My husband and I attended Americade 2016 with another couple and we stayed in the Halycon rental cottage called Charlene. What a wonderful find!! The views from every angle ofthe property were amazing!! The cottage was adorable and had everything we needed for our weekend away. As soon as we pulled up, Becky was right there to greet us and the same with leaving. Becky was very accommodating in regards to all of our needs. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a getaway to Lake George. It is a little over a mile from the Village of Lake George!! Your close enough to walk if you wanted but it was nice to be just outside of village to avoid all of the hustle and bustle. Thanks Becky!! We will definitely be back!!!
My husband, 8-year old son, dog and I spent a terrific week at Lake George and were lucky enough to rent Charlene (the cottage) on Halcyon property. he setting is beautiful and the location is terrific. Our son and dog had a fun time exploring the grounds. My husband, a nature photographer, was able to photograph some wildlife (primarily birds), beautiful plants and a lovely sunrise. We were close to town and yet far from crowds. Lake George is pristine and access to the lake is just steps from the cottage. Swimming was convenient, easy and refreshing. On Thursday night, we were able to enjoy a perfect view of the weekly fireworks from the dock on the property.
The cottage is as advertised and provides all you need for simple living with an added benefit of a strong wifi connection. The family lives in the main house on the same property and are very gracious hosts. More than once they checked to be sure that we had everything that we needed and were enjoying ourselves. They were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful while respecting our privacy.
This was a great vacation with lots to do (rain or shine) in and around Lake George.
My husband and I and our two small dogs had a wonderful stay at Charlene. We really liked the looks of the property when searching online but we were absolutely amazed at how nice and peaceful the property was upon our arrival. The property was even better than the pictures online. The cottage amenities were exactly as advertised on the website so there were no surprises when we got there. Becky was wonderful to us and also left us to our privacy. After finding out my husband is a history buff she recommended a visit to Saratoga National Historical Park and printed out information and directions for us which made our trip there very easy. The Lake George area has many great places to see and wonderful places to hike with our dogs. We also took a day trip up to Lake Placid which wasn't too far of a drive and offered wonderful scenery of the Adirondack Mountains and a peaceful drive. While the weather was a little chilly for our visit, the little beach on the property would be a wonderful place to swim and while away a sunny, warm afternoon. There are several nice vantage points to sit and just enjoy the tranquility of the lake. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay and if we vacation in New York we would most definitely stay at Charlene again. We very much appreciate that the cottage and property is dog friendly. A definite deciding factor on where we would stay. Thank you for sharing your cottage and property with us Becky!!
My husband and I (along with our two labs) stayed here in the fall. This cottage was very well equipped. Becky, the caretaker, was around if we needed her, but never intrusive. She was extremely helpful by sharing her guide books with us. One of our dogs kept joining her group on their porch at the main house and no one seemed to mind. Lake George does appear to be a summer resort and lots of places close in the fall, but we were there for the peace and quiet. Plus, the fall foliage is breath-taking. Charlotte is the perfect get-away cottage.
We absolutely loved our full week's stay at the Charlene! As a couple with 2 grown children, we found the cottage to be well suited for us - clean, comfortable, everything just as described. The kitchen was cozy, but well equipped with utensils, silverware, pots, and dishes. It was helpful to have soap provided in the bathrooms, as well as paper products, rugs, and bath mats. The manager on the property was friendly and helpful, while allowing us our privacy and freedom to enjoy the full scope of this charming property. Our daughter enjoyed drawing from the vantage point of the Gazebo Park; we sat by the fireplace at Picnic Point; and we used the dock for our sailboat. Our son enjoyed fishing from the rowboat that was provided. Swimming was fun, using the dock diving board and floating dock. It is very hard for us to leave this idyllic spot, but we're already hoping to make a return trip. The location is also perfect for easy access to Lake George Village, and to Bolton Landing in the other direction.
Our only suggestions would be to provide a baking sheet or broiling pan, add some small upholstered chairs, and to include instructions on using the indoor fireplace. It would be helpful to include information on the property listing about the narrow bathroom doorways and stairs to the lower level for the benefit of anyone encumbered. The propane heater in the living room was handy and adequate during our slightly chilly September stay. The wireless connection was a boon for those of us who still had to conduct work or just wanted to be in touch with friends. (We brought our own laptops.) We don't have cable at home, so the YES channel was enjoyed by the Yankees fans in the family, as well as ESPN for the football fans! The lower rate for mid-September made this week possible for us. We were fully content when we drove in to the property for the 1st time, and now we are reluctant to drive away. We hope to return, Cottage Charlene! P.S. We learned a lot about the family who has owned the lodge and cottage and property by reading the informative book provided. Fascinating!
