About the property

7 bedroom 4 bathroom period property with mountain and hill views

Wake up to nothing but bird song at this very tranquil location on the edge of both the Snowdonia National Park and the Cambrian Mountain range. A traditional Welsh Longhouse and converted stables dating back over 400 years packed full of all the traditional features you'd expect from a property of this period, but having lovingly been restored includes all your creature comforts including a very swish new kitchen and bathroom with Victorian roll top bath and flower head shower. Enjoy our welcome hamper on arrival when booking for a whole week. We recently renovated the property (Spring 2015) to cater for 14 people in comfort . The brand new kitchen is very spacious, perfect for large groups to cook and just hang out in, we also have two living rooms and a dining room that seats 16. Outside boasts a large seating area. wood fired hot tub, pizza oven and 4 acres of woodland, meadow and babbling streams to explore with numerous walks for all abilities from the door. We're in the process of turning a barn into an outdoor cinema (contact us for more on that). At dusk, pull up a chair outside and watch the bats that weave in and out of the trees, and then stargaze to yours hearts content, the night sky is breathtaking.Close to the beaches at Aberdyfi and 20 minutes from Snowdonia. Ideal for families or adult groups there is plenty of space for outdoor games and summer bbqs. E is also a living willow tunnel and dome for the kids to explore as well a large climbing frame and swings. you want to see what we've been up to lately, get to know us a bit more, see some more photos and stay in touch then search for fronlwydfarmholidaycottage on Facebook. We live at the very far end of the property and are on hand if you need any help or assistance. We are 'World Host' accredited. Walk for miles not seeing a soul and just listen to the sound of birdsong and Buzzards and Red Kites circling above. Take an expedition off to find the stone circles on the hill side above or just take off for Fronlwyd is right in the middle of a beautiful unspoilt valley that is a tributary to the river Dyfi, a world famous salmon river and internationally renowned 'biosphere' for flauna and flora. There is hill walking from our door, at the head of the valley is the sources of the rivers Severn and Wye with their respective long distance footpaths beginning here. A ten minute drive away is the Hafren forest which has miles of walking and cycle tracks through it and there is sailing fifteen minutes away at Llyn Cllewedog. Depending on how adventurous you want to get you go pony trekking on the beach at Borth, Canadian canoe down the Dyfi river, kayaking at the Welsh national kayaking centre near Llangollen and of course Snowdownia is on our doorstep - my favourite mountain to walk is cader idris which is one of the highest peak in Wales and is just as spectacular as Snowdon with the added benefit being without the crowds - it's about half an hour from Fronlwyd. The area is famous for mountain biking and Machnylleth, 20 minutes away, has four downhill trails that will challenge any rider. A little further afield is the longest zip wire in Europe, which is something like a mile long! Several guests have been on this and said that it was a great experience. Also rave reviews continue for the underground caves 'Bounce Below'. If this is all a bit too 'extreme' there is stacks to other things to do that is more in keeping with the tourist scene, castles a plenty, narrow gauge railways, art galleries etc There is plenty of space for bikes at Fronlwyd with a garage to lock them up in and pressure washer available. By prior arrangement though we are happy to accept internet shops here, speak to us first and we'll put all your shopping away ready for your arrival. Tesco and Asda deliver. We can also provide local meats from cattle grazed less than 8 miles can even tell you their name if you wanted to know! 2 of the 4 bedrooms with single beds in are zip and link beds meaning they can be turned into super king sized if desired - please state this when booking

About Adam Rowe

My name is Adam and my wife, Vicky, and I moved to mid Wales in 2011 in search of a different way of life to raise our family. Although I work in the corporate world I often work from home and I'm more than happy to assist guests and offer any advice on places to go, walks etc. Both Vicky and I are keen runners both road and trail and can recommend plenty of runs if anyone is interested.

Vicky is a bridal dress designer, Vicky Rowe bridal, and works from home too.

Adam Rowe purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Adam Rowe chose Wales

I've known the area all my life, having spent many family holidays, scout trips and school field trips in snowdownia. We were looking for somewhere that was rural and secluded, without being remote, and had bags of character. It was love at first site when we saw Fronlwyd and although she needed a lot of love to bring her into the 21st century we knew there was a beauty of place underneath the 1950s decor.

What makes this cottage unique

Fronlwyd is a longhouse with an oak crook frame dating back four hundred years, with original slate flagstones in the kitchen and huge inglenook complete with bread oven. Longhouses were built when the farmer would live in close proximity to his animals and you can still see the door way from the farmers bedroom into what would have been a mezzanine above the stock, so he could check on them easily and ensure no one was rustling them. Some of the original floorboards also remain and make a very interesting, if undulating, floor in one of the bedrooms. Outside there is a lovely view over the meadow towards the hills on the other side of the valley, with several small streams flowing through the property. Whilst the house has been tamed the four acres of grounds consists of meadow that sheep graze on in the summer with the remainder being wild woodland, great for birdlife and den making. A future project will see the farm's former orchard returned to production with local apple varieties that would have once grown here.

At the time of writing this, late winter 2017, the cinema barn is nearing completion. Guests are welcome to bring dvds, blue ray, 4K HD and 3D (active) movies with them to play on the cinema, which is made available by arrangement with the owner. The barn is unheateda nod is still a working building so think of strawbales and fairly lights. As time goes by I'm sure will we improve its comfort levels. Photos to be posted in due course.

A lovely house in a fab location

  • 5 of 5

A great time was had by all - 8 adults, 8 children and a dog! House was spacious, very well equipped and in a great location, with a number of walks from the front door.

We all enjoyed the hot tub and pizza oven, despite the freezing snow outside!

Adam was very welcoming and very accommodating and I am sure we will be back next year.

Fantastic Large House - character, hot tub, pizza!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful house, gardens and spot! Three families arrived for a New Year family celebration week, and enjoyed hot tub and pizza oven on New Year's eve! The water was still warm, with a quick top up of fire, on New Year's day for another dip. The house is fantastic, spacious and comfortable, but not too fussy or prissy. The funky decor and down to earth feeling made us feel at home. Adam and Vicky were great hosts as well with good communication and guidance by email pre-arrival. The house swallowed up six adults, seven kids and many dogs. Loads to do around the house and garden and plenty to do in the area provided you like beautiful countryside. Highly recommend for a group holiday. Would definitely recommend, and hope we have the chance to go back in the future.

Excellent property, fantastic location and a very warm welcome

  • 5 of 5

We booked the house and canvas bell tent for a long weekend and were extremely satisfied with both. On arrival we were met by Adam, who is very friendly and helpful, he was on hand all weekend but didn't impose and let us get on with our own thing. The house is beautiful, everything was clean, it has a large well equipped kitchen, plenty of bathrooms and very comfortable beds. There are some great local walks although we didn't explore far, we were content relaxing in the garden.

Don't forget to bring ingredients for the wood fired pizza oven or your swimming costume. Our highlight was star gazing under a clear night sky while floating in the hot tub, you could even make out the milky way.

In short we'd recommend this property and would definitely go back.
