The Henry's Fork Ranch offers guests 2 miles of private access to the renowned Henry's Fork of the Snake River. This section of river is very wadable or floatable, but most important , 80% of the fish caught off our banks measure 16 inches or more. The ranch is a 500 acre working cattle ranch that caters to the outdoor enthusiast. Ranch activities include fly fishing, bird watching, waterfowl hunting, sight seeing, relaxing, and cross country skiing. Since we offer one solitary cabin, you'll share the ranch with the host, cattle, horses and sheep, but no other guests.
Fishing on the Henry's Fork: The Henry's Fork of the Snake River is open year round for fishing. Most anglers prefer to fish with flies but the river allows rod casting as well. This stretch of the river is designated as a wild fishery so it has limits and restrictions. The fishery is very healthy and big Rainbow and Brown Trout are the norm for anglers.
Henry's Fork Ranch is in the middle of it all: The Henry's Fork Ranch is centrally located near many of the areas major attractions. Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are within a short drive. There is also Jackson Hole Wyoming, West Yellowstone and St. Anthony Sand Dunes. The ranch sits on the bank of the Henry's Fork but there are the South Fork of the Snake River, Madison River, Warm River, Fall River, Robison Creek, and numerous other streams. We also have major lakes like Henrys Lake, Island Park Reservoir, Hebgen Lake, and Ashton Reservoir to fish.
Year round activities: The ranch provides an environment for many migrating birds and waterfowl. Bird watchers come to see a wide variety of bird species such as Trumpeter Swans, Canada Geese, Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, Osprey and a wide variety of songbirds. Other activities include ATV riding, Golfing, Horseback riding, hiking, rafting, skiing and snowmobiling depending on the time of year. Waterfowl hunting is available on the ranch and big game hunting is nearby.

We booked this ranch stay several months before our summertime driving trip around the western states. After 3 weeks in standard hotel rooms, Henry's Fork Ranch was a fabulous respite from the routine. The Fuchs made us feel so much like family. From our initial greeting on arrival, to the daily visits after there work day, and to the 4 wheeler trips around the ranch and fishing spots. Then there was the family dinner which was such a pleasant surprise followed by an evening at the Rodeo. I wish every American could experience such a reality check.
The cabin had everything we could ever need, including a big back porch; perfect for lounging or visiting or spreading out all the fishing gear, and within earshot of the river.
This was a great place get away from it all and just what we were looking for.
Many of the guests who stay with us do become part of our family or at least the family of outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate nature, fun, good friends, natural wonders and simple pleasures. A friendly dinner and a summer rodeo are all the ingredients that were required to make ranch guests into close friends who we look forward to have stay with us again. The memories of catching your first Henry's Fork Trout or the challenge of stocking a large trout that has broken your leader before. These are the memories and lessons that the river will give you for free.
Our stay at Henry's Fork Ranch was everything that we could have wished for! The ranch was located off of the highway, away from the noise of busy traffic. The cabin was cozy and perfect for our vacation for two, but could have very easily accommodated our big family of six. The owners were very friendly and helpful and even provided homemade cookies for our arrival and departure! We enjoyed our stay so much and look forward to revisiting in the future.
A comfortable stay at Henry’s Fork Ranch
I spent one week in April at the cabin on the ranch. The cabin was well provisioned and extremely comfortable. The property bordering the river was beautiful and afforded me the opportunity to access good trout water. I would definitely consider returning.
Cozy Cabin Getaway
We highly recommend staying at this cozy cabin. The cabin is very well equipped, clean, and surprisingly comfortable. Although there were just the two of us, the cabin can accommodate several more. Bill and Teresa could not have been better hosts. We enjoyed talking with them about the rich history of the ranch, their interesting lives in general, and the plentiful local area attractions. We took them up on many of their suggestions for places to go and things to see and do. We were not disappointed. This cabin sits on a working ranch so many animals come and go in close proximity to the cabin. For us this was a plus because we enjoyed watching the animals and hearing their different sounds. We found having them around to be relaxing. We took many day trips to Yellowstone National Park which is a 1.5 hour drive away and to Teton National Park which is a 1.25 hour drive away. This property is ideal for those who fish, hunt, or simply seek a peaceful retreat
Excellent stay - we'll be back!
Wonderful central location in easy driving distance from many national parks and monuments. We also fished and rafted the Snake River that runs through the property The Cabin is fresly renovated and clean, and it is well stocked with food and amenities. Beautiful natural surroundings of a working ranch, with cattle and sheep in nearby pastures and the sounds of Canada geese, Sandhill cranes, and other wild birds in the evening. All is topped off with Bill and Teresa's hospitality, which is truly wonderful.
Henry's Fork Ranch - August, 2017
Stayed there two nights: August 15 - August 16. A very unique experience hosted by two charming people: Bill and Teresa Fuchs. Were treated like long-lost family members in all respects by the Fuchs, and by Gemma, Hunter, and Snuff, the family dogs. What looks like an old cabin outside is charmingly-restored inside. Everything we needed was there. Grocery in Ashton had everything we needed. Had pizza on the second night in St. Anthony's which was good along with a huckleberry milk shake which was fantastic. You know when the sun was coming up when Bill's sheep start to "baaa." They are the "grounds keepers" near the cabin.
We came there to wade fish Henry's Fork of the Snake River. We did catch fish; all small browns and rainbows during the day. The river is generally smooth-bottomed with no drop-off holes. However...the days we were fishing there was a strong flow, making it very difficult to wade against the current. Once in waist-deep moving into shallower water upstream could be a challenge. Wade fishing is not for young children. Make sure you bring your wading staff.
There are other fishing options: floating this section with a guide is a good one. Or for easier wading try out Harriman State Park just a few miles up the road. We did, and we caught fish the next day. We were told that the best months for this section of Henry's Fork are June (after the melt-off is done), and July. August is a slower month. Caught nothing on hoppers, but caught fish with black terrestrials, and with droppers with midge and copper john's. There were lots of hoppers on the bank, but no fish rising to get them sighted.
Thanks again, Bill and Teresa, for your hospitality. We did offer to take Gemma with us, but you said "no." Hope to stay with you again someday.
