About the property

Set in the heart of the tiny hamlet of Helstone is our fine, recently renovated, four bedroomed detached granite house with far reaching views of the beautiful Cornish countryside. The outstanding feature of this house and garden, is its space and simplicity, allowing you and your family to relax and feel at home straightaway. There are all the modern appliances: dishwasher, electric oven and gas hob, microwave, washing machine, dryer and fridge freezer, as well as traditional features such as wooden and slate floors that compliment the Aga in the kitchen and wood burning stove in the sitting room. The house is double glazed, and has central heating. The sitting room has a TV and DVD player.

There are 3 double bedrooms (one ensuite with shower) and 1 single bedroom, but plenty of space for additional guests. One of the double rooms benefits from a Juliet balcony from which you can admire the setting sun over the large back garden, across to the North coast.There is a large family sized bathroom with a large bath and shower.

The back garden is large and mostly level lawn, and in sun all day; perfect for ball games or even badminton. There is also a perfectly positioned decked area for you to enjoy a leisurely lunch or evening barbecue. Pets are welcome but please be aware the garden is not fully enclosed. There is ample off road parking for 3 cars.

St. John's View is in the perfect central location for visits to the North coast with the nearest beautiful beach, Trebarwith Strand only 10 mins away, and the wilds of Bodmin Moor to the East with its famous granite tors. The award winning Bowood Golf course is just minutes down the road. Port Isaac of Doc Martin fame, Polzeath, Rock and the ferry to Padstow are all within 20 mins drive. A 20 minute drive Northwards takes you to the Legendary village of Tintagel, and King Arthurs Castle. Incidently, in the Hamlet of Slaughterbridge, near Camelford is the Arthurian Centre, and the Site of the world famous King Arthurs Stone.

Bude, to the North is a lovely little town, with the beautiful sandy beach of Widemouth bay nearby. This beach is very popular with surfers.

The beautiful town of Wadebridge is only 8 miles away. Set on the river Camel, it has an eclectic mix of shops and cafes, and of course, the famous Camel trail. From here you can walk, or rent a bike, and cycle to Padstow in one direction, or to Bodmin in the opposite direction.

Fans of the Poldark series will recognise the area around Padstow, especially the dramatic cliff scenes, and beautiful Porthcothan beach as the fictional 'Nampara Cove'.

All bedding is provided, but guests need to bring their own towels.

Plenty of board games provided.

The Aga is not really needed in the Summer so will be turned off.

When my Cornish wife suggested we move to Cornwall, I didn't need much persuading. We moved here in 1990, and both our children were born here, and are very proud of their Cornish heritage. This is a fantastic family home, and with it's close proximity to beaches and the countryside, was a wonderful place to bring up our children.

Good Base for Touriing

We booked the holiday for 3 adults & one mad spaniel.

The house is of a high quality, every conveniance is available with a great utility room for wet shoes & dogs.

The garden is a lovely place to spend some time in the sunshine. It is not enclosed so take care if you have a dog that likes to wander. But it's a good place to see the stars in the dark skies.

The bedrooms are bright & airy.

As a base for touring north Cornwall it is in lovely quiet hamlet. The nearest beach is 10 mins away, with others within easy reach. We had food delivered but there are shops & garage within 5 mins from the house.

Only negatives were the lack of provision of towels and the garden not being enclosed.

Highly recommended!

I've recently returned from a weeks stay here and thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

The property was in perfect condition, clean and tidy, spacious and in a great location. We were a family of 4 (plus dog) and the location was exactly what we wanted; lovely and peacefull village setting but still within easy reach of many places to see and visit, as well as there being shops, petrol station, restaurants and pubs also close by. The large garden at the back was perfect for relaxing in after a days sightseeing and there's a barbecue for visitors to use if the weather is right. We were mostly lucky with the weather, except for one day of bad rain and wind, but the board games provided helped pass the time.

Correspondence with the owner was also good and very hepful.

If we ever decide to holiday in Cornwall again (which is very likely, we loved it!), we would have no hesitation in coming back here and i'd definitely recommend this property to family and friends.

Tolles Haus !

Das Haus war sehr schön und sauber und mit allem ausgestattet, was wir benötigt haben.

Der Garten ist groß und mit einer tollen Terrasse ausgestattet. Wir haben einen wundervollen Urlaub verbracht. Schade nur, dass wohl das Haus während unseres Aufenthaltes verkauft wurde.
