About Jo Davis

We live in this home when it is not occupied with vacationers. It is a joy to share it with others who appreciate the outdoors and all that Riverbend brings to life. I am an artist and my husband is a musician when we are here. The nearby towns are filled with talented friends and mentors.

Jo Davis purchased this chalet in 2007

Why Jo Davis chose Talking Rock

Original Cherokee Indian tribes occupied this entire area. The river sounds and terrain spoke to us when we found the lot. The log home and site are perfectly paired.

What makes this chalet unique

There is no reason to leave the site if you love the outdoors. The playful waterfront and miles of scenic trails around the community invite hiking and roads are ATV friendly.

Ideal for family getaway!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved this cabin. The kids stayed in the river nearly our entire stay. We made great use out of the tubes provided by Zach and Jo. There were deer and turkey all over the property. I saw a huge buck during my early morning hike around the property, there is a nice gravel road just at the top of the driveway that takes you up river. The view from the back deck is amazing. After the sun set we grilled out and watched the College World Series both nights while the kids played ping pong and pool downstairs. It was perfect because we were only about an hour away from Atlanta, so it was a short trip from the cabin to Turner field where we watched the Braves play the Yankees. The owners were great they called once we were there and made sure everything was satisfactory. We loved it.

Owner's Response: We love the reviews! Actually, we originally chose the location because Jasper is Georgia's first mountain town with open country and mountain views for miles around. Riverbend is on a remote riverfront lot, but Atlanta is just a stone's throw away. Most guests just want to get there and stay, but this group planned a strategy. Their objectives were to stay in a real log cabin and get in to Atlanta for the Braves and Yankees game in Turner Field. We were excited for their plans and so pleased that we could be part of this great vacation. Thanks for enjoying Riverbend and for sharing your adventure with us.

Beautiful cabin, wonderful stay!

  • 4 of 5

Riverbend is a lovely cabin overlooking a great beach and river. My two daughters, son-in-law, and soon-to-be son-in-law joined my husband and me for the Memorial Day weekend. We had such an amazing time just being together. We utilized the fully-outfitted kitchen to its utmost- I baked pies, (the KitchenAid came in so handy), we grilled steaks, and had a great time making s'mores at the fire pit on the beach our last night. We hiked, sunned, played horseshoes, and even took the canoe out on the river.

Our little family is spread across the country and this was the perfect place for us to all come back together for relaxing family time. I can't wait until we get to do it again.

The owners were delightful and a joy to work with. They made our stay so memorable and easy. We are grateful for their hospitality.

Great weekend getaway...

  • 5 of 5

Our family of three (mom, dad & 2-yr old) visited the cabin for Memorial Day Weekend '09 and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin's natural lighting and panoramic view of the creek was very inviting. We spent most of our time lounging on the main level, but when we decided to venture out, our toddler had a great time wading in the creek. About 30 minutes away, we found a great place to rent a rubber ducky and cruise down the river. We never figured out how to get into the bottom level game room, but it actually worked to our benefit, because it kept us all close and cozy upstairs. Jo was incredibly accommodating and we couldn't have felt more at home. Thanks a million for sharing your lovely chalet with us.

Traveler Tip: Be sure to check the towels and your shoes for creepy crawlers. I was bitten by a scorpion. It turned out to be harmless, but it was a little scarey for the first few minutes...

Owner's Response: Thanks, Noel, The five star rating is always appreciated as are guests who have enjoyed their time at Riverbend. Your Traveler Tip is one that had not occured to me. As you know we use our conversations and virtual tours prior to all guests' rentals to be sure that they will enjoy the natural private and wooded site of the luxury log chalet. We love nature and try to select guests who do, too. Thanks for your reminder to respect the critters when visiting. It seems that you accomplished the goal of quality time with your husband and toddler. We hope you added the information about the "rubber ducky" river ride you found. The ever growing green book of shared adventures is so fat now that we will have to re-organize while we are in Riverbend ourselves this month. We try to attend at least twice each year to be sure things are still as we left them. This summer has been so busy that housekeeping was spinning. We found the interior and decks so squeeky clean when we arrived last week that we teased housekeeping when one leaf was found on the master deck. We are grateful to the many guests who have respected our property and the many new friends met through it. Very sincerely, Jo & Zach

Something for everyone..

  • 5 of 5

As we packed to leave Riverbend, my three year old started to cry. "Mommy, I don't want to leave our cabin." She was right. I didn't want to leave it either. I have never felt so at home on a vacation. The cabin is private, clean and inviting. There is somthing to do there for everyone. We took five children ranging in age from 3 to 16 and not one of them was bored this week. You will never run out of things to do and you'll never have to leave the property to do them. Riverbend offers so many activities, from playing pool, ping pong, darts, and tennis to swimming (river and pool), hiking, tubing, fishing, and kayaking. When the day is winding down and everyone is blissfully exaughsted, the cabin has direct tv, wireless internet, and a hot tub. We read the previous reviews and followed Jo's advice to stock up on groceries in Jasper. We only left the community once the whole week to buy a few things we forgot. The cabin was so close to Atlanta that I called my mom and had her bring my grandmother up for an afternoon. Getting grandma to go home wasn't easy. She could have sat on the deck and stared out at the river for days. The beach area is the highlight of the cabin. The accessibility to the river is phenomenal. I dropped my husband and the big kids off at the lodge just down from the pool. They were able to tube for two hours and get out right at the backdoor to the cabin.

Looking back, we had an added bonus...we saved money. No need to spend lots of cash each time you stop at a new attraction or for dinner, lunch or snacks. Actually, you can almost consider it an all inclusive resort. Take what you need and you won't need to touch your check book for the entire time you are there.

We only ran into three other couples and a handful of children the entire week. The pool is a community pool, but might as well have been private.

Riverbend was so beautiful and peaceful. As we head back to work, we are already missing the cabin and counting down the days until our next long weekend or vacation.

Thank you Jo and Zach for sharing your little piece of heaven with us.

Absolutely Amazing!!!!

  • 5 of 5

The property is incredibly beautiful. The cabin is new, beautifully decorated, clean, roomy, and a perfect woodsy cabin. The surrounding forest is beyond beautiful. The river sounds amazing, looks amazing, and was a blast to walk and swim in. There is a sandy beach perfect for laying out. The sand is soft and it is right on the river. I was really blown away by how nice the beach is. It is an actual beach in the middle of the remote woods. The cabin is located nowhere near any other cabin. It is miles from the next cabin. You literally have miles of woods around you all to yourself. Driving to the cabin you make 3 different turns onto roads that are have no other cabins on them. You are out there and alone! It was great... no cell phones, no car noise, nothing but the rushing river and the birds!

The kitchen is brand new, large, and nicely equipped. We only stayed in the master so I can only speak to the comfort of that bed and it was wonderful. The master bath is huge with a big tub and nice big shower. The living room is cozy and comfortable. The Direct TV was nice the couple times we used it. The other two bedrooms looked very nice and inviting. One has bunk beds and the other a queen.

There are multiple decks overlooking the slope leading to the river. One has a grill, one leads out from the master, and another down below on the bottom floor. The bottom floor is not completely finished, but it has lots of games (ping pong, darts, etc.) and a nice pool table. Outside the lower level is a hot tub also overlooking the river.

The cabin has awesome views from all the rooms. We rent cabins in the North Georgia mountains fairly frequently, and have for years. This is the first cabin I've ever written a review about. I almost hesitated to do so because once the word gets out on this spot, it might be hard to find an open weekend. It's outside of Jasper, so it only takes an hour to get there from Marietta.

Our plan was to spend the first day at the Cabin and the second hiking in Ellijay or up by Helen, but once we got to the cabin, we literally did not want to leave.. and didn't. We chose to hang out on the beach. play in the river, and hike up and down the river exploring.

Jo and Zach were incredible to work with. They made the process easy, enjoyable, straight forward, and worry-free. We very much look forward to going back this summer.

We had an incredible time, didn't want to leave, and can't wait to go back!!!!!

Private, Peaceful, Comfortable, Fun

  • 5 of 5

What a glorious month we spent @ Riverbend. Jo is an absolute delight to deal with and made us feel at home from the get go. The house was clean, comfortable and peaceful. (Marty is a star)

So much to do in the area—Kayak on the Catecay (it’s a blast). Hike to the Len Foote Hike Inn in Amicalola and spend the night (what a treat). Ft. Mountain offers great hiking and biking. Of course, Carter’s Lake around the corner. The Olympic Center on the Ocoee River offers incredible swimming—high jumps—swim through underwater tunnels and sliding rocks—also great hiking.

When you have had enough exploring off property, head to the river. Great tubing when water is high. If you tube downstream to Meadow Rd, it’s a short 15 min walk back—keep left all the way.

Thank you Jo for a great month!

Owner's Response: This group was our first from Homeaway in our first summer as owner/managers. What a great group! They were experienced as homeaway vacationers and helped us add flavour to our property for all who followed them. They even contributed a few more toys for the river & beach. By the way, we just (March 19, 2009) did the river run they suggested and it was awesome! Thanks to them for sharing the experiences for future friends at Riverbend.

Talking Rock Creek Resort is just out of Jasper, the first 'mountain town' north of Atlanta. It is an easy, 4-lane to Jasper & turn west for 'fresh-air country.' The area is well known for weekend retreats, nature escapes, wildlife siting of deer and wild turkeys, water sports, hiking, fishing, and fresh air activities. We are surrounded by National and State Parks. Pristine Carter's Lake is minutes from the community gates with boating, skiing, and swimming/picnic areas. Art and music events abound in the area of Jasper, Ellijay and Blueridge. Ellijay's Apple Festival in fall adds to the list of charming mountain town celebrations for the summer and fall holidays-30 min north. Whitewater rafting at Rolling Thunder River Co, Blueridge Scenic Railway, Bluegrass music festivals, Arts Round the Square, Wildlife Rehabilitation Sanctuary, Apple Orchard Alley, historic sites, mountain views. It is a short drive from Atlanta or Chattanooga Airports to the other world your inner child wants to recall.

Other Activities: ATV, canoe, rafting, tubing, kayak

Golf: Unique mountain golf courses are special challenges if you must leave Riverbend for golf. A list of friendly courses and contact information provided in the guide book at the lodge.

Ski: Water ski on Carter's Lake year-round. The north Georgia mountains are a cool-but-not-too-cold pleasant surprise. Try the Carter's Lake marina to rent equipment or bring your own. Special parking space provided for boat or ATV equipment trailers at the Riverbend Lodge site.
