Suit family of 4 in lovely tranquil setting next to Ashdown Forest

Fairstowe coach house provides new, stylish accommodation, independent from the main house. There are two bedrooms, one with king size double bed and en suite shower room, the other has two folding single beds. There is an open plan kitchen and living area. The kitchen units are arranged along one side with central island which also provides surface for eating and has 4 bar stools. There is an integrated washing machine and dish washer. Heating is provided by a gas boiler with radiators.

The space is light and airy having fanlights in the roof and glazed oak panels in place of the entrance doors of the original coach house. The property has the benefit of shared access to a south-facing terrace, (summer) heated swimming pool and outdoor games, such as table tennis and croquet. There are lovely gardens of 3 acres.

About Bridget Hayward

Bridget works at a nearby large hospital in ultrasound and Jim is a retired veterinary surgeon. We have lived here for 9 years and share an interest in developing the house and garden. Both keen gardeners, Bridget particularly on the structure and design of the garden, Jim more on the plants and production in the kitchen garden.

We have 2 offspring, who are now adult and have left home, but who think we would be more entertaining if we kept pigs, chickens and bees !

Why Bridget Hayward chose East Sussex

It's hard to believe you're in the middle of the south-east of England when relaxing on a recliner on the sunny terrace or by the swimming pool. The garden is surrounded by trees and woodland which border spacious lawns and long herbaceous borders. The terrace overlooks the lawns and pool. From this vantage point one can see an abundance of wild life. The whole provides tranquillity, space and privacy.

The property is very accessible being about 1 mile from Crowborough town centre and 7 miles from Tunbridge Wells. We are approximately equidistant from London and the south coast and so are an ideal centre for exploring the Ashdown Forest, many National Trust properties, gardens and outdoor pursuits.

If guests wish to spend time at the property they can swim in the heated pool, play table tennis on a full-size outdoor table, play a game of croquet on the lawn or bask in the sun on the terrace or by the pool. Alternatively, there is an extensive choice of actvities for a day out. Fairstowe is roughly equidistant from London and the coast and surrounded by National Trust and privately owned properties and gardens. For those of energetic intent there is a climbing wall locally or the real thing - Harrisons Rocks. Also a dry ski slope. Please ask the owners for further information.

Location was perfect, modern facilities, owners extremely helpful.

We had 4 nights with one to remember, thunder and lightning lasting an hour which was absolutely spectacular.

We will return, and certainly a cottage to recommend.

Smart, well presented coach house

Thank you Jim and Bridget for a relaxing enjoyable stay. The coach house has been renovated and equipped to a high standard and worked very well for my sister and I. Perfectly located to our course in Crowborough and a joy to return after two very hot days to a cool and shady retreat, lovely garden to stroll in and spend the evening enjoying the peace and quiet. We also appreciated the essentials, milk tea and coffee so we could make a cuppa on arrival.Thank you again and best wishes. Hope to visit again.Chris and Judith

A great little find in a lovely spot

Our family enjoyed a lovely peaceful week away here in early March. The Coach House is small but very well appointed, and tastefully finished. High quality kitchen appliances and equipment throughout were nice to see (and Netflix and the like via the tv was a nice touch too to help fill the down time).

Bridget and Jim are the very friendly and helpful owners, living in the house to which this accommodation sits within the grounds. The gardens were lovely to wander around with kids and the trampoline was a definite favourite. Although the outdoor pool wasn't a realistic option at this time of year, it would be a lovely addition to a summer stay.

There were lots of options to explore nearby and the estate itself is nice for a wander.

Thanks for a lovely stay. Although the family has probably outgrown it now, we'll be sure to recommend it to others looking for a good base to explore Sussex and Kent.

Fairstowe is on the edge of the Ashdown Forest in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty about 1 mile from the centre of Crowborough, which lies 7 miles south of Royal Tunbridge Wells in the High Weald. It is roughly equidistant between London and the south coast. The area is the highest in Sussex being close to the beacon on Beacon Road (780 feet). We can recommend places to eat, walks to walk, rocks to climb and a dry ski slope to dry ski ! There is also an abundance of National Trust and other properties and gardens in the area to explore.
