We are Maryland residents who fell in love with the Delaware shore. We built our home for our retirement years. We are very active and enjoy kayaking, road biking and nature photography.
Steve Rohrs, Mary Rohrs purchased this house in 2007
Our home is a sanctuary from everyday stress. Taking long walks on the beach and watching the shorebirds is very relaxing. Sitting on the deck with a good book is a dream. Our home is close enough to stores and shopping, Dover is only 10 miles away.
The layout of our home offers unobstructed views of the Delaware bay. Bowers Beach is close enough to plan day trips to Rehobeth beach or the town of Lewes without being stuck in the kaos of traffic and crowds
The website does not do the house justice. It is just amazing. You cant want for anything in the house. The location on the bay is great and we very much enjoyed the daily walks on the beach, the low and high tides and the quietness of the area. Bowers Beach is about 30 minutes north of Lewes and Rehobeth Beach. It was a one hour drive to Ocean City MD as well. We had no trouble traveling to all the craziness in Ocean City and Rehobeth, having a great time and then returning home to the tranquility of the house and the bay. We would highly recommend jet skiing at least once. It was a highlight!! Our family 2 adults plus 3 kids ages 10,10 and 8 enjoyed our stay. We did lots of bike rides and walks and just generally enjoyed not being "home". Dealing with the owners was breeze, they were very responsive and worked with us on the dates we were interested in spending at the house. Just a suggestion, get your supplies prior to coming to the house as there is no store in Bowers. We went to Dover which is only 15 minutes north of the house where there is everything you need. If you like to fish there are charter boats that leave everyday from Bowers Beach. You can also fish off the beach. On a nice night try JP WHARFS for dinner. They are in Bowers and on the water. Nice outside deck and great fish. The only thing that we were disappointed in was that we could not have stayed longer.
First off let me say that the photos of this house do not do it justice. This is the nicest home I've rented off this site yet. We wanted a vacation spot close enough for our Airman, stationed at Dover, to be able to stay with us and this home definitely fit that. He didn't have the week off that we spent there but was done by 4pm and able to come after his shift for dinner and spend the nights with us. The beach was great and within walking distance you can go charter boat fishing. We look forward to being able to use this home again in the future as there are many more places I would like to see in the surrounding area.
This home shows like a model home and the loving care provided by the owners is evident in the beautiful hardwood floors and furnishings. The house is right on the water, and the large windows fill the home with light, enticing the residents to enjoy the lovely decks. We enjoyed the upper decks in the morning when the sun was rising, and the lower deck when we needed shade. The owners made the registration process a breeze; emailed us about special events in the area, and promptly returned the deposit. We will most definitely be returning to this home -- it's perfect for kayaking, bicycling, and just enjoying nature. Thank you so much for sharing your home!
I must agree with some of the the reviewers who said that the photo's on this website do not do the house justice. We expected something nice from the pics, but we were amazed at the stunning beauty of this lovely beach home. Quite new and emmaculate. My teenage kids were in awe, and said it was the best rental house we ever stayed in. It has a beautiful open, airy floor plan, and a simple, relaxing decor. It is situated on the end of a quiet beach road, on a nice secluded little corner of the beach.
The beach was quiet and peaceful, with dramatic tidal changes. It was lovely for walking, sitting and relaxing with your toes in the water (beach chairs provided by owners), and exploring and observing the coastal nature. My kids were particularly fascinated by the horseshoe crabs, and spent many hours watching them and then looking up all they could learn about them.
The decks are wonderful, for having meals, drinks, or just sitting with coffee or a book outside, with the ambiance of soothing wave sounds lulling you nearby, and for watching the glorious sunrise over the water each morning. The Purple Martin house just off the deck also provided adorable avian entertainment.
We bought bikes with us, and biked around the quiet little neighborhood. There is not a lot of biking just in the town, but I think there are bike trails you can go to (i.e. one near Rehoboth), if you want to lug your bikes over there (we were too lazy for that).
The bay beach was not so good for swimming (though I did venture in on a "floatie", my teens wouldn't do so). But if you drive 30 or 40 min down the coast to the ocean beaches there is great swimming and playing in the waves. We went to Cape Henlopen State Park, which was very nice. You can also go further down for more touristy beach stuff (such as Rehoboth, boardwalk, etc.), if you are so inclined (we weren't).
We did not find going over to Dover for supplies to be a hardship at all (as someone mentioned). It was an easy 15 min drive. But maybe it depends what you are used to. Where we live, we are used to a 15 min drive to get to anything.
There are quite a few games in the house, and we did play many of them. All in all It was a very relaxing, enjoyable vacation, and I thank Mary and Steve for allowing us this lovely week in their home.
although we were unable to make our vacation week at this lovely home, the owners were very accommodating and flexible! we hope to be there next year...thanks mary and steve
The owners opened up their house to me and my family on short notice for a 4 day weekend even though they only rent for a 6 day minimum. The house has all the amenities, two refrigerators, plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, 3 decks to choose from, beautiful view, and its in a very peaceful area. I got the chance to witness a coast guard rescue right off the beach. My family and I went to jp wharfs and frederica pizza for dinner. We also stopped at the local produce stand for fresh peaches, nectarines, plums and berries from Delaware. I would highly recommend this place and will go there again.
