Beautiful walks from the door, glorious views, sleeps 6, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms

Wainwright, considered to be the expert on the Lake District fells, loved Borrowdale, and Grange is at its heart. Grange Fell Cottage, the end cottage of a row of three, flanks one side of the original village centre, with the green immediately outside the front door.

We have reduced our prices to accommodate for the service charge that Owners Direct have added.

The cottage is comfortably furnished and well-equipped throughout, whilst the stunning views from every window of traditional Lakeland buildings - a church, a barn, a cottage - with the fells as backdrop, take your breath away. It is the perfect base for a walking or activity holiday, whether it be messing about on Derwentwater, or challenging your stamina at one of the local activity centres. The Derwent River, a stone's throw from the cottage, is ideal for paddling.

The lounge has seating for six across two settees and a beanbag that is large enough to sink into!. Snuggling up in front of the woodburner watching the TV/DVD, playing games, listening to music or reading a book is the perfect end to a day out on the fells. A selection of DVDs are provided, including the BBC TV series about Wainwright's walks, as well as music CDs. Plenty of books, including Julia Bradbury's book that accompanies the BBC series and other books about Wainwright, as well as Hugh Walpole's 'Rogue Herries' series, which are set around Borrowdale, are provided. Games such as Cluedo, Scrabble and Pictionary, as well as jigsaws, are provided for those days when keeping warm and dry might be preferable to venturing out on the fells!

The kitchen has the usual facilities such as a coffee maker and microwave as well as all the cutlery, crockery and equipment to feed the hungriest teenager! To make mealtimes a bit easier, a dishwasher does the hard work for you. .A washer/dryer is provided, essential for those wet days when you have been watching the waterfalls at their most spectacular! Six fit comfortably around the solid wood table, and there is a high chair and booster seat so that the little ones don't miss out on the fun! An ordnance survey map centred on Grange Fell Cottage hangs on the wall so that you can look to see where you have been that day or rehearse tomorrow's activity.

The cottage benefits from two bathrooms and a cloakroom, so no queues in the morning!. The family bathroom has a bath with shower over, whilst the ensuite to the master bedroom has a walk-in shower. Both the family bathroom and the ensuite have heated towel rails to keep your towels toasty warm! The double bed has a king size duvet, and blankets are provided to keep you warm on those colder nights. A hairdryer is also provided. Two further spacious bedrooms each have twin beds; one is a loft conversion and enjoys superlative views. Both twin bedrooms have two comfortable tub chairs so that you can enjoy a quiet chat or just sit and soak in the views. The beds are of course made up for you before you arrive. For young guests, a travel cot, potty, trainer seat and step-up stool are provided, whilst a stair gate helps to keep them safe.

The cottage has a porch at the front and back - plenty of room to store boots, cagoules and walking gear. Outside the front is an enclosed area within a traditional dry stone wall. Admiring the view as you enjoy breakfast around the patio table is the best way to soak up the sunshine in the peaceful beauty of the morning. The cottage has two parking spaces, and secure storage is provided for bikes.

WiFi connection means that the outside world need not be completely lost. Phone connection is possible in the cottage, depending on your provider. A landline phone is provided for incoming and emergency calls for your safety. An iron and ironing board is provided. Heating is by night storage heaters. Several oil filled radiators are also provided for when a little top-up might be needed, whilst hot water bottles ensure that you are warm at night! Please bring your own towels. It is possible to hire towels at £5 per person (one bath and one hand towel). If you would like to hire towels please advise when booking. One small to medium sized dog is welcome. Changeover day is Friday, and short breaks are available out of high season. A welcome pack greets you with all the basics to start the week: tea and coffee, toilet rolls, washing machine and dishwasher tablets, and a dishcloth, A comprehensive Welcome Book tells you nearly everything you could possibly want to know about the area!

Grange itself has two cafes and is known for its double-arched bridge. Grange was loved by poets such as Wordsworth and Southey, as well as artists such as Turner and Heaton Cooper. You can walk for miles in any direction from the front door. East takes you up Grange Fell (after which the cottage is named) and towards the idyllic hamlet of Watendlath. South penetrates further into the hamlets of Borrowdale, or the great fells of Scafell, Great Gable and Glaramara. West takes you up Castle Crag or High Spy, whilst the pleasures of Derwentwater’s water activities and cruises lie to the North.

The cottage is ten minutes’ drive from the attractions of Keswick, which include the famous Theatre by the Lake, Wildlife Park, GoApe, cinema, Pencil Museum, brewery, distillery and several Activity Centres, as well as shops, restaurants and a Saturday market.

Jean’s mum grew up in the Lake District, in Little Langdale and Hartsop, a hamlet near Patterdale. She has always felt more at home in the Lakes than anywhere else, and it didn’t take her husband, John, long to feel the same way. With their four children, the family have enjoyed many happy holidays here. We love Grange Fell Cottage and Borrowdale, and we hope that you do too!

Why Jean and John Burden chose England

Borrowdale is spectacular in many ways. Walking, at both low and high level, is superb in any direction, and the views stunning wherever you look. Hamlets nestling in the valleys, or mountain scenery. Derwentwater, offering cruises or water activities, is within easy reach. What we love about this property is that we do not need to use the car, if we want to get away from it all. The bus stops close by, and together with the lake offers transportation to Keswick and Honister or Buttermere.

What makes this cottage unique

When we look for a holiday cottage, we want to find somewhere comfortable and happy - a home from home that we are content to spend lots of time in, especially when the weather can be unpredictable. This cottage ticks all the boxes: the cosy wood burner for those cold, wet evenings, the patio set within the enclosed front garden to sit outside and enjoy the views on those warm, sunny evenings, WiFi, and stunning views from every window. Most of all, what we love about Grange Fell Cottage is that is light and airy; it is truly a delight to spend time there, whatever the weather!

Great cottage in a delightful location

We really liked this cottage. It had everything we needed - it was comfortable, clean and well equipped. The location in Borrowdale is absolutely beautiful with stunning walks from the cottage. It nestles alongside other picturesque cottages, the chapel and a couple of tea and ice-cream shops. Everything was as described and we will definitely be back again.

Lovely cottage in a great location with stunning views

The cottage was in an excellent spot with lovely walks from the door. It looked quite remote in the photos but there were lots of passing walkers and a tea shop close by. The cottage was clean, very comfortable and thoughtfully equipped. We would definitely be happy to stay there again and would highly recommend it

You can walk for miles in any direction from the door, and Grange itself is not so remote that you feel isolated. Grange in Borrowdale is beautiful all year round: the daffodil yellows and sap green of spring; the myriad of greens of summer; the golden yellows and oranges of autumn, and the views through the leafless trees in winter. Stunning location, lovely house.

The property is very well equipped and nicely done out. The location is simply stunning, with views from all sides in the very pretty village of grange. We had a wonderful time, with lots of cold but bright, clear and sunny days and this cottage is in a great position to do things from the door, or is in very easy reach of some of our favourite North Lakes locations.

Would highly recommend the property.

Excellent cottage.

The wood burner was almost impossible to light. Had to use loads of kindling and firelighter, but it still didn't burn well. Had to put the potato peeler back together before it could be used, so could do with a new one. Otherwise everything worked well.

Winter break

The property was warm and welcoming and spotlessly clean. It was well equipped and in a wonderful location. It is much better than it looks on the website. We loved it and look forward to going again.

There are lots of walks on your doorstep and a short drive to pubs and the pretty town of Keswick.

Definitely worth a visit.

Excellent stay in a lovely well equipped property

We spent the Christmas week in the cottage. The cottage is in a lovely and pretty setting. The cottage is modern inside and comes with an amazing amount of equipment. On 3 floors with especially lovely views from the top bedroom

The cottage is in very good order and looks recently refurbished. The kitchen appliances (Bosch) are excellent and the big dining kitchen is a pleasant to cook in and has a large lovely wooden dining table

The cottage comes with a decent WiFi connection but mobile phone signal is very poor (no serbuce on Vodafone) so the provision of a dial in only landline is very useful

We did experience a problem with a leak on the upper bedroom Velux. The maintenance company did their best but a new outer seal was needed so it was not fixed before we left

We want to stay here again and would recommend this property without hesitation

Owner's Response: We are pleased you enjoyed your holiday in Grange Fell Cottage. We have tried to equip it so that it has everything we would like in a holiday cottage. The Velux window has been fixed now. We are glad that you made use of the landline phone for incoming calls and found it helpful. Mobile phone signal is patchy in Borrowdale. O2 works in the cottage, but if you are with some other suppliers you might have to go further afield to make a call (maybe just a few yards). We are told that signal is improving all the time, but we supply the landline for emergency and incoming calls anyway! We understand that Superfast Fibre broadband is coming to this area within the next six months and will update our WiFi connection when it does. We look forward to welcoming you again.
