Conveniently situated a short walk from the town centre and harbour and just a few hundred meters from the dramatic coastal paths, this spacious self contained apartment is situated above the Woodlands guest house. It occupy's the entire top floor with plenty of space for 4/5 people. Being on the top floor it overlooks the acre woodland gardens and boasts some stunning valley views across the town and out over the Bristol Channel. You will be just a short drive away from the fabulous sandy surfing beaches of Woolacombe, Putsborough, Croyde and Saunton. Local restaurants and galleries are just a short walk away, including Damien Hurst’s Verity statue and his restaurant, The Quay, on the harbour and Thomas Carr's Michelin star restaurant at The Olive Rooms.

The spacious apartment is recently refurbished and very well appointed. It has two ensuite bedrooms; one room has a super king bed (twin on request) with en-suite shower room and sea views in the distance. The bedroom is newly furnished in oak and the bed has a luxury mattress to ensure a good night’s sleep. The second bedroom has a double bed, also with en-suite shower room and woodland views up the valley. There is also a family bathroom with bath/overhead shower, basin and WC. The apartment has a very comfortable newly furnished lounge / dinner area with free-sat TV and Blu-ray player. Off of the lounge is a cosy snug with a Victorian day bed, a very comfortable "love chair" and a good selection of books. The kitchen/breakfast room has just been refurbished and fitted with new appliances including an electric fan over, gas hob, fridge freezer and dishwasher. The kitchen also has a 4 seat breakfast table and a window seat with great views.

The apartment has it's own self contained gas fired central heating system and hot water.

The property sits in just under an acre of grounds and has a beautiful and well established landscaped garden at the rear of the house that leads down to the West Wilder Brook. The communal gardens are shared with guests and owners and is very secluded with space for all. There is parking on the drive for 6 cars with further unrestricted parking on the quiet road outside.

Treetops at Woodlands is an ideal getaway for those looking for a relaxing, quiet holiday base, yet close to the restaurants and bars benefiting the town.

About Jon & Caroline

We recently purchased the Woodlands and relocated our family to North Devon in early 2015. We are a family of five who have wholeheartedly taken on this amazing property in this vibrant seaside town. Living in this area is an absolute joy and we thoroughly explore and utilise all the amazing coast paths and Moore land in our spare time.

We are very active and that has given us local knowledge on the various walks, runs and cycling routes, which we are keen to share to exploring guests.

Why Jon & Caroline chose North Devon

We have always loved this part of the country and being so close to the coast path and beautiful beaches, yet with all the benefits of the town, Ilfracombe was the perfect location.

One of the amazing things about this town is its constant offerings of events throughout the year. From the annual art trail to touring and local theatre productions. The harbours extravaganzas in the height of the season, more than can be mentioned here.

Brilliantly, the town is easily walked around with most places and landmarks easily accessed. Plus a regular bus service which runs every 10 minutes to the town of Barnstaple.

There are some very popular restaurants, which people travel far to dine at. The popular Tunnels beaches venue is just 5 minutes walk from our property and is increasingly busy with wedding celebrations every weekend. It is a stunning location!

What makes this apartment unique

Woodlands is set in the sought after Torrs Park area of the town where many Victorian gentlemen chose to construct fine detached properties as seaside homes in the late 1800s. As such many fine villas and homes are located in this part of the town. It is within 1 mile of Ilfracombe Harbour and is close to the famous Tunnels Beach and Torrs Park coastal footpath.

The property enjoys views towards the Cairn Nature Reserve and the Western part of Ilfracombe over the rooftops towards the sea in the distance. The property is a fine example of Victorian architecture having been originally built as gentlemen's residence and overlooks its own mature gardens of about one acre that slope down to a stream.

The property is now arranged as a spacious 7 en-suite bedroom B&B, plus two self-contained apartments. The lower ground floor apartment is occupied by the owners and their family. The 2nd floor apartment has been converted into a self contained holiday let called Treetops at Woodlands. The property has been refurbished in recent years and benefits from gas fired radiator central heating and is in good decorative order throughout.

The accommodation is arranged on four floors with many of the rooms overlooking the grounds.

  • Bedroom 1 is a spacious bedroom and has a superkingsize zip-link bed. The mattress is a top quality Sealy Windemere and is extremely comfortable. The bedroom is furnished with new oak furniture and has built in wardrobes with plenty of hanging space. The en-suite has a walk in electric shower, basin and WC. The room is duel aspect with views over the trees to the harbour and the Bristol Channel and the garden and valley. Bedroom 2 has a solid pine double bed with storage underneath. The room is equipped with pine furniture including a wardrobe and draws. There are bedside tables with lights. There is a lovely view up the wooded valley from this room. The en-suite has a walk in shower, a basin and WC. There is a further single bed located in the snug.

Fantastic apartment, all the home comforts anybody could need,few stairs to negotiate but not a problem to my wife and I and we are in our late sixties. Once again many thanks.

This is a very spacious , well equipped apartment.

We had a party of five and there was ample room for us all. There are three bathrooms, two are ensuite to the bedrooms. The kitchen is large and also has a breakfast area. The lounge has two very large sofas and also a more formal dining area. This made for comfortable viewing during the duration of the Olympics at Rio. The apartment has obviously been refurbished recently as everything is clean, tidy and in very good order. It also has some nice touches for example a shelf full of holiday books to read. The garden is large with a badminton net, recliners and a seating area next to a lovely stream at the bottom. The apartment has the added advantage of being very close to all the main attractions in Ilfracombe without the parking problems. We had two cars and there were always parking spaces available. The owners are very welcoming, attentive and friendly. I recommend this apartment, we had a super week in this beautiful part of Devon.

Very nice spacious property with friendly hosts.

The property is in a quiet, salubrious area of Ilfracombe a few minutes walk to the cliffs and a Supermarket. It is cosy and spacious at the same time and although there were 5 of us, we found the apartment large enough to feel a lot of personal space. It was easy to find a place to park either in the parking spaces within the property or out side on the road. The garden and surrounding areas afforded a lot of green.

The property is well furnished with very good quality pieces and very clean and well presented. The kitchen is very well equipped and colour coordinated. My favourite spot in the apartment was the cosy kitchen window seat affording fabulous views onto the garden. Jon and Caroline are kind, considerate hosts. We loved the North Devon coast and would hope to stay at Woodlands again in the future.

A very well presented spacious apartment, highly recommend and would book again

There was a personal key to the front door and we could come and go as we pleased. The kitchen and utensils well stocked and very clean with a lovely view from the kitchen window, especially at night seeing all the lights. The most comfortable high, large bed like mine at home, just great. Clean toilet facilities. Modern furniture all through with a comfortable lounge and TV. The apartment was placed in a lovely part of Ilfracombe, just out of the town but you can easily walk in, passing a well stocked Lidel store, Theater, park, restaurants, harbour and plenty of coastal paths, which we walked to Lee and Watermouth. Ideally situated as my daughter and her family were caravaning holiday in Mortehoe, and they came to visit. us and we walked into the harbour

Weather is always a talking pass time. On our arrival it was raining but after a couple of days warmed up quickly short mini heat wave.

When visiting Ilfracombe would certainly book this apartment again, and could have used the B and B side of the business if decided to extend my holiday further for a couple of days extra.

Treetops is lovely, well furnished and comfortable,spotlessly clean with lovely views of the gardens and valley. The owners are lovely,helpful and friendly. Easy walking distance to town- hill not too bad for return trip! Would certainly return if re-visiting Ilfracombe.

Spacious, good quality accommodation and well situated.

The accommodation is excellent quality and fitted out with everything you could want. As a couple there was more than enough room, and a family or two couples would fit in without any problems. Parking on the road is free and unrestricted. Dedicated parking is available, but the entrance is steep and reversing in is needed. The grounds are well tended with a huge variety of planting and some enormous trees. It is a 10 minute walk downhill into the centre of Ilfracombe, and a bit more walking back! Then you climb three flights of stairs to reach the apartment, so leg muscles get a good workout.

Try Giovanni's for a memorable Italian meal, and Nellie May's pantry on the high street for an even more memorable cream tea.

Jon was very friendly and clearly cares that his guests have a good holiday.

Would we recommend and/or go back again? You bet.

Located on the Ilfracombe Torrs we are only a 3 minutes walk to the dramatic North Devon Coast Path and only a 5 minute walk to the famous Ilfracombe Tunnels Beaches. The Promenade and Harbour area, with it's numerous bars, bistro's, cafes and restaurants is a 10 minute stroll down the hill. From here you can catch the boat to Lundy Island, take a high speed sea safari or a pleasure cruise. Explore some of the finest coast path walking, going in both directions, right from your front door. Whether you like surfing, kayaking or just basking in the sun, Ilfracombe is only a short drive away from some of the best beaches in the country including Woolacombe (10 mins), Putsborough (20 mins), Croyde (20 mins) and Saunton (25 mins). Exmoor zoo, the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur park and Watermouth Castle are all nearby. Located on the edge of Exmoor other days out include Lynton and Lynmouth with it's water powered Victorian cliff railway and dramatic views and river walks. Clovelly, Hartland Abbey & Gardens, RHS Garden Rosemoor and NT Arlington Court are also only a drive away.
