Overview

About the property

1 bedroom apartment sleeping 2

The apartment is in a listed building overlooking the historic Place Carnot with its famous plane trees, fountain, cafes & picturesque market. Fantastic view of everything that takes place in the square. The market takes place Tuesdays, Thursdays, & covers the whole square on Saturdays. Grandstand view of all the festivals and other events. One minute walk from shops, cafes, restaurants, brasseries, ATMs etc. Bear in mind that being right in the town centre it can sometimes be noisy. Short walk to the Canal du Midi & the fabulous medieval Cite, & numerous excellent restaurants. Very near bus and railway stations. Troubadour is beautifully & comfortably furnished & equipped, in a very French style. It is luxurious and romantic.

Further details: Direct flights to Carcassonne from UK, Troubadour is 7 minutes from the airport. Wonderful holiday summer or winter (heating is included) -& you don't need a car.

Local festivals - the summer: The Carcassonne Festival takes place throughout July, both in the Cité and in the Bastide St. Louis. Many of the events take place in the Place Carnot and can be viewed from the apartment. The programme contains opera, dance, theatre, jazz, salsa, country and western and other concerts, folklore, street-theatre and comedy. If you don't fancy a rock concert in the Place Carnot, go up to the Cite for some opera. In August a re-enactment of the days of the troubadours takes place. Knights and horses in full costume, along with processions of jugglers, acrobats, mime artists, gymnasts, dancers and musicians will entertain you with jousting and processions. There is an organ festival that takes place from mid-June to mid-September, with concerts on the famous organ at the Basilica of Saint-Nazaire in the Cite. And on Bastille Day (14th July) there is a truly spectacular firework display - the Cité looks as though it is being set on fire with 25 minutes of fireworks.

Local festivals - the rest of the year: There is a Christmas market in the Place Carnot with a stage, a skating rink (3 euros an hour!) with a huge ice spectacular one of the evenings, artificial icicles on the fountain, and artificial snow on Christmas trees and the wooden stalls. There is a huge ferris wheel with views of the town and Cite just outside the Bastide walls, sledging, trampolines, fireworks and many other activities including the Foie Gras fair the Sunday before Christmas. It is quite magic, and clients who have been there over Christmas have been enchanted.

There are three big fairs in Carcassonne during the year, on 6th March, 6th September and the Fair of Ste Catherine on 25th November. These fairs are huge events, with crafts and produce from the region and elsewhere. The Dame Carcas Pig Fair is at the beginning of March and at the end of March there are the antique fairs. The flea market takes place in September each year in the streets of La Trivalle, the district directly underneath the Cite.

Troubadour is a 1 bedroom luxury apartment with a bathroom with bath, basin & WC, & spacious living room with ample kitchen area one end. It is a luxury apartment with quality furniture and equipment, & extras such as Egyptian cotton sateen bed linen, goose down pillows (synthetic available for allergy sufferers), silk curtains, towelling bathrobes & much more. The bedroom is very romantic, with off-white painted French furniture and a lacy half tester above the bed. Living room furniture includes a comfortable elegant sofa, beautiful cabinet, & traditional polished inlaid wooden dining table with tapestry chairs. There are beautiful mirrors & prints around the rooms, all contributing to the general effect of a smart Parisian apartment. As with the other apartments there is a stunning view over the Place Carnot. There is a brand new bathroom, & utility room with washing machine. All windows overlook the Place Carnot & have traditional shutters. Ideal for a romantic luxury holiday

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review. We really work hard to give our guests a special experience in France. It is our home away from home, and we want our guests to have that feeling also. We love our little foot hole in France and hope our guests do too! Cheers Kaye

Perfect Location in a lovely city

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely four night stay in Carcassonne visiting the old city and castle, a boat trip on the Canal du Midi and plenty of bars and restaurants.

The traditional french apartment is ideal for two people, perfectly located, clean and includes everything and more than you could ask for ask for. Special thanks to Kaye the owner who sent us useful information before hand and kept in touch throughout. Worth noting the apartment door is on the next floor from the key box.

A pretty apartment in central location

  • 5 of 5

I chose this attractive apartment because of its position in the middle of Carcassonne, busy with everyday life and not as crowded and touristy as properties in 'Le Cite'. The flat is very well equipped and French-looking, with comfortable sofa and bed (very important!) It was just what we needed, close to lots of attractions and handy for the station and canal. We explored locally and with public transport for the first few days then hired a car and travelled much further afield, seeing amazing views and scenery. I would certainly recommend it as a base to visit this lovely region of France.

Beautiful, convenient, all the comforts of home, great detailed instructions about everything.

  • 4 of 5

This lovely classic French apartment was even more than I expected. I even embraced the stairs as great exercise . . . grateful for the timed light switch in the hallway that always guided me safely to the door. For me, I love the creature comforts & every room in this apartment had exactly what I needed presented with beauty & elegance.

There was a concert both Friday & Saturday nights in Place Carnot when I was renting the apartment. It's probably a good idea to check what concerts will be there because you are virtually right across from the stage. You have the best seat in the house to view the show from the windows & the music is so loud it vibrates the windows so you'll need to love it. The music ran until about midnight & then it got much quieter.

Overall, a wonderful experience & the landlady was very helpful & supportive. She went out of her way to make sure the apartment was ready for me.

Sending Deep Appreciation & Blessings to Kaye!!

Brilliant location right in the centre of the town

  • 4 of 5

A small bijou apartment right on the central square. Great atmosphere and a lot of history. Plenty of cafe's restaurants and bars for watching the world go by. The apartment is comfortable and has all you could need. The nights can be noisy but to be expected from such a central location. Carcassonne is a great location for a short break and the apartment excellent value or money. The owner is really helpful and couldn't do more to ensure a great stay including a lovely bottle of wine in the fridge. Thanks for a great stay.

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to review our apartment. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. One way of helping with any noise at night , is making sure that you close the shutters once you want to retire. During the day, the windows on to the square give you a lovely overview of French life. We hope to see you again in our home way from home.

Stay in Carcassonne

  • 4 of 5

A lovely little apartment overlooking Le Place Carnot. The square is full of little cafes and bars and is a lovely place to while away a few mornings or afternoons. The apartment is a short walk away from the walled city which is a must see and probably most peoples reason for visiting Carcassonne.

However the newer part of the town is also well worth spending some time in it is less touristy and properly French with lots of interesting shops, squares and architecture. The Canal Du Midi is just across town and a trip up or down the canal is a lovely way to spend an afternoon and quite reasonably priced. All in all we had a great time here and would recommend it.

Step straight into French provincial life in our beautiful apartment. The apartment is right in the centre of Carcassonne's Bastide St. Louis, and just a short walk from many sights, including the fairy tale medieval Cité and the Canal du Midi. By far the best place in town to stay for the Christmas festivities, overlooking the beautiful ice rink, icicle-covered fountain and pretty Christmas market. Grandstand view of Ice Spectaculars and the illuminations each evening at dusk. Numerous restaurants and cafés in the square itself and around. Boulangeries, pharmacies, supermarket, ATMs in the square. Easy train ride to other towns - Toulouse, Narbonne, Albi, Limoux and many more. In the summer take a half hour bus ride to a popular recreational lake nearby. Car not necessary but if you have one explore the Cathar castles and the vineyards of Languedoc (coaches go to both in the summer), the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean coast.
