Best location in Cortona with best, most amazing views.

  • 4 of 5

Fantastic historic apartment on the best street to be on. Cortona is hilly but this on almost the only flat street, close to eating, sights and car drop off. Wonderfully, our host Jennifer met us at the Piazza Garibaldi drop-off point after winding our way up. She took time to show us to the apt, where to eat as well as all the parking options around the town.

Note, one of the twin/single rooms is only accessable thru the master bedroom. And, minor point, bring soap/shampoo or buy it right nearby.

Be prepared for the most amazing views from this place!

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 5 old friends recently spent a week at Ermengilda House, using it as a base for day trips to the hill towns of Tuscany and Umbria. We wanted an in-town location so we wouldn't have to get back into the car and drive if we wanted to go out for a restaurant meal. That said, the kitchen at Ermengilda was so fabulous, we spent quite a few nights cooking our own meals from delicious local ingredients! The whole house is terrific - very comfortable, extremely roomy, beautifully decorated - and the view! When you sit in the livingroom - or up on the roof terrace - you feel like you're in a glider, sailing above the Valdichiana with the lake in the distance. The owners were gracious, friendly and extremely helpful. One of our party became ill and Jennifer, Saviero's fiancee and a Canadian by birth, took it upon herself to fetch medicine and arrange a doctor's visit, if necessary. The house has wifi, and a TV, tho' we never watched. With 3 showers, 1 tub, countless WCs, bidets and a washing machine, we were all quite clean and comfortable. The main house can sleep 8, and the lower apartment can handle 2-4 more, making it a great choice for families and groups of friends. The stairs, while numerous, did not present an obstacle to our group of 60-somethings. We took the train up from Rome, then hopped a taxi van up to the house. We parked our rental car (which we picked up in Arezzo, another easy train ride away), just down the hill in a large, free and safe public lot. Cortona is a great town - lovely shops, restaurants and quite possibly the most beautiful painting in the universe, Fra Angelico's Annunciation in the Diocesan Museum - which we happily explored from top to bottom. We would all go back to Ermengilda House in a heartbeat! It truly was perfect in every way.
