About the property

LAKEFRONT, LOG HOME WITH GREAT LAKE AND MOUNTAIN VIEWS. A classic Colorado log home, updated and renovated. Our Log House at Moose Lake Lodge is in a fabulous location on the north shore of Sun Valley Lake. It sits 1/4 mile from Rocky Mountain National Park and Arapaho National Forest, 3.5 miles from Grand Lake, and is just 100 miles from Denver. The large deck with a wonderful southern exposure offers sweeping lake and mountain views.

Western charm abounds in this 2100 square foot, non-smoking home. There are four comfortable bedrooms with one king, three queen, and two twin beds; two baths, one with a steam shower. The main level features a great room with kitchen and dining area. The lower level has a large recreation room with comfortable furniture, TV, and DVD player. Free Wifi.

Sun Valley Lake is a secluded private lake. Wildlife abounds in and around this beautiful lake. Many animals including moose, elk, deer, and bear, are frequent visitors. A wide variety of birds nest and feed around the lake. To protect the habitat and environment for the abundant wildlife, no powered boats are allowed on the lake. We provide at least one watercraft for you to use (at your own risk) to enjoy the lake. The lake is a catch and release sport fishing lake. The fishing is usually great!

Experience mountain comfort living in this special, magical place. It is a great place to make family memories!

About Rhondda Wells

We are a large extended family all of whom love spending time at our lakefront home. Our children loved their time here as they were growing up spending many hours fishing, hiking, boating and exploring. Now our grandchildren enjoy the same opportunities. We are very fortunate to own a home in this pristine lakefront location.

Rhondda Wells purchased this house in 1996

Why Rhondda Wells chose Grand Lake

The lake, views and wildlife are superb!

What makes this house unique

Probably the best location in the Grand Lake area for seeing moose and other wildlife.

Guestbook comments from the owner

WOW! WOW! WOW! What a wonderful, beautiful and restful week.

My wife and I (45 years and going strong) feel like it was our honeymoon all over. Everything was just perfect. The big bear turning the dumpster upside down was a hoot.

Unfortunately we head back to 107 degrees in Texas, but we will return to Moose Lake Lodge again.

Bed Linens provided, Steam Shower, Huge Sunny Deck. One well behaved, and totally house trained pet is welcome. There is an additional fee. We are absolute lakefront - your private dock is only about 30 feet from the back door. ( Please be aware that some rentals in the Grand Lake area advertise themselves as "lakefront" when in fact there is quite a hike to access a lake.) Lakes freeze in the winter in the mountains. Our lake normally thaws between mid- April and early -May. The lake is usually stocked with rainbow trout by the second weekend in May. That is when the catch-and-release fishing is usually awesome!

Great Place for a Family

  • 5 of 5

The place was fantastic for a family to stay. Wish we had more snow when we were up there but that is not the any fault of the owners. We had everything we needed and it was situated in a ideal location for snowmobiling in and out. We have a six place snowmobile trailer and there was more than enough room for us to get in and out. Could park the trailer and ride directly to the trails in Grand Lake.

Very comfortable cabin on beautiful Sun Valley Lake

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin. We did not want to leave!

The cabin was so comfortable for the four of us. Every bed in the cabin is very comfortable. Our 16 year old daughter enjoyed having her own personal space upstairs and our 12 year old loved the main level space. The rec room plus bedroom was perfect for us adults.

This cabin is stocked with everything you need in the kitchen. We cooked every night and went out to eat one night in Grand Lake.

It was great to be able to bring our two dogs that enjoyed watching us catch trout from the lake. We enjoyed going out in the canoe, paddle boat, and row boat provided. We will be back to see the moose, but we were able to get several great photos of the elk that were seen right down the road from the cabin. It is so convenient to the town of Grand Lake, as well as the Rocky Mountain National Park. We hope to be back soon! Thanks again!

OH my gosh we will be back!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful piece of heaven with us. The cabin was amazing and had every comfort of home. There is nothing like the deck and the view of the lake. My kids would not get off the water and the canoes and paddleboat were a hit. Being a native of Colorado, I had yet to see a moose. Our first night we saw a male, mamma and baby. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Thank you for everything and we're already talking about booking next year!

Wonderful family retreat on small lake

Really enjoyed using all 3 watercraft provided by owner

Also got a kick out of seeing the lake's 3 resident moose, fox and muskrat

Appreciated the nice quality of the cooking pans and the generous quantity of dishes, silverware and glassware

Best of all was the wonderful deck where you can sit and admire the view

Only complaint was the strong smell of cleaning fluids in the lower level when we arrived. This was easily remedied by opening windows

All in all a great experience

Beautiful stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed for a week and we fell in love with Colorado. It was oh first time in Colorado and this property made our experience beyond our imagination. The location is great and the view is breath taking. The area around the property is very alive full of animas. Spotted many mooses, fox, elks, and deers. The house is clean and has everything you need, just some things that need to be updated like beding and outdoor grill.

Thank you for an amazing vacation.
