KELDA GARTHR (TRANQUIL GARDEN). Located in Middleham with superb views to rear.

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Three bedrooms sleeping 5, conservatory, downstairs WC and open fire.

Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac on the outskirts of Middleham, just 5 minutes walk from the village centre and castle, Kelda Garthr (Tranquil Garden) is an ideal base to explore North Yorkshire.

Kelda Garthr is a three bedroom, centrally heated self-catering house, offering one double with wall mounted television, one twin and one single bedroom, sleeping a maximum of 5. The comfortable lounge to the rear has all the usual facilities including a television, DVD player, CD player and X-box 360. A good selection of books and games are also available. This room also has an open fire with logs provided for you to use if you wish. There is an adjoining conservatory, and this along with the lounge and two rear bedrooms have stunning views over the fields at the rear of the house. The garden at the rear has been designed to attract birds and many varieties can be seen. The property has a bathroom with bath and walk-in shower with the added convenience of a downstairs WC. The kitchen has the usual facilities including a hob cooker, grill and oven, fridge with a small freezer compartment and a good sized dishwasher.

Two sets of golf clubs and a trolley are available for you to use should you wish to visit one of the courses in the area.

There is off road parking for up to three cars.

The village has a convenience store, fish and chip shop, antique shops and four pubs. In addition there is of course the castle, a children's play area and several stables should you have an interest in horse racing. The gallops are approximately half a mile away and the local horses (said to be several hundred) can be seen exercising most, if not every morning here. Just a short 2 mile drive takes you to Leyburn with all the facilities you would expect from a small market town.

Short breaks (minimum 3 night stay) are welcome during off-peak seasons providing they do not span a two week period with Saturday being the changeover day, i.e.. within a Saturday to Saturday period (Friday to Friday prior to May 11th)

Unfortunately Kelda Garthr IS NOT suitable for wheelchair access.

Please note that the maximum length of stay is 28 days. I do not accept corporate or work based bookings.

Strictly no smoking and no pets.

Why The Owner chose Middleham

I have been visiting North Yorkshire for over 20 years and never tire of it. Having nearly purchased the house I rented all these years I decided to cast the net a little wider and looked at Middleham as one of the possibilities. The moment I opened the lounge door and saw the view to the rear I fell in love with the place.

What makes this house unique

Just 12 miles from the A1 Middleham is a great base to explore North Yorkshire. York and Newcastle are an hour away if you like shopping, the East Yorkshire coast and Yorkshire Moors can be explored if you wish a full day out or maybe you would just like to drive through the scenic routes of the Yorkshire Dales.

If you like racehorses there are several stables in the village with a few hundred horses. The gallops nearby can be easily walked to where you can see them being exercised in a morning.

For steam railway enthusiasts there is the National Railway Museum in York, Locomotion at Shildon and the preserved line just 2 miles away in Leyburn. If you are a little more adventurous there is the splendour of The North Yorkshire Moors Railway in Heartbeat territory.

There are also many historical sites to visit in the area. Jervaulx Abbey is just 3 miles away but there are many other sites including Fountains Abbey, Rievaulx Abbey, Richmond Castle, Helmsley Castle and Hartlepool Docks to name but a few.

Finally, 45 minutes away in Thirsk, is the James Herriot Museum, synonymous with glorious Yorkshire Dales.

Wake up to a view

  • 5 of 5

Kelda Garthr looks over open fields and across the dale. There can be few better ways of starting a holiday than walking into the sitting room and taking in this view. It is in a quiet area on the edge of the village but only a short walk from the village centre that has a great little shop and some good pubs. We loved it there and are seriously thinking about a return visit.

Lovely property

  • 4 of 5

Lovely property but Lounge Carpet could have been cleaner.

Arrived to find that kitchen was clean but sink had not been emptied.

Communication and instructions good property well kept apart from that.

Lovely views

  • 4 of 5

Kelda Garthr was easy to find, thanks to the directions sent by James. It is on a small housing estate in Middleham, but in a very quiet cul de sac, and with wonderful views over the dale. It is a very short stroll into the village, where there are four pubs. The White Swan and Richard III do good meals, as does the Three Horseshoes a little further down the dale in Wensley.

Middleham Castle is worth a visit, and we also very much enjoyed Gayle Mill just beyond Hawes further up the dale. Very interesting if you like old machinery.

Kelda Garthr is very comfortable and homely. Lots of books, games etc., and information on the various places to go in the area, including a couple of Ordnance Survey maps which help if you don't know the area very well.

We would have given five stars, but, unlike one reviewer, we didn't find the beds very comfortable; very much a personal thing though.

All in all, a very nice place to stay.

Perfect home in the Dales

  • 5 of 5

This lovely home in Middleham met our needs perfectly. Our favorite space was the conservatory overlooking their garden and a field of sheep. It was a perfect location foe exploring the Wensleydale and Swaildale areas. We took many walks through the countryside and enjoyed watching race horses walking through the middle of town.
