|Minimum Stay||6 - 7 nights|
From this private, 2 story home located on the Kailua end of Kaneohe above Kaneohe Bay (it's an easy 8 minute drive to Kailua town and beach, a few minutes more to Lanikai beach, and less than 15 minutes to Kaneohe town), you'll have PANORAMIC POSTCARD VIEWS from nearly every room -- sailboats on the bay (the weekly races provide a colorful show of spinnakers), the sandbar in the distance (location of scenes in the movie '50 First Dates'), and the Ko'olau mountains as the backdrop.
You can sit on the front deck and gaze at Coconut Island, reading about its fascinating history--not only was it used for shots of 'Gilligan's Island,' but it once hosted presidents, actors and royalty, and military service members on R and R, and now serves as an important marine research facility. Or, you can watch for visiting yachts or other vessels -- with the filming of 'Pirates of the Caribbean 4' in the bay, the view from the deck included a pirate ship!
The home is cooled by HILLTOP BREEZES and ceiling fans and is fully furnished with all linens and full kitchen amenities, plus extra cooking items (blender, rice cooker, coffee grinder, electric kettle, crock pot, mini food chopper, waffle iron, Foreman grill, spices). We also provide body boards, snorkeling gear, beach towels, coolers, beach umbrella, sand toys, and beach chairs.
There is 1 bedroom downstairs, plus a tub and shower bathroom; there are 3 bedrooms upstairs, plus a shower-only bathroom. Toilet is separate from the sink/shower, and has its own door off the hallway.
Also included: wireless internet access, flat screen televisions, a full-size foosball table, books and board games. To help with your choice of activities, we provide brochures, maps and local menus. The indoor dining table accommodates six; there are also 2 counter chairs and outdoor chairs plus table on the lanai.
In 6 minutes you can drive to world-renown KAILUA BEACH, where, in addition to swimming, you can enjoy activities like body boarding, surfing, kayaking, windsurfing, and kite-boarding. A few minutes beyond Kailua beach is LANIKAI BEACH, also voted as one of the country's best. There are several nearby golf courses, both public and private (including Koolau, one of the country's most challenging and most beautiful).
MILITARY guests will appreciate the short 5 minute drive to the Kaneohe Marine Base and its commissary, exchange, and private beach.
For 'big city' action, you can get to HONOLULU or WAIKIKI in about 25 minutes, or you can access the nearby H-3 onramp to head toward Pearl Harbor, the Aloha Stadium swap meet, or the airport (20 minutes away). Kaneohe town (home of Windward Mall) is about 12 minutes away. Continue past Kaneohe and you'll be on a scenic drive to Kualoa Beach Park, or beyond to the north shore and its famous beaches. Or, if you prefer to just relax, you can sit on the lanai with a good book and spend your day enjoying the view.
We look forward to welcoming you to our hale with a basket of Hawaiian coffee and local treats. Don't forget your camera!
Special Note: ***The paved driveway up to the house is steep -- the reward is the view! Driveway is not suitable for trucks, and we recommend cars and SUVS over vans.
Another special note ** While we want you to enjoy the house and its decks and views, we do request that you show aloha to our neighbors on the street below by refraining from loud, late partying on the decks at night**
(Please note: We don't allow smoking or pets in the house)

I'm so happy because ocean view from here is fantastic! It was No. 1 view in my life. We thank you for your kindness. ~ Yumiko
We spent happy happy time at your house. It is so comfortable. MAHALO!!!! ~ Mariko
I needed to find suitable housing for my family of 7 (two parents, four adult children + one son-in-law), who were all flying over for a combined vacation and a family reunion (my mom lives in Kaneohe). After doing a lot of research into various options and locations, I selected "Hillside Haven," and I am glad that I did! The house itself was only 5 minutes away from my mom's house, but it is also served as a convenient hub to travel to all of the other tourist/sight-seeing activities that we selected to do (ie, Hanauma Bay, Polynesian Cultural Center, Kailua Beach, Aloha Stadium Swap Meet, etc). Although there were a total of 7 in the house, there was enough room where we could all spread out and still have our privacy if we wanted it. Our favorite places to congregate were the front deck, the living room and the dining room.
From the beginning, communication with the owners (Bill and Joyce) was excellent, and they proved to be very helpful and trustworthy. Everything described about the house is accurate, and has almost all of the comforts of home (with the exception of a dishwasher & A/C). To save $ on food/having to eat out, we stopped by Costco on the way over from the airport and stocked up on basic staples such as bottled water, coffee, bread, milk, eggs and frozen stuff. The Safeway store located less than 5 minutes away also proved to be very convenient. The kitchen is well-stocked with appliances, utensils and condiments, and we were able to make good use of both the kitchen and gas BBQ to cook most of our meals. And because we knew beforehand that we would have access to a washer & dryer, we did not have to pack as many clothes. We also made good use of the beach gear that is supplied with the house (umbrella, chairs, towels and snorkeling gear).
The view from the front porch is spectacular, and was our favorite place to congregate in the morning to start the day and eat breakfast. We were entertained by the geckos/chameleons that visited us every morning.
If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful place to hang out and spend some quality time together, this is the place for you! The house is located at the very top of a hill at the end of a street that contains some very nice homes. There is very little human-generated noise - the most noise we heard was generated by the birds in the morning (LOL!).
I would highly recommend this property, and would not hesitate to rent it again should we travel to Oahu in the future.
We took our family of six to the Island over Easter Break....our four teens had enough room to be "teens" in this house with a beautiful view. The great place to stay to get any where on the Island. Seems one is always going in the opposite direction of the traffic. The house is clean and very well kept, with lots of towels and a well stocked kitchen. The Chandler's are very thoughtful host. We loved the welcome basket of local fruit and coffee. The drive up the hill is steep....but we walked it a couple of times and found that more of a challenge than in the car......
We do hope to return one day and highly recommend THIS Great Place to stay.
We found this house to be a perfect fit for our party (4 adults/1 teen). The owners, Bill & Joyce, were easy to reach and made us feel at home as soon as we met them. I think they've done a wonderful job describing the property and all it has to offer. That's saying something because there really is no way to accurately describe the view or privacy this locale has to offer. This location is ideal for those who don't want to deal with the hustle & bustle of Honolulu. We had no trouble at all exploring the entire island during our stay. We made trips to the Kualoa Ranch, the North Shore, Waikiki, Pearl Harbor and Hanauma Bay. It was nice to know that we had a great place to relax and enjoy the view at the end of the day. We would love to visit it again someday and would recommend it to our friends & family.
We had 5 adults and 3 teenagers. Bill and Joyce were so accommodating! They set up the beds perfectly for us. From the moment we walked onto the porch and took in the view, we knew it was going to be the perfect vacation. The peacefulness of the neighborhood allowed us to easily relax. We had all been to Hawaii more than 10 times and this visit was by far the most enjoyable.
We woke up in the morning, had everything we needed to make breakfast and enjoyed it outside on the porch. Then, we went to take in all that Oahu has to offer (Bill and Joyce had a handy folder with suggestions) and came home to have a full kitchen to prepare dinner and eat outside with the view, fresh air and calm of Kaneohe. We even had access to a large barbeque that we could use while taking in the view with a cold bottle of beer. Safeway was less than 5 minutes away for our groceries.
The property also had a lot of the items that are too bulky to pack, but are critical for enjoying the water in Hawaii (boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrellas, beach towels, etc.)
We will definitely try to get this place again for our next visit to Oahu.
There were four adults and two children in our party, and this house was a perfect size. The view is so much better than being in a hotel room, even if the hotel was on the beach. The whole front of the house is basically windows; there were times we just wanted to lounge around and enjoy the view. It is very close to a child friendly beach. Many great restaurants are near. Bill and Joyce, who live next door, have a book full of restaurant info, as well as what to do on the island. They have some snorkeling equipment, beach shoes, and boogie boards, as well as beach towels. It has a very steep drive, but worth the little extra oomph needed from your vehicle.
We had a great experience! The owners, Bill & Joyce were very kind and took the time to show us around in our first day. Although we did not see them again until our last day,
they made sure we were settled and comfortable. The best part of every morning was the view from the front porch! We were able to utilize the kitchen fully and the bedrooms were
nice and cozy. We traveled to many places during our vacation and we had a very nice place to return to at the end of each day.
The house is just minutes from one of the country's most highly-rated and most beautiful golf courses -- Ko'olau -- and is also near the Pali, Bayview, Olomana, MidPac and Royal Hawaiian Golf Club golf courses.
