If you are looking at a very unique property, this is it!
We designed this cabin for relaxing and getting away. The house is nicely furnished with all the amenities you would have at home, but in a natural setting. The views from the living room, master bedroom, screened porch, deck, and loft are all breathtaking. There is a 300 foot bluff across the river with a train track at the base. You can fish, swim, or just relax in the White River, which is right in the backyard. The river is a low water river most of the year and is nice and cold, perfect during the hot summer months. We have built a fire pit with firewood for those campfire type of evenings. The property has a 1 acre area out front that is perfect for a football or baseball game.
We have looked at several places to stay in the Mountain View area and found something we thought was missing. Most of the properties in the area are very rustic with little amenities. We wanted to combine the rustic feature with today's amenities, including features like internet and stainless steel appliances. There are several activities to do in the area that mostly have to do with the outdoors in the Ozarks. You can listen to bluegrass in town square, shop for antiques at the stores, or enjoy one of the many restaurants in the area. There are several guide services for fishing, horseback riding, canoeing, or hike in the national forest.
The Ozark folk center is within 8 miles of the cabin and Blanchard Springs Caverns are about 20 minutes away. There are an abundance of activities to do, and you can have fun knowing that you have an incomparable and comfortable cabin to come home to.
We live in Fayetteville, AR and have always found Mtn. View an awesome place to get away. I was born and raised in Mtn. Home, AR an hour north of there. I am involved in several different businesses in the mid-south area. As a family we enjoy the mountains and the beach. We also have a 2 bedroom condo on the beach in Destin, FL. We enjoy watching other families enjoy the same places we do!
Leslie or Brant Barnes purchased this cabin in 2007
We decided to build this cabin/house because it would be unique to the area. It has a rustic exterior, with a modern and comfortable interior and is located right on the White River. We originally bought the lots down on the river because of it's beauty. We always knew that nature can't be re-created. When you get an opportunity to buy something truly unique, jump on it. Although it is very secluded and peaceful, we wanted to have modern amenities like Jenn-Aire appliances, flat screen tv for football, and upscale furnishings. We wanted access to the internet so that we could stay there longer periods while staying in touch. I can get my work done in the mornings and then go enjoy nature the rest of they day!!
Since our cabin is located right on the White River, you never need to leave the property once you arrive. You can float, swim and fish on site, enjoying the quiet mountain views and wildlife.
There is an Arkansas Game and Fish put in close as well. We are 15-20 minutes to Walmart, but still in the middle of nowhere. There is also a 400 ft. bluff across the river with a train at the base. The C-130's from Jacksonville Air Force Base fly by on low altitude training runs. Overall just an awesome place!
Our cabin also has satellite tv and internet.
This is a great cabin, and sits on a great peice of land that is right on the river. It is a ways off the beaten path (about 20 min off the main road), but bring a truck and you'll be good! If you are looking for a quiet peaceful place, this is it. The cabin did have wifi, so don't worry about not being accessible, but cell service was lacking greatly.
We will certainly book here again, if we make it back to Arkansas!
Thank you so much for sharing your cabin with us! We had an amazing time. The cabin was better than we expected. Very easy walk down to water. Close to town, yet out in country and very private. As for the other reviews' of the road coming down to the cabin, it's just a dirt road. Who cares if there's a pot hole...I saw a corvette down there!! No problems at all! We would stay there again in a heartbeat!! Take firewood if you want to burn a fire in the fire pit.
My husband and I celebrated my birthday with our best friends. The house was perfect for 2 couples. Furniture inside is nice and comfortable. Fire pit was nice, however we had no firewood. Our friends brought some or we would not have been able to enjoy it. The chairs at the fire pit need to be replaced. One was about to break. Fridge is still leaking which was an inconvenience. Kitchen was nice and well appointed. Bring everything you need because the trip back to town takes about 20 minutes on rough roads. We did not catch any fish due to high waters but we had fun trying. I enjoyed just watching the river roll by. All things considered we had a very relaxing visit.
The cabin (it's really a house) is situated in a pretty spot beside the White River. The road in to the cabin is rough and unless you're in a truck or SUV, you might find it difficult.
The place was comfortable, but there were some issues that lessened the overall experience for us.
The house had not been cleaned when we arrived and we had to call the owner to send a housekeeper out, but that was handled in a reasonable time.
There were no window coverings on most of the downstairs. I realize this was probably to maximize the views, but it felt much less than private. Especially when it was dark outside.
There were two comfortable bedrooms upstairs, and we could have made use of the downstairs bedroom, except for the fact that it was inexplicably designed to be a child's room. I can't see the average family sleeping upstairs while their child slept alone downstairs in the bedroom there.
One of the master bedroom windows had a broken lock. That presented a security issue. As did the fact that all of the upper windows in the living room area were in the unlocked position, for some reason. It just wasn't a secure feeling.
The house just seemed like it could use some maintenance, inside and out.
We booked the White River Cabin for the Christmas weekend. The cabin was just what we hoped it would be, we had everything we needed to spend a relaxing time at the cabin, not having to go out except for a bit of sight seeing and grocery shopping.
Linens and bedding with flannel sheets and the kitchen was totally set up with every colander (4), pot and sauce pan and knives a chef would be happy with.. There was ample wood for fire side coal watching. half a dozen hefty plastic chairs on the deck and wicker like outdoor seating in the screen room. Huge tress along the river bank looking across to limestone cliffs. The tracks at the base of the cliffs host a rumbling train at least once a day. The open living room has windows that go to the ceiling and frame the cliffs in the back ground.
The White River has exquisite trout fishing with guided service available in the area. There are also several boat and canoe rental spots nearby.
