About the property

The cottage is set in the beautiful quiet historic village of Bonsall on Masson Hill, although within 25 minutes you can walk to the Heights of Abraham cable car that leads to Matlock Bath which is a popular resort, some other nearby places of interest include Haddon Hall, Bakewell, Chatsworth, Carsington water and a little further afield Alton Towers.

The village of Bonsall benefits from two pubs which both offer a range of decent ales and food, the nearest of which is literally a stone’s throw from the front door, there is a café within 5 minutes walk overlooking the local children’s park and a small deli shop.

The cottage is a lovely family holiday home which has been refurbished, maintaining many traditional features which include exposed oak beams, original stone flags too the hall and recessed window seats. The cottage benefits from gas central heating, which is supplemented by a log burner.

The accommodation comprises:

On the ground floor; entrance hall, shower room and w/c. A large lounge leads off the hall which comfortably accommodates 8 people. The kitchen has a 6 seater dining table, range cooker and fitted kitchen.

Upstairs there is one king size bedroom, one double bedroom and one twin bedroom, there is a large bathroom with double ended bath.

A further two people can be accommodated on the sofa bed in the lounge taking the maximum occupancy to eight people ( you would need to fold the bed away each day to use the living room).

From all rooms there are views of the village or the surrounding countryside, the back stairs from the kitchen lead to the rear garden which has fantastic views and the field behind often has cows grazing (please don’t feed them!). There is a table and chairs to enjoy the view from. At the front of the property there is off road parking and a small front garden with seating, further parking is available on the street.

The cottage is child friendly and also two well behaved pets would be considered if kept downstairs (there is an additional cleaning fee for pets).

Whether hiking, hibernating or using Bonsall as a base to explore any of the other activities which are all available within 15 minute drive such as caving, rock climbing or sailing, I am sure you will enjoy staying here!

Lovely homely and excellently equipped, warm and comfortable beds.

We went there with my son and his young family of 3 boys and a baby girl for 3 nights over half term. The cottage was roomy and ideal for family meals and games. Excellently positioned close to child friendly pub. Lots to do in the area. Will hopefully return.

Great stay

We stayed here the beginning of September 17 and had an amazing time. Although there were some areas of the property that had damp patches, we were informed prior to arrival by the owner, so had no scary surprises when we first got there. The cottage is homely, cosy and kitted out with everything you need in order to make your stay comfortable. located perfectly for some nice walks in the nearby countryside and has some great small towns in the surrounding areas for a little window shopping. A thoroughly enjoyable weekend and will definitely be returning.

Lovely homey quirky cottage

I would of rated this a 5 star but there are a few faults currently which the owner is due to fix. The owner was really friendly and the property is very well equipped with all the essentials. We found it to be a home away from home. The villages itself is very picturesque and we've thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much for having us

State of the Cottage

On arrival we found two large patches of damp approx. a meter square, one in the second bedroom and one on the upstairs landing.

The light fitting in the hallway was just hanging of the ceiling, Ten light bulbs blown.

Rear garden full of weeds in seated area and over grown. Steps to garden slippery and unsafe,

Shed in that area containing tools and substances not secure (no door).

Mildew in downstairs shower and around kitchen sink, work tops were badly water damaged leaving black stained areas.

The Cottage as a whole needs a good through clean down stairs.

We went we with a child with asthma and this was not helped by the damp and dusty conditions.

We wonder how often you inspect your properties if at all!

Owner's Response: I would like to apologise that the cottage was not as I would have wanted it to be, I intend that all guests thoroughly enjoy their stay with no issues, and I am disappointed this was not the case. I think you will see from all the previous reviews that the cottage has been extremely clean and previous guests have had no issues. The one issue that I am aware of and I am in the process of dealing with is the damp, I am working with a builder at the moment and trying to come up with the best solution to the problem. If you had informed me of the dissatisfaction on your arrival then most of these could have been dealt with especially as you stayed for two weeks and the housekeeper, visited during your stay. For example the gardener could have visited (in the middle of the summer it is difficult for him to carry out duties without disturbing guests), the housekeeper reported two lightbulbs left out not working etc. The property is inspected after each guest and cleaned thoroughly, I visit every few months and will certainly look into all these issues and they will be rectified.

Lovely property
