Orchard Cottage is set on the fringe of Tansley a typical Derbyshire village. It is a great place to relax with family or friends and provides plenty of space for everyone. The Living room has a cosy Log burner for winter nights, the Summer room has dining area for 8 and has French doors which open onto a patio and views over the orchard. Outside there is Garden Furniture and a pretty garden in front of the cottage which is enclosed.
The property was spacious, clean, well decorated and comfortable - much better than the photos on the website show: the dining room is open plan from the kitchen, which was great - with doors opening on to the patio. The lounge is large and upstairs the beds were really comfortable with great mattresses and lovely linen. There is a separate laundry room with a large freezer and an extra fridge as well as a washing machine. It's in a great location, really near loads of stuff to do with kids, and the Tansley Tavern nearby is a lovely pub to eat in.
There were a number of small things that needed fixing in the house - but we contacted the owner about them when we came back and so am sure they are all fixed now! (She would have done it during the holiday, but they weren't big enough for us to worry about it during the week we were there). The only major issue for us was the neighbouring (friendly) dog leaving mess in the garden - it was messy when we arrived, and once we cleared it up the dog came back again. I have alerted the owner to this issue and she said she was going to sort it out. So with those things solved, I would definitely recommend this cottage for a family holiday and would have then given it 5 stars.
We were a group of family and friends who met up to attend a funeral locally. We had a lovely stay and felt very much at home as the cottage was very comfortable and warm and would recommend for holidaymakers as it is in a very good location.
The house is lovely, very nicely decorated throughout. Clean and well equipped.
The bedrooms had comfortable beds. Twin bedrooms worked well for our party.
The living areas were great for our get together. Great size lounge and kitchen/dining room.
It was handy to have a utility room, cloakroom, and the little extras already in the house - milk, tea, coffee, kitchen roll, cling film, logs for the fire etc..
Would definitely recommend the house. The photos don't do it justice.
The only downside is that the water pipes for the electric shower run through one of the twin bedrooms. I think the pump is near that bedroom, therefore its quite noisy when someone uses the shower or hot water. However, it wasn't a problem, we just didn't have showers too early in the morning.
We had dinner at The Tavern pub down the road which was very nice.
Good location to visit the surround towns/ villages.
