Country retreat in the Garden of England, close to the Channel Tunnel and only 37 minutes on the train from Ashford to London St Pancras.
Two bedrooms - one double and the other with two single beds. Guests have access to their own private bathroom.
Two rooms are available on the same landing with a private bathroom. Depending on your numbers, one person, couples, families or groups can book one or both rooms. However, if only one room is booked our policy is that the other will not be made available as a separate booking which gives our guests privacy.
Rates are per room. If you are booking both rooms it will be £95 a night during the week and £105 at the weekend.
Guests will have access to the bedrooms, bathroom, the dining room for breakfast and the grounds.
Interaction with Guests
Being a family home, we very much interact with our guests. We are on hand for recommendations and happy to chat to and be available for our guests whenever they need us. The dining room is in the main part of the house and forms part of an open space connected with the kitchen.
Our home is situated in a remote part of South East Kent. The countryside is some of the most stunning in England. Even though we are remote, we have very quick access to the motorway and Ashford International Station (which has the high speed rail link to central London in 37 minutes) is 15 minutes away by car.
The 125 bus goes from near the house all the way to Ashford town centre and train station, Ashford International which gets you to Central London in 37 minutes.
Other Things to Note
Guests may use our small sitting room with open fire if requested in advance. This will be available to use until 10pm.
We allow guests to bring a pet with them (at a charge of £15 per pet) but would need to discuss arrangements for the pet prior to booking.
We have quite a few animals at home, 2 dogs and a newly acquired kitten, as well as 2 goats, 8 chickens, 2 geese and a pony!
We are a family of four with two young boys, 2 dogs, 2 goats, 9 chickens, 2 geese, a cat, and two ponies! We moved out of London to Kent two years ago and decided to let our London home as a holiday let as it is in such a unique and beautiful location.
Having lived in Kent for two years now we decided to do B&B from our home as it is also in a stunning location and is close to many interesting and fun places.
We love to go for walks with our children, relax in front of our open fire, work in our garden and visit the many different places of interest we have nearby.
Rachel Pielow-Spratt purchased this cottage in 2013
We feel that our B&B and Shepherds Hut provide guests with the chance to get away from it all in a rural location but also close to lots of great places and things to do. We are in a unique location being so close to the Channel Tunnel and also London only 37 minutes away by train. There is so much to see and do in the area with a large variety of old English Villages, shopping, Zoo's, parks, beaches, restaurants, pubs. The list goes on. A great place to be with family or friends.
Thank you so much Rachel & Will for four great days to start our vacation in England. Located in beautiful country we found your house not only perfect from he tunnel but also for going to London in less than one hour by speed train and returning to a quiet retreat with fresh air and wonderful breakfast after all the noise and business of the big city. We lived staying with you and your dogs, cat, horses, geese,... and would come back luckily plus recommend (except for those afraid of dogs perhaps ;-))! Thank you very much for your hospitality and all the good advices! PS: Those scones you invited us to upon arrival made me an addict - thanks, grrr...- how many hours of running that will cost, to work the clotted cream and jam off !!! H&N&A
We have just had a wonderful time at Thatched Cottage with the Pielow-Spratt family. It was everything promised in the description. We had the run of a lovely downstairs living room with woodburning stove that kept us toasty warm despite the sudden cold weather. The two bedrooms are a good size and were perfect for a family of four.
Rachael and Will were just such wonderful hosts. They were attentive to our needs and were very warm and welcoming. Rachael cooks an amazing breakfast!
The property was well kept and clean. Our children played with their two lovely young boys and they explored their grounds together. They have geese, chickens, goats, and ponies so there were plenty of animals to look at and lots for the children to do.
We also explored round that area of Kent which is beautiful We visited Rye and Tentarden, which are just a short drive from the house and are both well worth a visit. It is only 30 minutes on the train from Ashford into London for a daytrip. We also had probably the best pub lunch at the Ferry Inn, Stoney, where the landlord was incredibly welcoming and serves the best burger we have ever eaten (highly reccommended by the Spratts for even the most sophisticated burger lovers!)
What we really liked was that the accommodation is not separate to their own home but within it. It means that we really got to know them whilst we were there and it was really great for the kids who just mingled and had fun together. I would reccommend this destination especially for parents of young children (2-5) who understand the bustle of family life but want to spend some time in a wonderful country home which is also reall close to some lovely places to visit.
We would definitely go back and in fact have already decided to go back next year!
Highly reccommended, thanks for a brilliant holiday!
