This is a picture of us in one of many local pubs. We also live in Goosey so we're close by to help! We have 3 children, couple of ponies, dogs, cat and chickens. Marcus is a racing journalist and I (Amber) look after Longacre, sell upholstered furniture and I'm a full time Mum etc. Amber Armytage, who runs Longacre, is a mother of three and lives just across the green.
Amber purchased this House in 2014
Why Amber chose Faringdon
This property is the perfect property for a friends (not stags or hens though!) and family get together because it's spacious and sleep 13 in beds plus a zed bed. Longacre is in the most beautiful part of England with the benefit of being an hour and a half from London by car (depending on time of day) 50 mins by train. Goosey is close to many historical towns with many other great attractions, please see the website: www.holidayletoxfordshire.co.uk.
What makes this House unique
If you're into riding there is a riding school in Goosey called Asti. Longacre is the perfect place for a family and friends get together. It is close to the Uffington White Horse, the Ridgeway, the Cotswolds and the upper reaches of the Thames. All this and only 80 miles from central London. The Roman towns of Cirencester, Bath and Cheltenham are all within an hour. Only 25 minutes from Oxford and smaller market towns of Wantage and Faringdon (10 minutes) while Stanford-in-the-Vale is even closer. Super house and great location
Our family had a wonderful get together at Longacre. The house is well equipped, the welcome super - biscuits and flowers added a great touch. There was plenty of room for all of us, 3 generations of a family. The garden was spacious for children and their dog. We had lovely walks from the house which was pleasant after our long drives from home. I had been in contact with Amber a few times and this was really helpful in preparation for the stay. We hope to come back again another year!
Thank you very much for leaving a lovely review and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
A GREAT LOCATION FOR FAMILIES
Longacre is an excellent property for a family gettogether. We liked the layout of kitchen, dining area, and outside seating/eating area and the large lawn for family games.
Our limited computer skills meant we had difficulty with the Homeaway systems. eg I wanted to contact the owner to thank her but could not work out how!!
The house was easy to settle in and relax, although we were a little disappointed with quality and quantity of basic equipment, there were however lots of extra nice touches.
Great space to visit - loved the area and kids enjoyed their space!
Family get together
Lovely stay at the property. Plenty of space. Beautiful garden. Perfect location for a relaxing break. Would definitely come again.
Very nice and well maintained property, the whole family thoroughly enjoyed the stay and the tranquility of the area.
Excellent holiday home and lovely location
The house was spacious, well equipped and very clean and tidy. It was particularly good to have a large garden not only for the children but also for the adults to enjoy. We all thoroughly enjoyed our long week end at Longacre.
Thank you very much! See you soon! Amber
An ideal holiday let in Oxfordshire
Longacre is the perfect place for a family and friends get together. It is close to the Uffington White Horse, the Ridgeway, the Cotswolds, the upper reaches of the Thames. All this and only 80 miles from central London. The Roman towns of Cirencester, Bath and Cheltenham are all within an hour.
Only 20 minutes from Oxford
Not so long ago there were seven working farms located around the green and although the dairy cows which once roamed it are no longer there it remains very rural. It has easy access to Oxford (20 minutes) and the smaller market towns of Wantage and Faringdon (10 minutes) while Stanford-in-the-Vale is even closer. See more information in the Local Area page.
Goosey is in the middle of what is known locally as the Vale of the White Horse, an area to the north of the racing centre of Lambourn, its surrounding downland and the Ridgeway, the ancient track which runs 87 miles from Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire to Avebury in Wiltshire. This national trail is popular with walkers, runners, riders and off-road cyclists.
The county capital Oxford, “the city of dreaming spires” is only 20 minutes away. It boasts numerous theatres, museums, historic university buildings, a covered market and activities such as punting on the river Cherwell.
Five miles west of Oxford is Blenheim Palace in the small Cotswold town of Woodstock, a stunning home given to the 1st Duke of Marlborough by the nation after his victory in the battle of Blenheim 1704. It was also the birth place of Sir Winston Churchill and he is buried in the next door village.
Bampton is a village just north of the Thames. It is best known for the church scenes in Downton Abbey though the locals play it down. Highclere Castle, where the bulk of the series is filmed is half an hour away.
The Cotswold Wildlife Park
The Cotswold Wildlife Park, particularly popular with children is 25 minutes away by the stunning historical town of Burford (My Grandparents went there on honeymoon).
Lambourn houses over 1000 racehorses and is characterised by large areas of open grassland gallops. The 2015 Grand National winner Many Clouds is trained there as well as the highest rated chasers of modern times Sprinter Sacre, whilst the winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup 2015 is trained in the next door village, Letcombe Bassett.
If you enjoy a little retail therapy there’s Bicester Village half an hour away.
During the summer Giffords a magical village green circus, tours much of the locality, I couldn’t recommend it highly enough is you’re staying for any length of time but book early to avoid disappointment.
Wantage is small market town (5 miles from Goosey), which has a market every Wednesday and Saturday and other supermarkets and shops. It’s where King Alfred (849) and Lester Piggott (widely regarded as one of the greatest flat racing jockeys of all time) were both born. A statue of King Alfred stands in the centre of the market square - there is not one of Lester yet....
Faringdon is also a small market town (4 miles from Goosey). Faringdon stands on a hill overlooking the Thames. The Folly, a prominent tower, can be seen for miles around particularly at Christmas when it is lit up. Market day is every Tuesday with a Farmers' market on the first Tuesday in every month.
