Overview

About the property

The perfect couples city retreat. Clean, cosy and quiet.

Hi I'm Marco,

Thanks for visiting my page and I hope you're well.

After taking 8 months to give this property a significant upgrade I'm finally ready to start hosting again!

I'd like to start by telling you a bit about the place. Firstly, this double bedroom is quiet, clean and comfortable. It's up on the second floor with access to high speed wifi. The duvet sheets are made from Egyptian cotton. The duvet is made from goose feather and down. The mattress is made from memory foam. So the bed is guaranteed to keep you warm, cosy and very comfortable indeed. The bed is perfect for 2 people so if you are travelling alone may I suggest the room next door? Just ask me for details. It'll work out cheaper for you too :-)

There is a brand new bathroom and shower room in the house. We can share both but if you’d prefer to have your own private bathroom just ask me for details.

The kitchen has a microwave, electric rings for cooking (no oven), and a table for dining.

We'd be sharing both the bathrooms and the kitchen (depending on availability or unless we agree otherwise).

Please check with me what the bathroom arrangements are before booking.

Now on to the location. I've lived in London for 20 years and can honestly say that we're based in one of the greatest spots in London. Fulham manages to strike the perfect balance between tranquillity and liveliness.

The property is a 5 minute walk from the nearest Zone 2 tube station, Fulham Broadway. There are exactly 10 buses you can catch between 1 and 3 minutes walk from the house. These are both daily and nightly buses that will take you all over London whilst giving you an opportunity to actually see it!

Piccadilly Circus, Knightsbridge (Harrods), Hyde Park Corner, Chelsea, Notting Hill Gate, Portobello Road, Waterloo (London Eye), Hammersmith, Ravenscourt Park and Victoria (Buckingham Palace) are just a handful of cool places these buses will take you. As a side note, I use a handy smartphone app called Bus Times every time I plan on taking the bus. It tells you how far any bus is from your nearest bus stop. Super handy.

Are you a football fan?

- Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge is a 9 min walk

- Fulham F.C.’s Craven Cottage is a 6 min drive

- QPR’s Loftus Road is a 15 min drive

- Arsenals’ Emirates Stadium is a 33 min drive

- Tottenham Hotspur's White Heart Lane is a 48 min drive

Are you a tennis fan?

- Wimbledon is a 15 drive

Another great feature here is that the property is easily accessible from all major airports. I’m fortunate to fly a fair amount so I want to make sure I waste no time at all in transit. I've listed the major airports in order of distance from the house and described my favourite way of getting to/from there:

- Heathrow (all terminals): cab for under £30. Door to door this will take 25 minutes. The underground is also an option though it will take twice as long and is less fun.

- Gatwick: there is a train between Clapham Junction station and Gatwick called the Southern Service. 25 minute journey will cost £11. Cab between Clapham Junction and home will take 10 minutes and will cost £8. You can also get the Overground train to West Brompton and then the Underground to Fulham Broadway. The house is then a 5 minute walk from Fulham Broadway Station.

- Stansted: bit far this one. You're looking at about 2 hours door to door. The least painful route with public transport would be Greater Anglia train from Stansted to Tottenham Hale, Victoria line train to Victoria, District line train to Fulham Broadway. This should cost no more than £25... otherwise 1 hour and 15 min by cab will cost £80 or thereabouts.

Luton: A little quicker than Stansted. About 1h15m in total. East Midlands Trains go from Luton to Kings Cross St. Pancras. You can get home from there with a Piccadilly line train to Earl's Court and then a District line train to Fulham Broadway. Total should come to £20.

And finally a quick note on money. If you have a credit card (or even a debit card) I would just go ahead and use that here in London when making your purchases. Check how much your bank charges for international use but shouldn't be too much more than £1 or so per transaction. Plus their exchange rates are good. If you prefer cash I would suggest Metro Bank. They are quick and have reasonably competitive rates. Although Mastercard's exchange rates may be better which means you may end up paying more to exchange your physical cash than you would by just paying for everything with your credit card in the first place. If you want more details on this just let me know and I'll take a closer look for you.

I hope this description has helped. Please send me a message if you have any questions.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Marco

About Marco Calabrese

Hello,

I joined the property hosting revolution at the end of 2016 and am very excited to be able to contribute to it.

I started travelling when I was just a couple of months old. Rome to Costa Rica of all places! Since then I've been fortunate enough to see a lot of the world through work, volunteering and leisure.

What I realised is that one of the best aspects of travelling is the rich variety of people you meet on your journeys. I think being a host gives you that awesome aspect of travelling without ever having to venture past your doorstep.

I’m a financial market consultant by trade but work on my start up in the evenings and weekends.

I look forward to hearing from you. Hopefully we can share some life experiences over a mint tea... or a cocktail :-)

P.S. feel free to add me on facebook or just send me a message on here if you have any questions.

Felt just like home - Beautiful house, very comfortable stay and helpful host

  • 5 of 5

Marco was very welcoming and a great host, he continuously went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and happy at the house. The house itself is beautiful and has that warm feeling to make you feel like your at home, everything was newly renovated and always kept clean. Only minutes away from amazing bars and restaurants and a short walk to the nearest tube station into the city, the house was in a great location. We will definetly be staying at Marcos house again in the future - thanks for having us!

Fulham is good location, Marco is a gracious host

  • 4 of 5

We spent 4 nights with Marco. Marco was very responsive to all pre-trip questions and available during our stay for local stores, directions and transportation options. Be aware if you have any mobility limitations, this may not be the best location, the bed is only inches off floor and there are 4 sets of stairs to the room and bathroom we rented. We arranged to have a private bathroom which worked well for us. The bedroom window opens on quiet courtyard, so no road noise. Marco provides an electric kettle, cups and coffee in the bedroom which was very appreciated. Thank you Marco for welcoming us into your home and city.

Our London Stay

  • 5 of 5

This place was a perfect location...buses and trains were very close so we could travel to anywhere we wanted to go. We opted for the private bathroom, which was perfect for us, we loved the spa like feel of the bathroom. Marco was a very gracious and inviting host, letting us know the locations of places we might need or want to go near the area. Always available for anything we needed. He also put together a birthday basket for me, as it was my boyfriends birthday the day we checked in. The basket was perfect, with wine, fruit and cheese, all of what we like. I think this was above and beyond something a host usually does. And he was soooo happy to do it, said he loves doing this sort of thing. Thank you Marco for allowing us to stay in your home!!! The only think I could even possible recommend is possibly adding a television to the room for the late evenings, when you haven't adjusted to the time change yet and need something to do.

I totally recommend this property! I had a really nice experience and I felt like being at home. Marco is really hospitable and thoughtful, he pays attention to small details and is available any time to make sure you have everything you need. The house was always clean and in a really good state. Also, the area is really well connected and is full of bars, shops, cinema and nice restaurants... I would definitely repeat that experience!

Marco's house is a great location for your stay in London. Marco is a friendly and loving owner, and the house is clean and comfortable. Perfect location close to Fulham underground station, only 10 minute from the city center and full of restaurants, pubs and a lot of markets (M&S and WholeFood for organic foods too). Everything will make you as feel at home!

Car: not necessary

Fulham strikes the perfect balance between tranquillity and liveliness. Easily accessible from major airports and central London. The property is very easy to get to by bus, tube or car. And is on the edge of Zone 1 if you’re looking for it on the tube map.

The area is full of parks, restaurants, cocktail bars, pubs and nightclubs but the house is on a road that is perfectly peaceful. It’s also walking distance from several supermarkets if you prefer to cook your own meals.

Fulham Broadway tube station is a 5 minute walk. Bus stops are everywhere and provide a direct line to central London. Uber offers the best cab service in my opinion. If you've not already registered I'd suggest downloading the app and setting yourself up before you arrive. Use code marcoc37 for a £10 voucher.

It's far from necessary given how good the London transport service is but if you are interested in renting a car you'll find the best deals on skyscanner.net/carhire.

For great burger I recommend Gourmet Burger Kitchen. If you’re in the mood for some quality quick chicken Nando’s in Fulham Broadway mall is your best bet. For a larger menu and a more romantic setting Marco Grill is very nice. All three are walking distance from the house. If you prefer cooking your own meal there are around 10 supermarkets within a ½ mile radius.

Nearby banks include Lloyds Bank, Barclays, Nationwide and Metro Bank. The closest park is just southeast of my house.

Venturing out of the area you’ll likely enjoy Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Street, Regent Street, Harrods, The London Dungeon, The London Eye, Madame Tussauds, Hyde Park, Green Park, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Shakespeare's Globe, Sea Life London Aquarium.

For a nice place to eat and drink with an outstanding view I would highly recommend The Shard, The Heron Tower, Tower 42 and Sky Garden.

The museums are outstanding. And free. My favourites are The Imperial War Museum, The Science Museum, The Natural History Museum, The British Museum, The National Art Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Tate Modern.
