Wilmington House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, Sleeps 6

Our house is on a secluded private island, on a deep water sound with a sandy beach and a dock which can accommodate a 40’ boat. It is directly across the street from the ocean. The waters are very clean and clear so you can fish and clam right off the dock. We are ardent conservationists and have managed to preserve the natural vegetation around the house. There is a very nice maritime forest surrounding the house as well as sea oats and beach grasses. The birding around the house is fabulous and we have many fall visitors who come just to bird watch. Surf fishing is very good because of a slew that has been there for at least 30 years. A boat ramp on the island is nearby so please use the dock that is shared by the owner and friends. Kayaks, surfboards and small boats are all available for rental. Renters are not allowed to bring jet skis on the island. Google map it: 127 Beach Road South, Wilmington NC

Paul and CoCo Foster built the Bay House in 1975 on Figure 8 Island near Wilmington, North Carolina. It is a small, rustic and cozy home that has been recognized for its outstanding design to resist hurricanes. The foundation poles go all the way to the roof and have kept the house from being damaged from the many hurricanes we have recently had. The house has 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. It also has a warm water outside shower that is the most popular bathing area in the summer. The bay is a perfect swimming hole for kids and the ocean beach access is directly across the street from the house. The kitchen is fully equipped including a microwave and a complete set of cookware. Full cable and internet are standard. Paddle boarding and kayaking are excellent in the bay!

The Bay house is bright and clean and very relaxed. This is not a luxury home, but a functional beach house. Sandy toes are not a problem! Smoking is permitted outside, but must be carefully controlled because of the high winds and fire hazard. We have had several houses burn down on the island because of cigarette butts left burning in the sand or porch. Figure Eight Island, just north of Wilmington North Carolina, is a private island and gated community, assessable only by land owners and their guests. There are no public facilities on the island. It has the only privately owned bridge over the intracoastal waterway. We have clean and white sandy beaches with blue green ocean water with have multiple turtle hatchling every year on the island. The beach is not crowded since the public is not allowed on the island. Please be advised that the deck railings are strong but not to current building code. Look closely at the photographs to ensure they are acceptable.

The Bay House is available in all seasons, including November through May in the winter, as a monthly rental for our snowbird friends. We encourage our Canadian friends to come and stay for a 3-4 month winter rental. Figure 8 Island is a secluded island frequented by celebrities and politicians.

Please note: We are members of Friends of Felines and we support a small colony of feral cats to help keep the beach mice at bay. They do not go inside the house and are afraind of people so you may not even see them. Their feeding station is in the woods and we feed them once a day.

Relaxing Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Bay House and loved the cottage feel. We enjoyed fishing on the docks and swimming in the bay. The beach was beautiful and is so quiet and peaceful. The beach access is very convenient, being right across the street. I would recommend taking bikes- nice paths and beautiful houses and nature to see.

The house has all the kitchen necessities needed and a nice deck area to eat outside. We can't wait to visit again!

Wonderful Place

Very nice stay at the Bay House with my family. 5 of us. Quiet, clean, cozy. Location can't be beat -- right across the street from a beautiful beach, tennis courts down the road.

Great retreat at the beach!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I spent the weekend here with 4 other adults and a child. It is the perfect place to stay if a view of the beach is not essential. The house is rustic in appearance but with all the amenities that anyone needs and expects. The yard is not landscaped but consists of native vegetation. There were herons with two nests in the trees surrounding the house deck. Access to the beach is just across the street and there is a dock on the backside of the house in a little cove where you can park a boat and leave a kayak, canoe or paddle boards. Areas for fishing, clamming and crabbing are about a half mile away, or within the cove. If you want to just relax and read, the deck is a great place for this.

Great Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

June visit to the Bay House was a wonderful escape from the busy world. The house was just as described--cozy, very clean, just right! Fresh flowers on the tables were a nice touch. Futon in living area was quite comfortable. Beach access directly across the street led us to a wide, almost private beach. We once saw 5 pleople way down the beach, and that was as crowded as it got. We enjoyed afternoon breezes on the deck and fishing from the dock. What a treasure, would love to spend more time at the Bay House.

Wilmington is a historic town and is often called a mini Charlestown. The restaurants are excellent and many events are held downtown for tourists enjoyment. There are charter fishing boats available as well as the ability to rent a small boat or kayaks to enjoy our inland waterways. Several excellent golf courses are in the area. A close by surf shop has many surfboards to rent, lessons and even has stand up paddle boards! Movie thearters and good restaurants are close to Figure 8 Island so there is plenty to do!

Other Activities: miniature golf, boating, health spa, shopping, kayaking

Notes:
We have a deep water dock on bay that leads directly to intracoastal waterway and to two inlets to the ocean. Dock can accommodate up to a 40' boat. House is directly across the street from the ocean and there is a beach path right in front of the house. The island is private, uncrowded and secluded. The house is surrounded by a maritime forest that makes it really private. Sailing and stand up paddleboarding is wonderful in the bay and surfing is great right out in front in the ocean. The house is an older home so the railings are not built to modern building codes but they are strong. Please look at the photos to determine if they are acceptable for your needs.
