The two bedroom one bath, Mediterranean Cottage on First Street is listed in the historic register. This beautiful home has been fully restored to its original elegance. The entire house is appointed with furnishing and fixtures from the 1930's.

Enter this stunning residence through the garden courtyard bordered with potted plants and feel immediately at home. The formal living will welcome you with the sophistication of Persian rugs, built in shelves with books for your perusal, inviting fireplace, writing desk and comfortable sitting area. Continue through the French doors to the formal dining room that is certain to stimulate your appetite. Enjoy a bottle of wine in the garden over a game of Bocce Ball!

Take a short walk up First Street to the heart of the downtown where restaurants, wine tasting rooms and shops abound. St. Helena Hwy is just a few blocks away and will take you to any of the vineyards and wineries you have dreamed of.

The charming, refurbished kitchen, with its sunny breakfast room, is the perfect place to take pleasure in your morning coffee or afternoon tea. The bedrooms are tastefully furnished, one with Mediterranean style furniture and Adra’s dressing table, the other with Art Deco Waterfall furniture. A wonderful night’s sleep awaits you in these dreamy beds, complete with fine linens.

Let the last bit of stress melt away while you soak in the deep, cast iron tub. Admire the skillfully tiled floor and craftsmanship of a time past.

Beautiful historic home! Perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

The Massa Casa was adorable! So charming and comfortable. It was our first time staying in Napa and we enjoyed being able to walk and explore the town. The owners were very quick to help! Visit the Oxbow Public Market--it's a perfect morning walk to get coffee.

Charming house / Unaccommodating property manager

  • 3 of 5

Overall, the house was fine. The location was good, and if you're enamored by the 1930's art deco, this is the house for you-- lighting fixtures, furniture, bathroom tile, etc., all created an authentic look. However, the 1930's mirrors and light fixtures did make it a challenge to do one's makeup. If you battle allergies, you'll struggle here. The basement is damp, and although the owner has both a door and dehumidifier between the basement entrance and the house to combat the problem, the damp smell remains. I've been home for two days and have realized that I need to launder even my clean clothes because they smell like that house. The garden is pretty and well maintained, but outside seating is limited, and the chairs by the bocce court were broken. The bath towels were dark brown (and could have benefited from a good bleaching), but the sheets were of high quality and the beds were comfortable.

Most notable for us was the rude interaction with the property manager. We contacted him to ask if we could leave our luggage at the house past check-out because our friend (who was also our transportation) had to return to work in San Jose on our last day, and we had hoped to just pack up, leave our bags, and spend the day walking around downtown Napa before going to the airport. To be honest, I had really expected him to say "sure," since the property wasn't going to be re-occupied for the next 3 days. His response was quite the contrary. He informed me that I should have "reserved a full service hotel rather than a house!!!" and that he was "not responsible for [my] items after check-out!" The negative interaction magnified the house's flaws, which is a shame because despite the dampness, the house really was charming and convenient.

Owner's Response: Dear Traveller, It is easy to read between the lines here and realize this note was written in spite since Alison was told "no" in response to her special request. It is unsettling to read, first hand, that we have created a society where someone would label another as rude if they do not receive the response they desire. Wow!! As any rental home owner, hotel, B&B, etc, etc would agree, we are not responsible for your belongings, and Yes, if you require storage for your personal items after check-out time, it would be prudent rent a facility that provides this type of amenity. Check out time is 11am, and in this particular instance a red-eye flight scheduled. I rest my case! We have a guestbook in the living room full of handwritten, cheerful opinions from past guests who love the simple charm and history of this beautiful home as well as a long list of repeat guests who visit year after year. Cheers and Happy Travels! Jason Podsednik Property Manager

The perfect property

  • 5 of 5

This adorable home was the perfect landing spot for three out of state girlfriends. We enjoyed the front patio, slept soo well, and walked to the downtown for dinner each evening. It was really easy to find and access, and was spotless and comfy! I highly recommend the charm of the 1930s kitchen, breakfast room, and the gardens are beautiful! I wandered through them each morning! Well done owners! Thumbs up!

Very nice, ......, but....

  • 4 of 5

The property was immaculately prepared and detailed as a 1935 movie set. Very cool.

However, the televisions were about the size of the screen on my laptop computer. We don't watch a lot of television, but we like the news, we were there for almost one week. It was an irritation.

Secondly, there was a humidifier, or something like that in the anteroom between the kitchen and basement/exit, that was very noisy and interrupted our sleep occasionally.

All in all, it was worth it, and we enjoyed our stay.

Roger
