Quietwater Cottage-On Water/Nature&Birding, Peaceful! Nearby Ski Hills! Sauna!

Bedrooms 2
Space 650 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom. Cozy cottage, knotty pine, waterfront with great view!

Rent this nicely furnished cottage to enjoy the beauty of nature on the Wisconsin River and Lake Wisconsin in this rustic, yet cozy river/lake cottage. Beautiful views out the large living room windows look onto green, sandy islands and the undeveloped distant shores of the Wisconsin River as it opens up into Lake WI. Two-person sauna on deck with great view of river and hills.

Conveniently located on the Lake Wisconsin waterfront between Madison and the Wisconsin Dells, just 1.5 hours from Milw and 3 hours from Chicago.

Watch crimson sunsets from the 16' x 25' deck or from a shady grove of maple trees at water's edge. Whether it's the knotty pine walls of the living room and kitchen, the view of sunset over the water from bed, or the wooden twin-over-full bunk bed in the second bedroom you’ll always feel cozy and welcome at Quietwater Cottage. You'll enjoy yourselves so much you'll be anxious to come for another visit! Six-person hot tub and two-person ceramic heater sauna on deck with great view of river and hills.

There is so much for your family to see, so much to do year round in the area!

SPRING, SUMMER, and FALL Adventures! Green trees, sunny sand-bars, and a lazy river await you. Tucked off the main channel the cottage has the best of both worlds…easy assess to the big water, a great view of the water and sunsets, but little boat traffic. Because of our shallow waterfront location, the choice is yours, launch your boat at one of 3 nearby boat launchs and head left for Lake Wisconsin or go right for the Wisconsin River. You’ve got it all right here! You can launch your boat daily and spend an exciting day on the open water of the lake (too shallow to get a boat of any size into our channel but you can park your trailer in front at the end of the day) or a quiet day exploring the Dells-like bluffs and the nearby islands, coves, and backwaters in your canoe or kayak. The shallow water in front is perfect for kayaks and canoes. Explore the many channels, sandbars, and islands of the WI River and Lake WI. Relax with friends or family on the deck after a day canoeing or kayaking around the sandy tree-covered islands.

Enjoy shallow water fishing from the pier or while wading or head out in a boat to hit several of the best local fishing spots all within 5 minutes of the cottage: The Narrows, Fockes Bluffs, and Camp Rest Park. Good fishing for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Catfish, Largemouth, Crappie and more.

The cottage has a green lawn for yard games or for kids to run around in, plus just a block away is a park with playground equipment and wading beach, perfect for small children and dogs. Tennis and basketball courts are just a mile up the road. Bike riding opportunities on winding country roads in the area are fantastic. Up for a challenge? Circle Lake Wisconsin on your bike, it's about a 50-60 mile trip with a free ferryboat crossing as a highlight!

This two bedroom, one bathroom house has a small but full kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with most anything you’ll need to prepare any meal you like…or grill out on waterside deck on the gas grill! Feeling lazy? Kick back and enjoy the 37” flat screen LCD HDTV or enjoy the hot tub which seats up to six people, so...relax, sip a drink, even surf the web, and watch the river go by!

Beautiful views out the large living room windows and across the 16’x25’ deck look onto green, sandy islands and the undeveloped distant shores of the Wisconsin River as it opens up into Lake Wisconsin.

FALL & WINTER FUN! After the summer crowds leave you’ll find unique beauty and tranquility on the river. Tucked in among the surrounding bluffs and hillsides you’ll find gorgeous fall colors and dazzling winter scenery. Hundreds of wooded acres across the street are home to the Red Bellied Woodpecker, Wild Turkey, and White Tailed Deer, while the ever-changing river offers views of Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, Beaver, and Muskrat. Scenic drives in all directions make interesting day trips more fun! Many nearby day-trip possibilities including the Wollensheim Winery, Wisconsin Dells, Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo Circus World Museum, and so much more. Nearby ski hills include Cascade Mountain (15 min) and Devilshead Lodge (30 min).

So much to see and so much to do! Relaxing!

Fish for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Catfish, Largemouth, Crappie, and more. Many nearby day-trip possibilities including the WI Dells, Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo Circus World Museum, and more! Great bird-watching!

About Dave Weber

We love the outdoors, especially hiking, canoeing, boating, fishing, biking and cross-country skiing! We love to travel all over the world but always feel that the cottage is a fun and relaxing place to call home! We come up whenever we can and are happy to share it with out guests as a vacation rental.

Dave Weber purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Dave Weber chose Poynette

I've fished this area since I was a boy, always making it up for the White Bass run in May. finally bought a place on the river and have been enjoying it for many years. We love relaxing and continue to be fascinated exploring the Lake Wisconsin area, whether on bike, foot, car, or boat!

What makes this cottage unique

The natural beauty of the area is astounding. So much less developed than the Dells and some much hillier and varied terrain than Door County. The Lake Wisconsin area is great treasure that you never get tired of!

Beautiful view, very clean and comfortable. Just as described and more beautiful than the pictures.

  • 5 of 5

We just had a wonderful family vacation at Quietwater. Cottage was very clean and comfortable. The view of the river is so peaceful and the bird watching provides ample entertainment. We enjoyed taking canoe rides, splashing around in the river and roasting marshmallows. Thank you for the bottle of wine! Such a nice welcome! We appreciate you sharing the cottage with us. We look forward to visiting again next year. We loved Quietwater.

Perfect ending

  • 5 of 5

The description on line was to the t. The cottage had practically everything you needed. The senery was beautiful and relaxing. The boys had a blast with having the boats for use when ever they wanted. We hope to come back again. Only thing missing was a clothes washer, that is the only thing keeping it from being perfectly flawless. Thank you for sharing your piece of tranquility.

Owner's Response: Lisa, Thanks for being our very first guests at Quietwater! Glad you enjoyed it, I could tell the boys would when I saw them bound out of the car and run for the waterfront. They caught a turtle within no time! I hope you found the little laundromat just four miles up the road in the tiny hamlet of Harmony Grove. It's across the street from the Pizza Parlor. Looking forward to you being our guest again. -Dave

Great ski weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for 3 nights to ski at Cascade Mtn. We love how cozy and homey the cabin is-just like staying at a friend’s place. We were worried it might be cold since it was built as a summer place but we were nice and warm. Everything was very clean, the bed was comfortable. Cabin is well stocked with dishes, etc. We will definitely be back!

Cozy stay in a beautiful and peaceful place

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay at this quiet and cozy cottage for a week. It was the perfect getaway from our jobs and the hustle and bustle around our home. We loved canoeing and boating (both of which were provided). My husband enjoyed some fishing on the property and in the area. The water was quite shallow near the dock, which was actually perfect for our toddler who loved splashing around. The back yard was big enough for our daughter to feel like she could roam freely which was awesome for us. We tested out the hammock and even took a few naps there! We loved going out near the dock at night to watch the gorgeous sunset and hear all the cranes and geese. We took advantage of the hot tub under the starry skies several of the nights after we put our kiddo to bed. We cooked a lot of our meals in the kitchen and appreciated that there were plenty of utensils and pots and pans. The only negative that we experienced was that we could smell that there were dogs there previously. The only reason we likely noticed was because we don't have pets. It definitely wasn't enough to ruin our stay in any way. We hope to visit again some day!
