Biggin Grange is owned by Richard & Jane Henry and we moved up to Derbyshire in 1993 from London. We bought Biggin Grange in 2000 and have extensively restored the house, outbuildings and farm. It is a fabulous home to bring up our 3 children and we are surrounded by over 100 acres of fields. Our black Labrador, Otto, together with ponies, a donkey called Guinness, chickens and ducks have plenty of space to amuse themselves. The property is steeped in history as the Garendon Abbey in Leicestershire owned the Grange and it dates back to 1209. It is Grade II listed and there are many significant archaeological features on the property. We rent the land to a neighbouring farmer who has beef cattle and sheep over the fields. We adore this stunning area and hope you do too!
Jane Henry purchased this cottage in 2000
Biggin Grange is a perfect place to visit as it is surrounded by acres of land with amazing views so you really get a feeling of being away from it all. But at the same time it is really convenient being close to Ashbourne and the nearby villages of Biggin and Hartington. London is only 1 hr 30 mins away on the train from Derby and Manchester is 1 hr drive away.
Living within the Peak District National Park is incredibly special and it is only when we have been away do we fully appreciate the unspoilt beauty of Derbyshire.
Superb holiday accommodation - worth every penny. The bedroom in particular is great - absolutely huge. The wood burner in the lounge area is perfect for keeping warm on a cold winter evening. The location is excellent - lovely walks on the doorstep, and Hartington, which has a great pub and a couple of shops, is just a couple of miles away.
Lovely and well maintained property perfectly located in walking distance to trails and the neighboring village of Hartington. Had a wonderful stay and felt very welcomed by our host Jane.
Lovely cosy cottage that made us feel at home from the start. The welcome brownies were also a delightful treat! Impressed by the breathtaking views and the standard of the cottage
We loved staying at the Old Farrowings. The place has been very tastefully converted with the highest level of decor. Especially liked the tiles in the bathroom and the spacious bedroom with the high ceiling. The whole site is incredibly well maintained, clean and tidy. We only had a couple of days unfortunately but managed to pack in a few activities : cycling, walking and eating at the local pub. The location is excellent with the Tissington trail and the village of Hartington a short distance away and a very good pub only 15 mins walk across fields. Jane was extremely helpful and has thought of everything you could possibly need. Brownies were delicious too - thank you!
The cottage was beautiful and just as described. We went for a quiet getaway and that's exactly what we got. With the beautiful views from the patio area and the silence it was a fantastic break. The log burner kept us lovely and warm. The homemade chocolate brownies left for us was a lovely touch and were so nice we ate them in minutes. Overall a wonderful weekend and would definitely stay there again.
The cottage is exactly as described; cosy, comfortable, vast bedroom and bathroom, well equipped, peaceful and very private in an idyllic location. Warm welcome with delicious brownies - thank you, Jane. Efficient log burner, beautiful views, immaculate grounds and live entertainment from adorable runner ducks. We look forward to returning.
