The walk down the High Peak Trail towards the Cromford Canal is pleasant and on limited days one can take a ride on the pretty barge. The National Stone Centre, Middleton Top (cycle hire) and Steeple Grange Light Railway are close by, as is Carsington Water for watersports activities, a visitor centre, birdwatching, walking, cycling and a restaurant. The situation of the cottage makes it easy to reach the White and Dark Peak areas as well as its own Derbyshire Dales. Roadside parking nearby on a no through road and in a nearby free car park.
