Jim purchased this house in 2007
My grandparents first moved to Exelend in the early 1900's to farm, and I continue to have family in the area. The land my home is on was once the dairy farm of my great uncle. They moved when the farm was destroyed by a tornado. I always looked forward to going 'up north' as a kid, and still do as an adult. There is something about the natural wonders, the fresh air, clear starry nights, and the clear waters of the lake that make it a relaxing and refreshing change to the hectic world. Someday this will be my retirement home, so it is not just a 'rental property'. It is decorated and maintained as my home.
If you are looking for jet ski's and water parks, this is probably not the place for you. If you are looking to re-connect with your family on vacation on a beautiful little lake, this is the place.
My mother and I stayed several days at this wonderful house. We've been renting different places for years and this was, by far, the most economical, cleanest and well furnished place that we've ever stayed at! The house, grounds and furniture were all in excellent shape! The lake is great for fishing, boating, paddle boating and swimming. My elderly Golden Retriever swam every day and my Shetland Sheepdog puppy loved the yard for running and playing. It was peaceful and quiet which is exactly what we were looking for; however, there are several 'tourist' towns within 50 miles if you want to go out for the day or find a tasty restaurant. We especially enjoyed listening to the loons and watching the local geese family on the lake. The sunsets are also amazing! We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Windfall Lake retreat and plan on visiting it again in the future!

This is an awesome property. Beautifully clean and everything looks new! It has all that you need. Full kitchen, nice bedrooms, three bathrooms, wifi and satellite! The house is spacious and both the front and back yard is large. Right on the lakeshore with a beautiful view from the back deck. And we could bring our dog! Although you have neighbors, it is private. We stayed in the Fall so we didn't go on the lake but it looked like a nice, enjoyable lake. We spent most of our time on the ATV trails. The house is about 20 minutes from the Tuscobia Trail. The trees were changing color, beautiful! The owner was very easy to work with. He responded quickly and provided all information needed. This was a good experience from beginning to end. I can easily recommend this property.
This house was a perfect rental place. Lots of room, beautiful new updates inside, great deck to watch the gorgeous sunsets, huge back yard, nice pier with room to park a boat, large fire pit, outdoor games and more. We practically had the entire lake to ourselves, great for tubing! You can barely even see the neighboring houses and in fact we never heard or saw anyone else outside. Owner was very easy to work with, and very nice. Definitely recommend this spot and look forward to staying here again.
The property is very nice. We didn't have any problems or disappointments. The lake and beach were nice. You can't see the beach very good in the pictures with the description, but it extends out from the water about 10 ft with sand and pebbles. The water does not drop off rapidly, we were able to swim with the kids just fine.
Only 1 mile from the Chippewa river, located near the tourist areas of Birchwood and Hayward you can find everything you’re looking for: ATV and Snowmobile trails, Snow Ski, Water Ski, Fish, Swim, Boat, Canoe, Bird watch, Nature watch, Sunset watch, Hike, Bike, Hunt, Museums, Casino, Shopping & Dining.
