Overview

About the property

3 BRs & 3 full baths; rec room with pool table, piano & futon; sleeps 8+

This unique home, built in 1990 for its owners, is nestled in a very private woodsy setting. You'll love the deck & patio out back (without pesky mosquitoes--the SkeeterEater really works), the pond in front, and gardens, birds and fireflies all around. You're just a little over a mile from Route 1 but you'll never know it. Great place to relax at the end of a busy day exploring Maine's mid-coast area. Perfect for extended families or 3-4 couples. It boasts a full-sized slate pool table, 2 libraries, and a piano. Musicians built this house so there is sound in almost every room and thousands of CDs to enjoy. Large fully-equipped kitchen; the beds are new and comfy. In Autumn, the sugar maples around the home explode in crimson, orange and yellow.

Great stay at Freedom Song

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this great house. It well kept and very clean. This house had everything we needed. Becki and Joan gave us excellent recommendations as far as places to go and eat. I was a little doubtful about being bug free in the back patio, but I was pleasantly surprised. We sat out there with no bugs. I would highly recommend staying here, especially if you have 4 to 8 people.

A lovely family home in the woods!

  • 5 of 5

We came to Maine to visit with our oldest daughter's future in-laws and needed a large space for our big family, our dog, and entertaining other new family members. This house was absolutely wonderful with a well-appointed kitchen and plenty of space for people to sit and eat as well as bunk down at night. The yard and grounds are beautiful and natural--the younger set had a blast down by the pond, catching and releasing frogs, and the grown-ups loved having morning coffee with the birds at the bird-feeders. We were within a 30-minute drive of plenty of attractions--the aquarium at Boothbay was a huge hit, as was Pemaquid Point, Porter's Reserve, and the Maine State Museum in Augusta.

Our only desire to make this house even more perfect would be more outdoor entertaining furniture. We so enjoyed the table and chairs on the patio, but would have liked more seating outdoors for a larger group, as well as deck chairs on the smaller decks around the house. The turtle pond waterfall wasn't operating properly while we were there, but I know that would have been the highlight of the house had it been. Hopefully if we come back next summer we'll get to see it in action!

One last thing--as you can imagine in a house built by musicians, the acoustics are fabulous. My daughters are all singers and had the most amazing time singing in different areas of the house. The spot at the top of the stairs was a particular favorite!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much, Tawnia, for your kind words and great suggestion to add more chairs on the decks. We think our patio is a bit too small to accommodate larger furniture but I will happily look into options. As for the fountain, we too are saddened by its misbehavior and are working to correct the pump issues. It is indeed a centerpiece when it is happily operational!

This house is perfect for family.

  • 5 of 5

We were a bit apprehensive when renting this house; would it be as the pictures portrayed it, well it was better than expected. The house is a large three bedroom with a fully equipped kitchen and room for 8 to dine in comfort. It's location in the charming town of Wiscasset is a plus. We hosted two different family groups and both enjoyed the house and gardens. Having three full bathrooms, all with showers (and one with a bathtub) made it a breeze for everyone to get ready in the morning. We spent our days exploring the Maine coast; the Booth Bay Botanical Gardens are not to be missed. The lobster rolls at Red's in Wiscasset are the best, they live up to all the hype. After a long day out, it was a pleasure to return to the comforts of Freedom Song House. If you need a large house in a quite and peaceful setting, don't hesitate to book with these very accommodating hosts.

Great Get Away

  • 5 of 5

The house was unique in design, and beautiful! We decided to vacation a little bit on our own before the rest of my sons wedding party arrived. It was perfect for all of us. Plenty of room for everyone at the dinner table when we had dinner at the house before decorating the hall. 3 full nice bathrooms! Again another plus! Thankfully we had the "boys" at the house! We would definitely love to come back in the future!

A Beautiful and Restful House

  • 5 of 5

We last stayed in Freedom Song House in July 2014 and liked it so much we came back this year. We come from the UK and can say it's well worth coming the 2,500 miles to holiday here. We wrote a review back in July 2014 and all the positive things about this house remain. If anything it seems to have got better! It's a beautiful house, so much room, so well cared-for and so peaceful. It's almost incredible when you are in it to think that you are literally 3 or 4 minutes drive away from Route 1 which takes you to so many of Eastern Maine's attractions. The house is in a huge and attractive plot and is completely secure and private, so you get a real feeling of peace and seclusion. The wildlife in the gardens is great, especially the birds, and we were lucky enough to be there this year as a mother wild turkey was showing her new-born chicks around. The house itself is excellently equipped, with an enormous CD/vinyl collection for you to use, and the full-size pool table in the games room. Becki is the nicest and most helpful owner you could wish for, and makes everything so straightforward. We have stayed here twice now, and seem sure to be back again. Without doubt this is a place to rent with confidence and we'd recommend it to anyone without hesitation.
