Curtis House was formerly the home of Herbert Hoover's Vice-President, Charles Curtis, the only (part) Native American ever to hold that office. Ideally located for visitors, the apartment is about a mile from the White House, blocks from major museums and other sites, and steps from Adams-Morgan and the newly revitalized U St. area.
The flat has a separate dressing room off the bath. An office "nook" holds a desk, phone, and printer/fax/copier for the business traveler. Meeting and conference space is available nearby. The flat is quite large and has just been updated. It is fully furnished with an extensive library of international classics and multi-lingual dictionaries. The intimate rear garden has organic herbs and, sometimes, veggies.
Sheets and towels changed weekly. Bedroom is larger than it appears.
Spanish, French, and Italian spoken here (and a little Portuguese).

About Roy A. Wyscarver
We fell in love with Dupont Circle in the 70's when we first moved to DC from New England and never wanted to live anywhere else. We really enjoy sharing our small but vibrant community with guests. The house was built in the Richardsonian Romanesque style. We can't add a link here, but the style is "googlable".
Roy A. Wyscarver purchased this Apartment in 1987
Why Roy A. Wyscarver chose Dupont Circle
We want this to be your vacation rental, but it's not ours. This neighborood is where we have lived almost all our adult lives and where we have reared our children. We are not into DC "power", but the history vibes are almost palpable.

Perfect DC location !
My second time staying here and would stay again. We love the 10 minute walk to DuPont Circle and all it has to offer; good restaurants, bookstore and delicious bakery!
Roy is an excellent host and so helpful getting us a parking pass and anything we needed.
The basement apartment is spacious and charming, but could provide a bit of a challenge for an older person. The entry steps are steep and narrow, and getting in and out of the tub would be safer with a grab bar.
Overall, our month here was wonderful!
Classic apartment in the heart of DC
We stayed six weeks with a toddler and Roy and Ann were beyond gracious and accomodating. It is the roomiest basement apartment we saw in Dupont Circle with the best price as well. They had the place well stocked so that it felt like home and always did little things to make our lives easier. We look forward to keeping in touch and going back. Crazy good foot and restaurants and even a dog park steps away. We loved mojitos wednesdays at lauriol plaza, and happy hour at rosemary thyme. Thank you for the great stay!
We enjoyed our stay in D.C. and the apartment was an easy walk to the metro, good restaurants and markets. Roy is a gracious host, gave us a tour of the neighborhood on arrival and was quick to respond to any needs but never intrusive. However, the apartment could use a thorough cleaning/freshening, we didn't use the back garden due to the heat.
Great Location, Amenities, Price
You really can't go wrong with this basement suite for the price. The location is perfect and near transportation, grocery and restaurants (easy walk to Rosemary Thyme across the street for thin-crust pizza, Hanks Oyster House on Q St and Keren (ethiopian) on U St.) If you want to eat in, the kitchen is well stocked with everything you would need. A ton of room and lots of antiquey surprises, including an amazing library of books. I stayed for 4 days and the place and surrounding area really grew on me. Only thing I'd change is a bit larger TV as it is quite a distance from the sofa I relaxed on at night. Thanks Roy!
Amazing location, hosts, and place
My two teenagers and I spent a week in DC @ this nice basement suite.
The location is great, the basement suite is spacious, clean and cozy.
Last but not least, the hosts are amazing people.
Anytime in DC, this will be my place of choice.
This is a wonderful basement suite. The location is the best for DuPont Circle and the amenities can't be beat! Fresh towels and sheets every week;we stayed almost a month, and a wonderful host. Would definitely stay here again.
