Built of cedar and stone, Lakewood is the only cabin among the 10 deluxe mountain homes in Cabins of Birch Hollow with an outside, wood-burning fireplace on the upper covered deck. It has 3 completely private bedrooms, as well as 2 large bathrooms – one with a Jacuzzi tub and a shower. The secluded setting overlooking a babbling brook and catch & release fishing pond, and the fisherman theme make this an all-time guest favorite. This cabin has a large living room w/gas fireplace, a wet bar and pool table downstairs in the rec area w/gas fireplace, a hot tub on the covered lower deck, and a porch swing, gas grill and large outside eating area on the covered upper deck. Upstairs bedrooms have queen-size beds, downstairs bedroom has a king-size bed, and a day bed in the downstairs rec room consists of 2 twin beds, increasing sleeping capacity from 6 to 8. A cedar tree standing atop the staircase, in the center of the cabin, is always a conversation piece. Huge laundry room with washer/dryer. Large screen TV, DVD/VCR. Central HVAC. DirecTV in this cabin provides reliable reception and you can order PPV at your expense. Lakewood has had DSL Internet for years but just switched to U-Verse. Cell phone booster. Land line provides voice-over with U-Verse, so even if cell service is intermittent, you have a reliable phone line. Cabin is secluded, as are all cabins in Birch Hollow. Nothing beats enjoying a glass of wine or some hot cocoa on the outside covered deck, hypnotized by a beautiful fire and listening to the sounds of the brook below - for hours!
I'm a Florida gal who loves the mountains of Kentucky and North Carolina. I invested in my beautiful Lakewood cabin in 2010 to provide a wonderful getaway for myself and my family from time to time, and to share this gorgeous wilderness near the Red River Gorge with folks who come for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation! What a great hands-off investment for me, and I get to enjoy both the beaches of Florida and the Kentucky mountains during my retirement.

I love all 10 cabins in Birch Hollow, as they are all custom-designed and beautifully decorated and located within minutes of Natural Bridge and the Red River Gorge in the Daniel Boone National Forest. I chose Lakewood because it had a strong rental history, had 3 private bedrooms, making it ideal for 3 couples or large families, and the covered deck with the spectacular stone wood-burning fireplace is the centerpiece for amazing gatherings and good times. It was one of the best decisions of my life.
Incredible outside wood-burning fireplace on huge covered deck allows for large gatherings even if it's snowing or raining - and the sound of the brook below, a glowing fire, the deck swing - it's just perfect! The tree in the living room around which the cabin is built is amazing! Guests love the antique pool table and wet bar in the rec room, leading to a great hot tub - and the sound of the brook makes the hot tub experience fabulous! Jacuzzi in the upstairs bath, large screen TV, and genuine "cabin feel" of Lakewood keep it rented every weekend! Our guests check in and meet our staff, and we provide personal customer service and amenities you just won't find anywhere else in the area.

We rented the Lakewood a couple of weeks ago. We were so excited to get there and I had gone on line about a thousand times to look at the pictures, anxiously awaiting our trip and hoping it was as nice in person as it looked on the web! Well our first experience was checking in, Tonya was so welcoming and helpful,I immediately felt a...t ease, the drive to the cabin was beautiful despite the rain. The location was perfect, beautiful trees rushing creek, seclusion, it was paradise, when I opened the cabin door it took my breath away, there is no way pictures could ever do it justice. It was absolutely perfect. 100 times more awesome then I had expected. We had perfect weather the whole week, the local town was friendly and easy to get to. We did the natural bridge and the gorge and loved the skylift ride. We took our 13 year old son and my 91 year old Mom and both had a great time, my Mom said it was the prettiest place she had seen in her whole 91 years.
Thanks to Cabins of Birch Hollow and to the wonderful owner, who we met and was also very kind and eager to make our stay perfect. We will see you again, soon! See More
My family stayed at the Lakewood cabin over Memorial weekend and enjoyed every minute. The cabin was everything we anticipated and the outdoor fireplace was a big hit. The babbling brook was a pleasant bonus and the hiking trail was so peaceful. I would highly recommend this cabin and hope to go back one day.
Outdoor activities and area attractions: Hiking in Red River Gorge, Natural Bridge State Resort Park or right in our private development at Birch Hollow; sky lift to Natural Bridge; canoeing/kayaking; fishing; two zip lines; rock climbing/rappelling; ATV trails; wildlife viewing; bird watching; reptile zoo. Hiking 'gorgeous' trails and taking incredible pictures is a must do. Views are spectacular! New obstacle challenge course in nearby Slade. Gotta have a hand-made pizza and Ale 8 at Miquels near Natural Bridge - been here 30 years! New Red River Rockhouse owned by young rock climbers serves a variety of healthy meals and offers alcohol, as it's in nearby Wolfe County.
