Very Nice Property, Excellent Location on Torch Lake
My family and I just returned from an incredible vacation, 2 adults, 4 children. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and are thankful to the owner for sharing her home. We had room to spare. This property is located in an ideal area on Torch Lake the south east side with beautiful sunsets, a few miles from the quaint shops in Alden. The property itself was perfect for my family! All the amenities, plus a nice backyard with a dock on Torch Lake. This is the first review I have taken the time to write. I noticed the comments below, BUT had a very positive experience. The owner was completely professional AND we have friends that live and run a local business on Torch Lake, who also know the owner and have only compliments.
I am not one to write reviews but I wanted to respond to one negative review I read when checking on the availabity of this place for the end of August. My party of 8 had a great time here last summer. The place was great and we were not at all disappointed! The owner was rarely there and never intruded on uor privacy.
Returning to Torch Lake in 2013
While checking to make a reservation for the summer of 2013 at the cottage we rented in 2012, I noticed there were 2 reviews and decided to read them. I very much disagree with VERY DISAPPOINTED. My family of 10 (5 adults, 2 teenagers and 3 children) stayed there this past July and had a wonderful time. Yes, the house is an older lakeside home, but it is very clean and comfortable. We found it very quaint and nostalgic. We had all the essentials we needed. The owner lives in an apartment on the property but we never felt any invasion of our privacy and the ONE day that we saw her, she was very cordial and helpful. She gave us some good tips on restaurants and places to go. We loved our time at this Torch Lake property and that is why we are coming back again and again.
Not Disappointed, at all.
We stayed at this place over the July 4th week; just prior to the other reviewer's stay. No one had any issues with bedbugs or any other bugs, for that matter. I found the house had the appropriate amount of furniture with sufficient room for our party of 10. Remember, this is a typical older lakeside home, not a newly built McMansion. Admittedly, the interior is a little dated. However, we found it mildly amusing rather than obnoxious, as the other reviewer characterizes it.
With regards to the owner, the other review seems down right unfair. When we realized the owner lived in an apartment next door, we had what turned out to be unwarranted privacy concerns. However, we rarely saw her. There was nothing creepy about her and we never felt she was invading our privacy. We never saw her looking out the windows and, in fact, we were not even sure she was home until after we'd been there a few days. We were very surprised by how little interaction we had with her during our time at the house. Besides that, when you stay there, you'll find most of your activities are centered on the water side of the home, away from the owners apartment, so, even if she did "spend the entire time" watching (which I doubt she does), she wouldn't be able see you. Makes me wonder who was watching whom. Based on my experience, this is a very odd criticism.
Anyway, overall, we were pleased with our stay. We found that the house was properly equipped and had pretty much everything we needed. It was blazing hot when we were there, but the AC kept it cool. There's a buoy to anchor your boat to and the trip to the sand bar isn't too great. Head the other way and you get to the Clam River real quick with it's marina and restaurant. The water at the home was nice and there was plenty of space for the kids to run in the yard and to swim. It's convenient to Alden and Bellaire. All in all, it's a pleasant lakeside home that served us very well and everyone had a great time.
