Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 5)

Tucked away on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, this traditional, stone built detached cottage is situated on the owner’s smallholding and licensed tea shop (open Mar-Sept) at High Paradise Farm. Home-cooked evening meals are available by arrangement. A truly tranquil setting, and as the name suggests, this is certainly a paradise for walkers and cyclists. The cottage is situated at the end of a long, single track lane which is not for the faint-hearted, but definitely worth it to reach this idyllic rural location. A perfect holiday base with numerous tracks and trails from the doorstep, and the Cleveland Way and the Paradise Loop close by. An 8 mile scenic drive leads to the delightful market town of Helmsley, with its castle ruins, Walled Gardens and Northern International Centre of Birds of Prey at Duncombe Park. Around the bustling square with its ancient cross are an interesting mix of quaint and individual shops, cosy pubs, charming teashops and fine dining restaurants, and the open-air swimming pool offers endless fun throughout the summer months. Thirsk, 7 miles, is renowned for its racecourse and connections with the famous vet James Herriott and the World Heritage site of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal is just a 40-minute drive away. For those seeking adventure, visit the gliding club at Sutton Bank and Yorkshire Outdoors at Felixkirk for off road driving. There is a wealth of history in this area, with abbey ruins at Rievaulx and Byland, and historic houses at Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall. Easily accessible are the coastal towns of Scarborough and Whitby and the ancient walled city of York with its cobbled streets, magnificent minster and abundance of tourist attractions. Shop 7 miles, pub and restaurant 4 miles.
