Welcome to our holiday home on the beautiful ilha culatra which has been voted the best beach on the Algarve. Culatra is a traditional fishing island which is part of the Rio Formosa national park. The main attraction to the island is the stunning beaches and abundance of wildlife. There are no roads or cars on culatra which makes for a very relaxing holiday, The island has restaurants and bars which serve lovely traditional food at very reasonable prices. There are 3 small supermarkets that have a good selection of fresh produce along with everyday essentials. Fresh bread is normally ordered the day before. The island is accessible by passenger ferry which runs frequently from Olhao and takes approx 20 mins. Water taxis are always available. The house is on one level and has a terrace downstairs, a courtyard and roof terrace with view over the fio formosa and the mainland. Please note that an end of clean fee of €50 is payable directly to the cleaning lady on the island.
This holiday met and in many ways surpassed our expectations. We were given lots of useful information by the owner prior to our visit, and we knew we were visiting a quiet car-free island. The owner was also available via e-mail to sort out any worries during our stay. We went hoping for warm, not too hot, sun, sand, sea, good food, especially fish, and cheap, quaffable wine, with plenty of opportunity for walking, reading, and relaxing, and that is exactly what we got! The house is homely and comfortable, close to the ferry, small shops and local bars, and a 20 minute walk from the beach. There is a lovely roof terrace with beautiful views. The absence of cars makes this such a peaceful place! Other than booking a water taxi, access to the island is via the ferry, which went onto the winter time table during our late September visit, is the only way of getting to Culatra. This does require careful planning of visits to Olhao (which is well worth visiting), and of the return to the airport!
The gift of time, space, relaxation, good food and low carbon footprint are the best ways for us to describe our stay on Ilha Culatra. The accommodation was wonderful. Everything we needed was provided in the rental. The rooftop terrace was delightful for viewing the Ocean Sunset.
We can't recommend Mandy's place highly enough! Our expectations were surpassed in so many aspects and it is very reasonable to assume that we will be here again some time in the future. We had a great stay and everything was exactly as it has been described. The owner has been very nice, helpful, welcoming and accomodating. We were given many useful informations prior to our arrival by her and she answered every of our questions via whatsapp within minutes. The villa itself is also great! It has absolutely everything (!) you need, it is super clean and very comfy. We felt at home from the start. We personally loved watching the sunset on the roof terrace as well as having a barbecue grilling fish. We already miss Ilha Culatra and cannot wait to come back and stay at Casa Amelia again....
P.s. Mandy, all the best to you and your family!
I would thoroughly recommend this villa to anyone looking for a break away from everyday life, Mandy the owner is everything you could ask for and has a beautiful house with everything you could need for a break away from the hustle and bustle of a traditional tourist resort, comfy beds a very well equipped kitchen and the outside shower is to die for on a hot Algarve afternoon. The island is a real traditional Portuguese fishing community and you can't help be immersed into the culture. We had an amazing week here and will definitely be back at some point. Thank you first everything Mandy 😆😆
My wife and I have visited this beautiful island many times on day trips and have always wanted to stay longer. This provided us with the ideal opportunity. It did not disappoint in any way, in fact it exeeded our expectations.
Amanda, the owner, is a very charming and helpful lady. Always ready to respond to any questions and always ready with advice and help you may need.
She is very proud of her property and rightfuly so. It is immaculately presented, very clean, spacious and very well equiped. Everything you need for a worry free holiday is there, even down to a shopping trolley for you to get your supplies from the local shops!
The rooftop terrace was one our favourite places. Spending many an evening with a bottle of wine watching the amazing sunsets was so relaxing.
The beach is accessed by a boardwalk which takes you through a nature reserve to the ocean side of the island. It is stunning and well worth visiting, but do take your own provisions with you as there are no facilities there. If you are feeling energetic you can walk along the beach to the next village, Farol, where there are beach bars, toilets etc.
Culatra has about 5 bars/restaurants and three small supermarkets there and everyone are helpful and friendly.
Our favourite restaurant being the last one on the main walkway as you head to the beach. The owner speaks very good english and the food and ambience is fantastic.
There are no vehicles on the island apart from the odd tractor now and then taking supplies from the harbour to the village and it is so quiet there.
If you want peace and tranquility in a beautiful setting, then this is the place to come.
For myself and my wife it was perfection in every way.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend 'Casa Amelia' and Culatra to anyone thinking of going to Portugal for a very relaxing holiday.
We will definately be booking this holiday home again in the not too distant future.

Family with young children. The property was clean, well maintained and provided everything needed. Just a short and pretty walk from the ferry and little beach and 10 min stroll to the beautiful beach over the walk way. Mandy the owner was amazing and very helpful. I would highly recommend the property to anyone wishing to have a tranquil holiday in a beautiful location. There are a few shops and cafes which are perfectly adequate so you don't even need to leave the island, although it is very easy to take the ferry to Olhao, Farol or Faro. We saw storks, sea anemones, starfish and even a sea hare. There wasn't anything I was disappointed with and so wish we were there now.

Just got home from a 5 day break to "casa Amelia". This house was very much a home from home. The owner had tried very hard to give you everything you need to make the stay more than comfortable. Two very spacious bedrooms with even a bed settee in the lounge, fully equipped kitchen ,oven, hob, microwave, kettle, toaster fridge freezer and even a juicer ,full size TV with all the channels you could possibly want in the lounge, the down stairs patio has table and chairs, washing machine ,BBQ (gas) and even an outside shower. Going up to the roof top there is another table and chairs and wicker effect sofa chairs and table. We were very impressed with all there was to offer.
On the island ther is a good selection of bar/resterants a couple of little super markets and even a bakers, if you want more selection you could nip over to the main land which is a 15 min ferry ride which costs 1.85€ each way... Bargin.
Ther is a lovely beach which is a 20min walk along a very long board walk , it is defiantly worth the walk, but worth making sure you have your water with you cos it's a long walk til you get to a beach bar
Fab holiday thankyou
