A lover of all things beautiful especially homes and furnishings I have owned and operated Random Harvest, a high end home furnishings business in the NYC and Dc area for over 30 years.
The Owner purchased this house in 2001
We searched for years to find the right combination of easy to get to and that peaceful feeling of knowing you are truly away from it all. This property had unsurpassed views in literally every direction with total privacy. Alas the house was a mess but with such great bones we could not help to want to bring it beyond what it had become.
10 of us held a 3day yoga retreat at this beautiful property. We did our morning practice on the deck which easily accommodated our 10 yoga mats. The owners have thought of every detail: pool noodles aplenty, comfortable indoor and outdoor furniture that is easily shifted around (to make room for yoga mats, natch) , pool towels, clear instructions to check in and out, a roomy pantry for food storage and a great kitchen which allowed 10 food- fussy yogis to gather and prepare their meals. We'll definitely be back with our yoga mats! Check-out is 6 pm Sunday and we were still in the hot tub at 4:30....
Our non-profit hosted our annual retreat at this home and loved every minute of it. The property is spacious both inside and out! Everyone loved the goats and donkeys on the farms and the scenic landscape was a breath of fresh air for us city dwellers. The kitchen was excellent, well equipped, and provided plenty of room for us to cook for our large group. Highly recommend this beautiful property!
We recently rented this property as a place to stay for my daughter's wedding party. It was absolutely fabulous in every way! The property is gorgeous--private and beautifully maintained, with a very enticing pool! It is well-equipped, from kitchen equipment to games. It is beautifully furnished. The grounds are spacious. The house easily and comfortably accommodated our party of 14 people. The owner is responsive and pleasant. I recommend it highly!
My family and I truly enjoyed our stay at Thoroughfare. I went with my 4 married children and 6 grandchildren ranging in ages 3 to 14. There was something for all of them to do. Originally we had planned several side trips, however, everyone felt so relaxed and loved the farm I could not get them to go anywhere, we did pick blueberries on day. My daughters said they preferred the farm to the beach since there were no toys, umbrellas, chairs and stuff to lug around, all we needed was provided.
My business partner and I hosted a women's leadership retreat at Thoroughfare and it was even better than I imagined. We gathered in the spacious family room for trainings and dined at the large dinner table for meals. We also enjoyed fresh eggs, lounging by the pool and I even did a workout in the den using the DVD player! There was so much space for everyone and we just had an amazing time.
We had a fantastic time at Thoroughfare Farm. I booked it for a milestone birthday celebration and invited my parents, siblings and families. The house is beautiful and spacious. The kitchen is well equipped and has plenty of room for preparing, serving, and just visiting. Visiting the animals was a lot of fun for everybody. The hot tub was a great place to end the evening. All the rooms are big and comfortable. We drove up to Skyline Drive for a day hike to the South River Falls, and just had a great hike. Several wineries are very close, but just hanging out in the property was a lot of fun. The location too was convenient from the DC area and from North Carolina. The owner was very responsive and helpful to any inquires. I highly recommend it, and will probably come back again with my family.
