This is a three bedroom (2 queens and one 2 twin trundle bed) 1.5 bath house with one of the best views of the Columbia River and Mt. Adams anywhere. from every room. Within walking distance to downtown Hood River this is a great rental any time of year.
It’s a mid-century modern design with full glass windows/ walls to the north and north, east and south facing wrap around deck plumbed with a natural gas Weber grill, large yard, drive way, outdoor shower, swing-set, hammock and mature landscaping. Recently restored/ remodeled in 2005 the upstairs has slate and oak floors throughout, modern kitchen with stainless counters, w/d, dw, gas double stove and range, mahogany paneling throughout, an upright piano and a 43” plasma TV. Complete with wireless internet, TV/DVD, surround-sound stereo throughout the main floor and deck it doesn't get much better than this.
The sleeping rooms are downstairs in the day-light basement complete with cork floors, floor to ceiling window
The pictures of this house don't do it justice. To be fair, it's such an amazing view, it's hard to see any picture doing it justice.
The house is modern and comfortable, if spare. Light floods in from the floor to ceiling windows of the living room and kitchen. It's an inverted house, with the bedrooms downstairs. The insulation is minimal, so it's hard to sleep if people are still milling around upstairs.
We hauled the steel wicker table and chairs up from the front yard below, and placed them on the expansive front deck. And pulled some extra furniture from the garage, too. We had a lot of people to feed and entertain, and the deck had room for everyone. We spent the majority of our time on the deck and in the kitchen. We cooked the entire week, and the kitchen (and BBQ Grill) was up to the task. The yard(s) are huge. Plenty of room to allow people to spill out everywhere.
Beds are comfy enough. Probably could have used another shower in the house, but we got by.
The sound system worked well indoors, though we couldn't figure out how to make it play from outside speakers. Maybe we just gave up too easily.
It's a fairly easy walk to town, maybe more of a stroll. You can walk back up from the swimming beach north of the events center, but probably don't want to do that every day. Sailors can check the wind just by looking out the window.
One caveat is that we had to stack furniture along the central staircase. The staircase is open and we worried that our baby would fall into the stairwell.
All in all, I can say this: We'd gladly rent the house again.
Spectacular view of Mt. Adams and the Columbia from this home. Such beautiful finish work on all the stunningly smooth, sleek surfaces, and an easy, open design for movement or conversation areas inside & out. The comfy beds were welcome every night, and our dinners were memorable productions on the amazing gas stove and outdoor grill. No lacy frills needed here, because there's nothing to hide. Quick response from owner on every occasion. We spent 3 delightful days enjoying perfect Sept. weather and appreciated the easy access to town for exploring...and I'd do it all over again in a moment. This was probably the easiest house we've adapted to--easy in/easy out.
This was a beautiful mid century house with views that cover mountains and water.. Owner was so nice and helpful.
Close to everything - big yard. It had it all.. Beautiful
I've used HomeAway/VRBO many times over the years. Each, a very positive, unique experience far surpassing hotel options.
However, this one tops them all.
The photos don't do the place justice ... until you actually walk through the home. Then, they all make sense.
The open layout and stunning views out the wall of windows facing the river top the list of greats.
Daily, my wife would walk to downtown for yoga and such. My son and I, both kiteboarders had easy access to the event site and sand bar. When we weren't there we got to watch all the activity from the balcony.
Kitchen set-up worked perfectly. We all felt right at home instantly. Better than home, really.
We'll definitely return; hopefully annually. The only problem with writing this review was being truthful and fearing that we'll have trouble booking our dates next time.
