This location in Old Frontenac is the most peaceful place we know of. It is located right on the beach with wonderful views of the Mississippi and a nice beach. We enjoy building fires in the evening and just enjoying the scenery. Fall and spring are wonderful seasons with lots of wildlife in view and the colors of the leaves changing are breathtaking in the fall. Summer is wonderful with quiet nights and gentle breezes.
We enjoy the peace and quiet that this location offers. I love cooking on the grill overlooking the water. Our children enjoy the water and all the amenities it offers - with boating, canoeing etc being fun for them. We like to walk and Old Frontenac is great for walking an biking. The wildlife is amazing with bald eagles being daily visitors and deer and waterfowl abounding in the neighborhood. This is the only rental we are aware of on Lake Pepin with direct access to the lake - no roads etc between the cabin and the lake!
Late at night we enjoy playing board games on the large table with the family and guests. The table actually seats 8 if friends show up for the day!
This was our second stay at the cabin and certainly will not be our last. The cabin is wonderful and has everything you need. Lake City is a five minute drive away for any essentials you forgot. It was unseasonably cool the first two days of our stay but the living room has floor to ceiling windows so we enjoyed the river and bluff views from the cozy living room. We even saw a few eagles and hawks dive into the water and catch fish! The neighborhood is quiet and safe which is something my husband and I value. The water was high when we were there so we didn't have a beach but the water lapping up against the retaining wall was the next best thing. Boat traffic is minimal which made our canoe trips enjoyable. There is a state park trail just a mile or so down the road that we hiked several times. The owners are easy to work with and accommodating. We spent some time in Red Wing on a rainy day. If you visit, you should stop at the Whistle Stop cafe in Frontenac. It is the quintessential very small town cafe. Nothing fancy but a fun way to support the local economy.
My family comes to Lake City every year for the 100 Mile Garage Sale. We found Jim and Ann's cabin to be the perfect place. We sat in the living room each evening watching the eagles. The beds are so comfortable. We woke refreshed each morning ready for another day of searching for treasures. I really appreciated all the helpful notes. Thanks so much. We will be back.
My son and his family recently moved to Iowa from the east coast and had never experienced a lake vacation. The five of us spent a week at this lovely home and enjoyed fishing, swimming, eagle watching, barbecuing, canoeing and paddleboating. We made several day trips to Red Wing, Wabasha and other river towns taking in art fairs, boat cruises, national eagle center, wine tasting tours, scenic hikes and viewing barges going through locks. Jim and his wife were perfect hosts and went out of their way to return some items we left behind. Many thanks!
I and my 2 girlfriends stayed here for 2 nights. We had a bit of a surprise as it was a very wet Spring and the grounds around the home flooded. Jim one of the owners was good enough to let us know in advance that it may happen but we decided to go ahead and stick with our plans. He even stopped by to check on us the second night, which was nice. The home is very nice and is right on Lake Pepin. The first day we watched an Eagle swoop down and catch a fish and then land in the tree right next to the deck and eat it. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck and watching all the eagles and much to our surprise flocks of pelicans too. We enjoyed the fireplace and played games around it in the evenings. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need and we enjoyed staying in and eating most of our meals right there. It's only 13 miles to Red Wing and is worth the trip in to see the shops. We would like to come back another time so we can see the beach and maybe take a canoe ride. It was a fun and interesting girls weekend.
We had such a WONDERFUL stay at this property. A quick list of our favorites- the location, the view, the beach, the canoes, the kitchen stocked with every dish/utensil we could possibly need, the cleanliness, the availability of a washer/dryer, the fishing, the beach toys, the fire pit, the beach chairs, the sleeping accomodations, the A/C (we picked a really hot week), the board games. The list could go on and on. Thank you so much for a great time, we will definitely be back again!
beyond my expectations. I have discovered that many owners exaggerate the good points of their property amd ..leave out the problems. this cabin was even better than I hoped. T he beds and chairs were comfortable. The AC really worked . The view was fabulous.
The water was high but it just gave us more to see and the swimming was still great. I can't handle much roughing it anymore and I sure didn't find anything to complain about. Will be back
Canoeing, two canoes are available for our guests. We also have a paddle boat available for guests.
