This cottage met all of our needs and then some. The rental is well equipped and comfortable, with a kitchen full of all necessary supplies for a week of cooking and cozy bedroom and living room furniture for relaxing. Location is prime, with access and views of the water and proximity to all Westport gems: Allens Pond, Horseneck, restaurants, etc. We were so grateful to the owners for generously sharing their kayaks, and enjoyed several paddles around the river. The home was meticulously clean and well maintained. Truly this cottage felt like a home, and we are counting down until we can return again.
We have rented several nice places in Westport, but returned here for the second time because of the location, west-facing view of the river, ability to kayak, and the quality of the accommodations. You can sleep in the master bedroom with the glass doors open and the river breeze blowing over you. The deck is spacious and great for grilling and eating out. Inside the furniture is nice for relaxing and reading or watching video. The library has something for everyone. You can read a mystery or that great novel you always wished you had. Good selection of non-fiction as well. The neighborhood is lovely. We biked often and kayaked several times. (The owners let you use their kayaks.) Handy washer and dryer in the basement and the kitchen layout is good for cooking and well-stocked with pans, etc. It is a quick drive to Horseneck beach where we body surfed every afternoon. The local vineyard is well worth a visit and has concerts on Friday nights in the summer. We only stayed a week but would have liked to stay for two. The homeowners called us the first night to make sure everything was alright and were timely with information and returning the safety deposit. We strongly recommend staying at this house.
Comfortable, well equipped house with plenty of room, bicycles and kayaks, and a short walk to the Westport River. Short drive to Horseneck Beach. House is air conditioned and has a wonderful deck from which one gets both lovely breezes and a terrific view. Owner is lovely and helpful.
If you are looking for a lovely house near the water in a quiet country setting to spend your vacation, this house is the place for you. Our family absolutely loves this house and we come back every year.
It is fully equipped with all the amenities. Beautiful kitchen and bath. Bedrooms are ample with excellent mattresses. Living areas are very comfortable with lots room for relaxing. The large deck is perfect to relax with your morning coffee and take in the beautiful view of the Westport River or an afternoon cocktail to watch the amazing sunsets.Very quiet area for birdwatching and convening with nature. Wonderful for kayaking or boating with beaches nearby. Westport has wondering full restuarants and shops in a country setting. Newport is only 45 minutes away.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this Westport property. It is off the beaten tourist path, which was a plus for us. Our objective was to get away from it all and relax. The property was warm and inviting, very clean and modern. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. We were fortunate enough to meet them on the last day of our stay.
We didn't get a chance to use the provided kayaks and bicycles -- maybe next time, because we definitely would like to return here.
As previous reviews state, it is close to Horseneck Beach. Our activities also included wine tasting at Westport Rivers and Sakonnet Vineyards (www.coastalwinetrail.com), golfing in Newport, and overall relaxing.
Lee's Supermarket is great grocery store. I recommend shopping there for provisions. Restaurants we enjoyed: Bittersweet Farm, Bayside (5 minutes away), the snack bar at the Westport Yacht Club.
We arrived in the dark of night and the directions given by Steve brouight us directly to the cottage. The cottage was exactly as described. Waking the next morning to the river view, was a wonderful way to start our vacation. The house was very clean, comfortable and homey. Everything needed for cooking and outdoor activities was provided. The location is convient to shopping, restaurants, and recreation yet very secluded and private. We plan to rent this cottage again on our next trip to the Westport area.
