About the property

Located on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, in California with easy walking distance to the Nevada state line border. Convenient to Truckee Airport, Highways 89, 267, 28, and Interstate 80. There is a four night minimum to rent the property.

Nearby Incline Village, Kings Beach, and Tahoe City offer excellent shopping and dining. Summer guests have their pick of many golf courses, nearby tennis courts and a myriad of water sports. Winter guests will find an array of world class downhill and cross-country skiing including Northstar (15 min. drive) and Squaw Valley.

PROPERTY: Amidst the picturesque Sierra Mountain Range, this south facing home is perched on the shore of fabled Lake Tahoe. Built among giant granite boulders, this cedar-bark sided home traces its history back to the Gatsby era of the Brockway Springs Hotel, which was located on the western part of Brockway Point. At the end of a silent cul-de-sac, the Rocky Roost compound sits behind large iron gates on one and a half acres. The compound includes: the Main Residence, Cabin, and Suite. With 120 feet of Lake frontage, the property faces the majestic South and East shorelines, and boulders, aspens, and large pines on both sides frame the home.

Option 1: The Main Residence. This is about 3500 sq. ft. and contains a split-level living room, kitchen, breakfast room, four bedrooms, and a home theater. There is a generous area on the lake side of the lower living room for dining with a table that can seat up to 14 people. The master suite has a spectacular lake view, a king size bed, and adjoining bath. The second bedroom has a queen size bed and adjoining bath. The third bedroom has a queen size bed with a bathroom next to it that includes a steam shower. The fourth bedroom has three twin beds and an en-suite bathroom. There is also a game room with space for kids to sleep in sleeping bags. You reach the front door through a private shady courtyard that has areas among the boulders for barbecuing and lounging. The entrance area is separated from the lower living room by a antique stone fireplace. The upper living room boasts a hand made copper fireplace built directly into the granite boulder that juts through the floor. The main deck and house surround a massive first growth ponderosa pine. This deck has breathtaking lake views and plenty of room for dining, lounging, and enjoying the hot tub. The private beach is a combination of sandy beach and boulders, with several decks and patios for enjoying the lake. There are two kayaks and a canoe available to launch from the beach.

Option 2: The Main Residence plus the Suite below the main house. This Suite has its own kitchen, living area, bath, and cozy queen size sleeping loft. There is a four-rung ladder that leads up to the loft. This suite is built around a boulder and, the windows have a fabulous lake views.

Option 3: The Main Residence, the Suite, and the Cabin. The Cabin has a bedroom with a double bed, its own kitchen, and bath. Known as the Honeymoon Cottage it is little charmer nestled in the boulders with filtered lake views, and its own deck and backyard sunbathing area.

Please note that pathways to the boathouse and lake are steep and are not suitable for or are dangerous to persons with disabilities and to unattended children. You must attend young children at all times on any part of the property indoors or outdoors. RENTERS ASSUME ALL RISKS AND LIABILITY.

Wonderful memories....

Consider this review more of a reflection.... We had the luxury of staying at Rocky Roost several times in the '90's. Pure fate that we discovered this beautiful, old Tahoe slice of heaven. We tried for several years to arrange going back, but discovered it was not being rented. We used to barter fresh PNW Salmon with Cameron, the caretaker, to convince the then owners to rent the site. So glad to see it is again available. You will never forget a stay at Rocky Roost....
