My wife and I felt in love with Las Terrenas in 1987, at this time we were living in St Barthelemy. We came back in 2004 for permanent living and built Villa San Lucas in 2006 to raise there our two daughters . We stopped living there permanently because of the studies of the kids, but we keep coming back frequently . We now live in St Marteen .
Dominique purchased this villa in 2006
We built Villa San Lucas with our experience of living in the Carribean.
the villa is pleasant to live in, fresh with a lot of open spaces and surrounded by nature, just a few steps from the nicest white sand beach of Las Ballenas and close to the attractions of Las Terrenas village.
VILLA SAN LUCAS is a villa of 360 m ² carefully decorated in a calm environment at a few meters of the most beautiful white sand beach of Las Terrenas. Everything was thought for your comfort and your well being: Beautiful closed and totally private property of 1500 m ² with its large swimming pool, large terrace, TV, DVD, Internet wifi, washing machine. Housekeeping included. All the rooms are air-conditioned.
And thank you very much for nice and beautiful villa. The villa was amazing and also Las Terrenas was better place to spent holiday than I excepted. Dominican people were lot more happier that finnish and although none of us speak spanish, we made many funny conversation with them.
The villa was good, there were anything what we need. Isabel arranged thing very well and the meals Wendy cooked were delicious.
Only minor problem was the oven, because any of us haven't used a gas oven before, so it take moment until we figured out how to use it:D It works great!!
After Dominican Republic it was quite a shock to return Finland where temperature was only plus four degrees.
Thank you for everything!
With kind regards,
We had a group of 5 adults on this trip and each one of us loved the Villa and staff. The Villa had arranged for Paul (Pablo) to drive us from the airport in SDQ to the Villa. He was waiting for us when we got off the plane and was very accommodating on our ride to the Villa. When we arrived at the Villa Isabelle was there to greet us and explain the house, staff, Las Terrenas and any rentals/excursions we might be interested in arranging. We had Wendy make us dinner a few nights while we were there, including upon our arrival we arranged for dinner to be prepared and a basket of food for us until we got to the grocery store. She is a fantastic cook, I mean FANSTASTIC, and we miss her Bananas Foster-delicious. She was always kind, helpful and had a smile on her face. As well, her brother Johnathon was our night guard. He was just as kind. If we were coming back late after dinner and drinks he would be there waiting to open the gate for us with a smile and a nice welcome. We never had any security issues and never felt any threat to our safety the entire week we were in Las Terrenas. The Villa itself was beautiful. The moment we arrived at the Villa we were in awe of the beauty of the villa itself, especially the design of the villa and the gardens. Everything was well maintained, manicured and clean. Many times when you arrive somewhere the pictures look nicer than the real thing, but this Villa was just as nice as the pictures if not better! We couldn’t be more pleased and I think it took all of us a few minutes to realize we weren’t dreaming and that was our home for the week. The open air house is a vacation dream. Every morning waking up and opening all the doors and windows was refreshing. The pool was perfect to take a dip in and beautiful to see right out your door. Wendy would prepare dinner for us on the outside dining table and we would have such a beautiful scene and delicious food right at the villa…you can’t ask for anything more than that! The bedrooms and bathrooms were great and well decorated. We do not have one complaint AT ALL of the Villa or its staff! The Fishing Village is a short walk away and is a nice place for dinner and drinks on the beach. The locals are very nice and eager to help you. All and all we would return to Las Terrenas and stay at the Villa San Lucas in a heartbeat! We never imagined that our trip would be as memorable and breathtaking as it was! Well done Staff at Villa San Lucas!
We had a marvelous time at Villa San Lucas and really enjoyed our stay. The property was beautiful and just right for two large families. Las Terrenas was beautiful, with gorgeous uncrowded beaches. The people were friendly and inviting and the food was some of the best and most varied we have ever experienced in the Caribbean. We had a beach side table with no waiting just about every night, and some really exceptional regional and international food. The villa staff were friendly and responsive. The house was comfortable, well equipped and great to hang out in with great outdoor space. I would definitely recommend to others, and would consider going back.
We had a fabulous stay at this beautiful house in April. We were two families of five with six children ranging from 10 to 15. From the very start this was a very easy vacation to plan. Dominique was quick in her responses to us no matter what the inquiry. Everything worked seamlessly from transportation to and from the airport, being informed by the house manager, reserving day trips, and organizing our meals. We didn't want to stay in an all-inclusive resort and this definitely fit the bill. Everything was done for us but we didn't have the throngs of people, had our own private house and pool, and had a fun area to explore. The large number of French people residing there gives Las Terrenas a pleasant vibe of mixing cultures. Many Europeans and Canadians vacation there as well so it felt off the beaten path, which is exactly what we were trying to find. We felt very safe and let the kids walk to and from the house and the beach by themselves. We did not rent an ATV or car but found that we really didn't need one. We could easily walk to town and the beach and if we didn't want to walk, for $2 we jumped on the back of one of the many motorcycle taxis that were zooming around. We had Wendy and her lovely assistant prepare breakfast and dinner for us and paid a little extra to have them do the shopping. This was the best decision of the week. With 10 people it was cheaper and easier than going out all the time, dealing with the shopping, and pleasing the many personalities Wendy and Lady put out a feast that was AMAZING. It was so relaxing sitting around the pool or living room while someone else took care of the shopping, the cooking, and the dishes. Wendy and Lady also cleaned everyday and made the beds. We lived like royalty and enjoyed every minute. The house was large and comfortable with room to spread out. We used Flora Tours to do a day trip to Los Haitises and the three beaches. Both tours were easy to reserve and ran like clockwork. We hired a Flora Tour driver to take us to Playa Coson to spend the whole day there and then he brought us back. It was a very pretty beach with a good restaurant (Casa Luis). We also loved Sol y Mar for afternoon munchies at the end of the road in Playa Bellenas and went to the Borracho Taco every night for sunset relaxation. We could not have been happier and would go back in a heartbeat! Everyone was friendly, helpful and it was muy relaxing!
We traveled to Lass Terranas with 4 children, ages 3-12, and 4 adults in early 2015(jan or feb?)
I can't say enough good things about the property, the staff, and the area! We opted to have Wendy to cook for us, two meals a day, and wow what great meals they were! Wendy's father is a local fisherman, bringing us fresh fish and lobster throughout the trip. They were such wonderful chefs and it was incredible to not have to worry about meals or spend valuable vacation time preparing the food.
The house was the perfect size for our large group. Everyone had plenty of space to move around and have their own space of needed. The beds were all very comfortable.
The conceriege was such a great help throughout the trip.
The locals were so kind and we all felt very safe! We were able to rent ATVs to travel around the area, get groceries, etc. The beach was a very short walk and was so amazing!
I would go back in a heart beat!!
We spent the week of our annual family vacation -- three generations (two grandparents, two daughters, one son-in-law, and two teen-aged grandchildren) at Villa San Lucas. This is a lovely villa and surrounding garden, excellently maintained, with a pool and ample open space to sit and read, sun oneself, or simply relax. A wonderful extra was the housekeeper/cook Wendy -- and her assistant, Lady -- who took good care of the house, and also prepared delicious meals, which were not only varied in menu (according to daily conferences about our preferences), but were artistically served, as well. We also appreciated Dominique's -- and Isabelle's -- handling of advance arrangements for the transfers to and from the airport (Paul was a careful and safe driver, and a pleasant companion on the airport journeys) and for the food already in the refrigerator on our arrival. It was a bit further to the beach than I had anticipated -- although if I had read the description more carefully prior to our arrival, I would have realized that 200 meters away is, in fact, not next door. Also, we would have happily throttled the neighbor's rooster, had we had the chance. But these were only minor inconveniences, and our family would certainly recommend this property as a great place for a relaxing vacation. Incidentally, we would also recommend the excursion to Los Haitises National Park, a beautiful and fascinating place. The younger generations went snorkeling and zip-lining, and we all spent much time in the pool. I would want to emphasize again the care paid by the owner, Dominique, to our questions prior to arrival and the careful attention to all the promised details, making the trip quite worry-free. Thanks.
The description of this property is accurate and we enjoyed being here very much. The house was very comfortable for our extended family of 6 adults. After the neighboring roosters let us know morning had arrived, we enjoyed our coffee as we sat near the pool on very comfortable outdoor furniture. A morning dip in the pool and a lazy lunch often followed. We often walked to the ocean after lunch -- a 10-minute walk. The beaches outside of town (where the villa is located) were the best -- clean and peaceful, with lots of sand. Nearby were little places for drinks/snacks or nicer lunches. We quickly learned to embrace island time and not be in a hurry for meals. We were usually seated outside and just enjoyed the beautiful sun.
We did rent a car (Sixt at El Catey airport) but only used it mostly just to get groceries. Driving was a bit on the wild side in Las Terrenas! But the car was essential for getting groceries, as we cooked in the villa many nights. We also walked into town a number of days to get breakfast provisions at a very nice bakery -- Boulangerie Francaise. All in all, though, we enjoyed being outside of town (where villa is) a great deal more and we were very happy we chose to stay where we did. (The town packed with scooters flying all over the place and lots of noise.)
We did ask Wendy to cook 2 evenings and she was a great cook and it was a wonderful treat. I would recommend that you hire her to cook (clean up included!) at least a time or two. Those evenings were very special.
Wendy also cleaned each morning for a number of hours and Jonathan sat guard duty at night. Each day refills of bottled water were delivered. People came to clean the pool 3 times while we were there as well and another person came and cleaned up the lawn at least twice during our week-long stay. Everyone was friendly and hospitable ad we enjoyed the unusual experience of being waited on!
We so enjoyed just relaxing that we only did one tour-type outing. We went whale watching with Kim Beddall (http://www.whalesamana.com/) and enjoyed it thoroughly. However, do note that the trip to do whale watching required an hour's drive. We hired a driver rather than drive ourselves.
All in all, highly recommended. It was hard to return to snow!
VILLA SAN LUCAS is located in a luxuriant property of palm trees and tropical flowers. Walking distance from the nicest beach of Las Terrenas 'Playa Las Ballenas'. Many beach restaurants and activities close by.
Arrival of the local fishermen's boats everyday before your BBQ party. The Peninsula of Samana has a lot to offer ranging from waterfalls, natural parks, rain forests, whales watching (from Feb to April), deserted sandy beaches and most of all: the famous kindness of Dominican people...
Other activities: kite surfing, horseback riding, mini golf, snorkeling, dive and more.
