Spa Cottage sits in Braithwaite, a pretty Lakeland village in the North Lakes tucked between Grisedale Pike and Skiddaw where the unspoilt Newlands Dale joins the Valley of Derwent. The cottage stands in a row of old stone cottages dating back to the early 19th century at the side of the Coledale beck. Bassenthwaite Lake and Derwent are within 5 minutes and the Valleys of Borrowdale, Buttermere and the Whinlatter Forest (Go Ape/Mountain bike trails) are close by. The village store carries a comprehensive range of grocery products, newspapers and off licence goods. The Coledale, The Middle Ruddings and The Royal Oak pubs (all in the village and within walking distance) serve excellent food and children are welcome.

Broadband and Wi-Fi is connected and free. Private rear garden. A warm cottage heated by storage radiators with a wood burning stove in the living room for cold evenings. Summer (April-Sept) changeover day Saturday. October-March short breaks also available (Sat-Tues or Tues-Sat) - contact owners directly for relevant prices.

Outside: Pretty lakeland slate patio garden to the rear, complete with garden furniture. Beyond this is a further paved area with communal drying facilities plus fuel store and bin area. To the front is a small garden part paved and planted with bench seat to watch the world go by. Utility Room: Under stairs store room with washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and vacuum cleaner.etc. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen is included in the rental price and for longer term rentals (more than 7 days) fresh linen is provided weekly. Bath mat and tea towels are provided. Towels are not included. Bedding is not provided for the travel cot. Other: Separate dinning room.

Lovely stay in perfect village and cottage.

The pictures of this cottage do not do it justice. We had a lovely stay for a week in November. The cottage is perfect base for all the Lakes has to offer. Fire in living room is perfect after a cold walk.

The village location is perfect with shop across the road and 3 pubs with 5 mins walking distance. Very dog friendly place to stay.

Thanks we will definitely be coming back to stay again (almost want to give bad review so no one else books it up!)

Fabulous cottage, very welcoming and warm

We rented Spa Cottage for a week in September and found it very welcoming, warm and comfortable. It is well equipped for everything you need and the courtyard garden was very welcome. The cottage is conveniently located by the village shop and there are two good pubs in the village.

There are several excellent walking routes straight out of the front door, and Coledale is a walker's delight..!

Will certainly be recommending Spa Cottage to family and friends.

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location

I would have given this cottage 5 stars but for a couple of simple fixes.

The cottage is beautifully finished and facilities are all there that you need. There is also a fab little friendly shop straight opposite which sells most essentials. The village is lovely and the royal oak pub has fantastic food and friendly staff. They are also dog friendly but only allowed in between 3pm and 6pm. The coledale is dog friendly all day.

Please be aware that parking is a nightmare outside this cottage. There isn't enough space for all the properties and the shop staff and visitors also park there. We only managed to get outside the cottage once in the week. There is a washing machine but no dryer and the enclosed garden is a small yard but perfectly manageable.

2 quick fixes... There needs to be enough wood etc for the fire for the first night. Really annoying having to go out and find wood after a 5hr drive. Secondly it would be nice to have some tea bags, coffee sachets and a pint of milk in the fridge for new arrivals. This is the personal touch we have experienced in other cottages and it makes a massive impact.

This is a fab cottage and we would defo recommend it to others and we would defo book again. The lake district is a beautiful party of the world and braithwaite is a lovely part of it.

Owner's Response: So glad the cottage met with your approval. Sadly you don't seem to have discovered the outhouse in the rear yard where the tumbler drier now resides; this is mentioned in our e-mailed access instructions but I shall endeavour to highlight this more clearly. The outhouse is also where the store of wood is kept and there was a bag of logs there during your visit. I wish I could change the parking arrangements, difficult during the day sometimes I cannot deny, and you were in Braithwaite during the Bank Holiday week. But we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

It is possible to do many walks from the cottage without having to drive first. Some are as follows:

Approx 1000ft – Barrow, Sail and Coledale. Whinlatter forest, Seat How and the Lords Seat.

2000-3000ft – Coledale Horseshoe and Skiddaw.

All these and many more can be done on a circular walk.

The Whinlatter centre has a unique play trail for children as well as its renown purpose built red Altura and blue quercus mountain bike trails

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday. Arrival time is 3.00pm and departure time is 10.00am.

A deposit of 25% is required when booking; payment is most easily received by BACS transfer. The balance must be paid at least 6 weeks before the date of the start of the rental
