planned. I look forward to enjoying this thoroughly luxurious little chicken barn. The perfect getaway from hectic London life. Thank you Linda and Keith!

Excellent retreat, lovely owners and great walks

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived Lynda was very welcoming and explained everything we needed to know. The accommodation is superb and equipped to the highest standard, we especially liked the oven which is also a microwave. There is everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. It took our German Shepherd a day to master the stairs, after I carried her down it for the first time. We will definatley stay there again, I can't recommend this place enough, the owners are lovely and if you want a relaxing stay or a rambling stay this barn has it all.

Lovely cottage with its own private moor!

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderfully peaceful stay in this beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean barn conversion. The walking from the door is as good as anywhere in the Peak District, and the dog loved running straight out of the door into the private moorland that surrounds the cottage! Away from it all yet every facility is within easy driving distance. Bar food at The Lamb Inn (walking distance) recommended. Owners couldn't be more helpful.

Stunning little barn...we didnt want to leave

  • 5 of 5

Right from the start we had a great experience with prompt responses to emails with all the information needed from the owners. We knew even before we got there that this would be a special little place and we weren't wrong.

The owners have thought of everything and more when it comes to the essentials, and even added lots of non essentials that just made it even more special. We couldn't think of anything we would need that wasn't already catered for.

We were provided with a welcome pack on arrival which included homemade mince pies that were delicious :D we were also given a bottle of bubbly. the views are stunning with no other properties from behind the barn over to the peaks

The barn was warm, welcoming and cozy even with storm Barbara and Conor raging outside.

This really is a five star property that I will be raving about for a long time. My Husband and I had a fantastic Christmas break and cant wait to come back

Thanks for looking after us xx

Stunning cottage

  • 5 of 5

An absolutely stunning luxury cottage. Linda and Keith are excellent hosts. Linda showed us around and how everything worked and then left us to it.

All the lovely touches and welcome pack are excellent.

Anyone wanting a very cosy, warm luxurious cottage to escape too will not be disappointed.

The surroundings are fantastic for walking or just sit outside and watch the world go by.No mobile signal (pure bliss) but did have WiFi if you really needed to be in touch with the outside world.

Our dog loved it and so did we, just wish we could have stayed longer, we will be back next year. ☺☺
